  • Lessons in counting side straddle hops

A lucky 13 showed this morning for the kick off to Thanksgiving week. For those of you keeping record, this was the first Q for YHC at Hoedown, YHC’s newest Monday home. To keep the PAX on their toes, YHC had some games in store. Thankfully the rain held of for this mornings festivities. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits at the get go.

To get things warmed up, stretching ensued. YHC is a firm believer in actually stretching now at the start. Deadman hang, right leg over left, Michael Phelps, elbow over head.

For those keeping count, we then did the first round of 21s. Everyone lost and 10 burpees ensued.

Then first game, called Tag. One person is it, stay in a tight group and mosey, the it person drops and does 3 merkins then sprints up to the group and tags someone new. They drop and do 3 merkins, and repeato. Catch is you cannot tag the person that tagged you last.

Mosey on down to the bottom of the hill. There partner up and do 20 bo-ya merkins. First partner then runs to the top of the hill and does 3 burpees and runs back down the hill. Second partner starts to head up hill doing bear crawl alternating with lunges each round. At the top both partners then do 20 more bo-ya merkins

Tag back on up to the parking lot for another round of 21s. Everyone lost again, more burpees.

In top lot, did an apple turnover with two layers in honor of thanksgiving week. Each white line in parking lot bear crawl alternating with crab walk, all the way to the top of the lot and back. Second layer, alternating each line, 3 merkins and 3 WW2s.

Mosey on to the top black top for another round of 21s. All lost again. More burpees.

Partner up for another game, this one is called rock, paper, scissors. Partner up, stand on opposite side of lot with your partner, run to the middle and do rock paper scissors. Loser does 5 burpees, winner holds plank. 10 rounds total – keep score. Lots of cheers and shouts and groans of bad luck during this game. It’s a favorite of YHC’s because it gets the competitive edge out in even the calmest of PAX members.

Next YHC believes there was another round of 21s, or maybe not.

Mosey on back to the circle for a quick triple check. First partner does wall sit, second partner does flutter kicks, and third partner runs the circle. Hitchhiker did a great job pushing YHC to sprint hard. Then back to the flag for the COT.

    Names, Numbers, and announcements

Don’t forget YHC’s Thanksgiving morning extravaganza at Mary, then Black Friday to Forest Hill Park for loops – FUN TIME, YHC highly recommends both events, two thumbs up.

YHC took it out with prayer.

  • Merkin Challenge

By my count, we did 188 merkins:

Warmup was 4 sets of 20 merkins (10 in cadence each set) for a total of 80 merkins

5 minutes of burpees: 50 merkins (10 burpees each minute)

Countdown from 10 to 1 of Derkins: 55 merkins

Belly touch 3 times: 3 merkins

Español palabra al día: ¡Arriba! Up!

By the way, I have the Q in 2 weeks. I plan to work 69 Burpees into the routine, and some other stuff.

Warmup: Corner Parking lot: 20 SSHs, 10 Man-maker Merkins, 15 knee-ups, stretching exercise

Warmup: Front of school: 20 IWs, 10 Diamond Merkins, 15 American Hammers, stretching exercise

Warmup: Corner Parking lot: 20 Russian Soldiers, 10 Merkins, 15 Crunchy Frogs, stretching exercise

Warmup: Upper Far Parking lot: 10 Don Quixote, 10 Merkins, 20 Dollies, stretching exercise

Wall Courtyard: 10 single count milkers (People’s chair), 10 BTTW Australian Mountain Climbers in cadence, 15 Donkey Kix OYO

Wall Courtyard: 10 single count Lalannes (People’s chair), 12 BTTW ToeTaps in cadence, 15 Donkey Kix OYO

Railing for Dips/Derkins: In cadence: 10 Dips, Hop over the railing, 10 Derkins, 9 Dips, hop over the railing 9 Derkins, etc.

  • MCF morning at Hoedown

13 Hoedown regulars and 1 out of towner from Raleigh found it easier to take on the Gloom with the time change. Majority of PAX were there 5 minutes early, even Handshake arrive at 5:25. With a call for 10 pre-beatdown merkins we took off to 3rd’s lot for COP:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Russian Soldiers, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey to office building for 4 corners: Accumulating style: 10 WWIIS, 20 Merkins, 30 Jump squats, 40 LBCs. Over to Coupon drop zone. Triple check of Scissor Sisters & run the loop. 20 Merkins after.

Mosey down to Triple check loop for proper one: Balls2Wall, Heels2heaven, & run loop. Once the lights were on in the parking lot head over for Bear-arrow loop. Bear crawl arrows loop with 8 merkins at each arrow. 88 in total.

Over to flag for few minutes of mary + 40 more merkins getting us to 238 count for the morning. COT and YHC took us out.

NMS: Several pax were anxious to see what the Honedyo Q would look like. Kubota wasn’t there to find out. Good to have Burt join us from F3 Raleigh. He’d never seen Scorpion Kicks before but afterwards said it was a keeper to take back to Raleigh. Good to have 14 out at Hoedown!

  • Candy Coma

Six warriors with bellies full of candy from the night before descended upon the empty parking lot to kick off the week. It was a hot potato kind of morning and Bodos kicked it off right. We did some stretching and moseying.

Then the Thang, Bodos did that and YHC cannot remember it all.

After that Bodos handed it off the potato to Garbage Plate. Garbage plate worked the PAX out hard, and then handed the potato off to Neutral for what may be have been his VQ potato. Neutral moseyed us on over to the blacktop and we did a 4 corners. We went back to the flag and circled up some quick merkins, then we hit the clock.

Bodos took us out with some thoughtful words.

    MOLESKIN

YHC took off early to get day 25 of the mile-a-day challenge knocked out. Apparently Splinter was lurking somewhere in the bushes ready to ambush as YHC forgot whether to turn on Lakewood or Sunset.  Pre-workout mumblechatter centered on William and Mary and if the schools’ athletics were ever good enough to have a true rival. Jon Stewart doesn’t like UpChuck’s line of questioning. Honeydo, chime in.  Solid work today Gents, fences are merely a suggestion.

  • Variety show

9 studs gathered this morning for what felt like the official start of fall at Hoedown. Here’s what went down.

Mosey a few steps to the side of the main lot to kick off: 15 x SSH, DMH, 10 x DQ then jog to West Drive Circle to kick off with a Dora. 100 x merkins, 200 x jump squats, 300 x LBC’s and the timer runs a loop. Wrap up and head back towards Tuckahoe Elementary School.

Pit stop on the no pets hill for 30 x decline WWII’s and some plank. Faceplant may or may not have stepped in a treat during this evolution.

Mosey to the slick paved gaga lot. Bear crawl 1/2 way while simultaneously organizing into ascending birthday order as a group. Lunge the rest of the way to the other side.

We found a grassy knoll near deep in the Tuckahoe complex and out came the music. Nobody’s favorite song, “Flower” by Moby, was queued and we brought Sally up and down for 3 minutes and 24 seconds (alternating plank & 6″). I think Bodos mentioned he was adding Flower to his playlist.

Next was some time on the wall: peoples chair, pass the coupon with donkey kicks (5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 10x) in between reps.

On to arrows in the main lot, 5x WWII with alternating bear crawl and lunge between each arrow. Hoedown regulars may still feel some disorientation from the mid-circuit starting point.

Music box came back out and Sting led us in 26 Roxanne burpees interspersed with some SSH. Head to the field for 2×20 PLT to wrap up the morning.

Numberama, Namerama, Announcements (Handshake noted a new field hockey group for M’s – check in with Handshake for details, Free to Bleed – close to full, see backblasts for details, Breaking Bread – one more slot open for 2021, Christmas night, looking for volunteers) and YHC took us out.

Thanks for hanging with a meandering and non traditional Q this morning! Until next time ~GP

  • 0% Chance of Rain

A helpfully divisible 12 converged at Hoedown this morning. The meteorologists said 0% chance of rain, which was confusing because all evidence pointed to the fact that it was in fact raining. After painfully grappling with this unhappy development, and making many comments about the reliability of local meteorologists, we accepted reality and proceeded with the Thang:

COP in the first Third Church lot: Deadman hang // Helicopters // Cherry Pickers // DQs // Imperial Walkers // Russian Soldiers // Crabcakes // LBCs// Inverted Crabcakes // Merkins // Elbow Plank // Pickle Pounders // SSHs // Burpees. Mosey to middle lot.

Triple Check with a Coupon. Round 1: P1 Squat Thrusters, P2 WW2s, P3 Run the loop // Round 2: P1 Manmaker Merkins, P2 Flutterkicks, P3 Run the loop // Round 3: P1 Block Burpees, P2 American Hammers, P3 run the loop. // Bonus Round: P1: Overhead Presses, P2: LBCs, P3: Run the loop.

Four Corners, Four Rounds. Round 1: 28 Squats in each corner // Round 2: 21 LBCs in each corner // Round 3: 14 Merkins in each corner // Round 1: 7 Burpees in each corner. Mosey back to school

Triple Check #2: Balls to the Walls // Mountain Climbers // Run the Loop

COT: Some cool down stretching. Numerama, Namerama, YHC took us out.
