YHC took off early to get day 25 of the mile-a-day challenge knocked out. Apparently Splinter was lurking somewhere in the bushes ready to ambush as YHC forgot whether to turn on Lakewood or Sunset.  Pre-workout mumblechatter centered on William and Mary and if the schools’ athletics were ever good enough to have a true rival. Jon Stewart doesn’t like UpChuck’s line of questioning. Honeydo, chime in.  Solid work today Gents, fences are merely a suggestion.

  • Variety show

9 studs gathered this morning for what felt like the official start of fall at Hoedown. Here’s what went down.

Mosey a few steps to the side of the main lot to kick off: 15 x SSH, DMH, 10 x DQ then jog to West Drive Circle to kick off with a Dora. 100 x merkins, 200 x jump squats, 300 x LBC’s and the timer runs a loop. Wrap up and head back towards Tuckahoe Elementary School.

Pit stop on the no pets hill for 30 x decline WWII’s and some plank. Faceplant may or may not have stepped in a treat during this evolution.

Mosey to the slick paved gaga lot. Bear crawl 1/2 way while simultaneously organizing into ascending birthday order as a group. Lunge the rest of the way to the other side.

We found a grassy knoll near deep in the Tuckahoe complex and out came the music. Nobody’s favorite song, “Flower” by Moby, was queued and we brought Sally up and down for 3 minutes and 24 seconds (alternating plank & 6″). I think Bodos mentioned he was adding Flower to his playlist.

Next was some time on the wall: peoples chair, pass the coupon with donkey kicks (5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 10x) in between reps.

On to arrows in the main lot, 5x WWII with alternating bear crawl and lunge between each arrow. Hoedown regulars may still feel some disorientation from the mid-circuit starting point.

Music box came back out and Sting led us in 26 Roxanne burpees interspersed with some SSH. Head to the field for 2×20 PLT to wrap up the morning.

Numberama, Namerama, Announcements (Handshake noted a new field hockey group for M’s – check in with Handshake for details, Free to Bleed – close to full, see backblasts for details, Breaking Bread – one more slot open for 2021, Christmas night, looking for volunteers) and YHC took us out.

Thanks for hanging with a meandering and non traditional Q this morning! Until next time ~GP

  • 0% Chance of Rain

A helpfully divisible 12 converged at Hoedown this morning. The meteorologists said 0% chance of rain, which was confusing because all evidence pointed to the fact that it was in fact raining. After painfully grappling with this unhappy development, and making many comments about the reliability of local meteorologists, we accepted reality and proceeded with the Thang:

COP in the first Third Church lot: Deadman hang // Helicopters // Cherry Pickers // DQs // Imperial Walkers // Russian Soldiers // Crabcakes // LBCs// Inverted Crabcakes // Merkins // Elbow Plank // Pickle Pounders // SSHs // Burpees. Mosey to middle lot.

Triple Check with a Coupon. Round 1: P1 Squat Thrusters, P2 WW2s, P3 Run the loop // Round 2: P1 Manmaker Merkins, P2 Flutterkicks, P3 Run the loop // Round 3: P1 Block Burpees, P2 American Hammers, P3 run the loop. // Bonus Round: P1: Overhead Presses, P2: LBCs, P3: Run the loop.

Four Corners, Four Rounds. Round 1: 28 Squats in each corner // Round 2: 21 LBCs in each corner // Round 3: 14 Merkins in each corner // Round 1: 7 Burpees in each corner. Mosey back to school

Triple Check #2: Balls to the Walls // Mountain Climbers // Run the Loop

  • Four corner triangle

15 fine gentlemen gathered in the Tuckahoe gloom for a Hoedown to kick off the week. Snuff rolled in and off we went, mosey down to the bottom of Lindsey.

    COP: 15xSSH, DMH, 7xDQ, 10xFK, 10xAPD, 10xHRM

Much to Handshake’s surprise we Bernie Sandered all the way out of Lindsay Ct, gathering the six and moving to the main parking lot.

Four Corners: Cumulative 10x plank jacks, 20x MH’s, 30x Superman, 40x WWII, jog long legs, crab walk short legs. On the way to corner two we discovered the parking lot is a triangle…. audible corner 3 = Snuff’s ride.

Mosey to the makeshift Hoedown jerkin gym and partner up for 3 rounds of 8x jerkins. PAX waits in plank then 1x burpee & crawl bear up ramp to gather in the upper field for SSH’s. New partners for 2×25 PLT’s followed by two rounds of 10x pull ups across the field with the other partner doing big boy sit ups.

Return to the traditional Hoedown triple check location near the bus loop and gather in 5 groups of 3 – wall sit/donkey kicks (nobody chose donkey kicks, go figure), full crunches, and the timer executes Chaplain’s recent creation: jumping Hrpees (jumping burpees with a HRM) for about 30 yards to the side lot and jog back.

YHC called the morning a bit early as time was short. Mosey to the circle for Numberama, Namerama, Announcements (Field Day at Dogpile 9/18, Retreat 9/25) and YHC took us out.

Way to work today gents & thanks for hanging with me on some obscure exercise combinations. Here’s to a great week. Until next time, GP

  • Just Grab Hold

Twenty five well dressed gentlemen met in the parking lot of Hoedown for this year’s Labor Day Convergence. There was ample poking and prodding at PAX members pre-launch; one can only assume it was due to the extra hour and a half of sleep. Or it was the anticipation of free coffee and croissants. Regardless, 0700 clicked and off we went. Short mosey around the drop off loop then up to the blacktop sea for:

    The Thang
    SSH x20
Burpee x1 (Pattern detected by TYA, incorrectly)
    Russian Soldiers x10
    Burpee x2
    WWII x10
    Burpee x3
    Merkin x10
    Burpee x4
    Arm Circles x15
    Burpee x5
    Copperhead Squats x10
    Burpee x6
    LBC x20
    Burpee x7
    Monkey Humpers x10
    Burpee x8
    This or That x10
    Burpee x9
    That or This x10
    Burpee x10

Mosey up to the field for Dora. Partner up for 100 HRMs, 200 squats, 300 LBCs.

Saunter over to Bodo’s parking lot for traveling 4 corners. Corners were CDDs, Jump Squats, WWIIs, American Hammers.

Slither back to the drop off loop for triple check. People’s Chair, Plank, run around the loop.

Huddle up for a few minutes of Mary including the prescribed APD, box cutters, american hammers.

YHC called enough is enough and back to the parking lot for Numbers, names, FNG naming, coffee, and socializing.

Thanks to Marmaduke for taking us out.

Thanks to those that traveled far and to convene on relatively short notice. Great to see men from all over attend. Special thanks to Wilson for giving his sage wisdom for how to avoid human trafficking at 2am in the mountains of NC.

Welcome to FNGs Whitesnake and Fire Elf. YHC took the liberty of modifying Fire Elf’s name per suggestion post workout. Hope to see you guys out there soon.

Thanks to all and hope everyone had a great ending to summer.

  • Labor Day Convergence

    Labor Day Convergence

Monday Labor Day Convergence will be at Hoedown. It’s a small(ish) AO but there is ample parking! YHC will bring mobile coffeeteria for post workout enjoyment. 7AM start!

  • Averted the Inverted

Fourteen rose to the challenge, threw of the lure of the Fart Sack, and posted on a Q-less Monday. With conditions steady at sunny and 70, YHC called a Hot Potato (and then never let go). According to the teaching staff preparing for the new school year, some or all of the following may have happened:

Mosey around the bus loop and to the school wall for The COP:

    SSHs x~50
    Dead Man Hang (BYO cadence)
    LBCs
    IWs
    WWIIs
    HRMs
    Box Cutters

Mosey to the Parking Lot for Ascending / Descending Parking Lot Arrows

Perform one exercise at each arrow. Transport between arrows will vary.
Round 1 – 3 HRMs + bear crawl, Al Gore for The Six
Round 2 – 6 WWIIs + lunge, plank for The Six
Round 3 – 9 monkey humpers + walk, 6 inches for The Six
Round 4 – 6 four-count flutter kicks + any method except walking, reverse plank with one leg off the ground for The Six
    Round 5 – 3 burpees + dealer’s choice, APDs for The Six

Mosey back to the School Wall for a Triple Check:

    Run the loop
    BTTW
    WWIIs

Mary, plank jacks, and other stuff. Mosey BTTVSF.

Numbers, Names, Bodo’s Requested that YHC take us out.

    Announcements:
Let’s keep the following in mind and prayer (if you are so inclined) this week:
Pigskin has a friend who passed from cancer.
The people of New Orleans and other areas impacted by Ida.
The people of Afghanistan and the Americans and our allies who have supported them.
Folks who have or are recovering from COVID.
    Walter.
YHC feels like he missed one other request – apologies. Please let me know.

    NMS:

Great to see both grizzled and chiseled veterans out there today. Great to the see continued presence of some newer guys. Nice to have Bodo’s back from quarantine. At some point, watching Tik-Tok and playing video games had to end, my friend.

YHC did not plan a Q for today, but somehow “inverted keg stands” came to mind. Splinter politely pointed out that an “inverted” keg stand is just standing up. Exceptional point. The PAX averted the inverted part and did keg stands. And, while YHC has not known Pigskin for long, the man can do a ramrod straight, pretty close to vertical, keg stand.

Final note: the Q sheet for the rest of this week has the same number of PAX (6) signed up to Q as we have for Breaking Bread for the rest of the year (also 6). This is great for Breaking Bread. This is sub-optimal for the week. While it’s the first week of school for many of our 2.0s, let’s remember the F3 principles, one of which is that “workouts are led by a ROTATING Q who also participates in the workout.” If you Q regularly or basically every time you show up, now is a great time to encourage other guys to sign up. If you rarely Q, now is a great time to pick up the challenge of leading from time-to-time. Pigskin recently described this as “doing his part.” YHC likes that.

    UpChuck spits the bit.
