  • Hoedown is Back!

Credit the Summer Tour, the allure of a colored pill, the desire to get back to normalcy fresh off a vacation, call it a fluke, however you slice it, Hoedown was back today baby.  Seventeen hit the mean streets of Tuckahoe VA to attack the day.

    MOLESKIN

At 0524 the numbers were strong as the PAX eagerly awaited what YHC had in store.  By 0530 seventeen in all were ready to do the thang.  Lots of mumblechatter around Hitch’s Saturday night Karaoke Q.  Sounds like a heck of a time.  YHC isn’t much of a singer, but with the right amount of lubrication could maybe belt out some Sweet Child O Mine, Blaze of Glory, or perhaps Regulate by Warren G.  YHC expects only Bone Thugs, Corned Beef, and maybe Wilson share his taste in music.  Comment with your go-to song.  Just curious.  Make it a great one.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

Home Run Derby – July 27th (See Preblast – 0530 Tuckahoe Little League – park in front of Rico’s Restaurant at John Rolfe and Ridgefield)

    Ultimate Frisbee – Heartbreak tomorrow

Not mentioned in COT but YHC could really use prayer

  • Shooters at Hoedown

10 mighty not so old folks stumbled upon Hoedown on a fine humid Monday. The workout went like this:

COP around the large mulch pile: DQs, CPs, derkins off the mulch pile, LBCs and arm circles. Mosey to Bodos’ primary parking lot.

Elevens with merkins and WWIIs. I mistakenly ended with 10 merkins and 10 WWIIs. I never thought of myself as an overachiever. Mosey to blacktop and walkway to blacktop.

Next exercise is similar to the Gridiron special last Saturday. We did a series of arm, leg and ab exercises. It was noted that the box jumps were not challenging. Sorry about that. The pacer on the first set had to dribble the ball across the blacktop and make a layup. The second set required dribbling across the black top and attempting 3 free throws. Two PAX made two free throws (67% is much better than Shaq). They are the “shooters”; the rest including yours truly not so much.

In between the two sets, we did wall sits passing the coupon back and forth.

After the two sets, we did a triple check with donkey kicks, step up or box jumps on the slightly flimsy benches and a run around the horseshoe.

Closed in prayer. Announcements: 7/17 – party at Hitchhikers’ house. debate with whether we can bring Ms and the family. Hopefully we will get details on that. 7/20 – Doozy’s 2.0 Q, 7/27 – home run derby at HBR, 7/31 – Squirrel’s game – let Bone Thugs know ASAP if you are going so he can figure out the tickets. I think there still is time to register on the summer tour. Ask Gypsy for details.

I enjoyed leading this group today. Do great things men!

  • Vinny’s Baseball Returns

Four men of energy and action threw out the lure of the Fart Sack to complete the latest edition of Hoedown. Conditions were sunny and 70. According to Vinny, here is more or less what happened:

Mosey to the front of the school for the COP:

    SSHs
    Dead Man Hang
    IWs
    APDs
    Oblique Crunches (L/R)
    LBCs
    HRMs
    Hello Dolly

Mosey to the Teacher’s Parking Lot

Parking space shuffle: 3 exercises, 3 reps each

    Flutter Kicks (4-count)
    WWIIs
    Rosalitas

    Roughly 10 parking spaces

Mosey to the Blacktop for a Prostitute (always come back to the same corner)

Round 1: 10 HRMs, then back to home for 1 burpee
Round 2: 10 HRMs, then to second for 20 WWIIs, then back to first for 10 HRMs, then home for 1 burpee (and so forth).
    Round 3: 10 HRMs, 20 WWIIs, 30 Flutter Kicks (4-count), 20 WWIIs, 10 HRMs, and the burpee
Round 4: same as Round 3, adding 40 Monkey Humpers to the loop.

A prostitute in the mid-summer drives a big sweat and usually means one thing: Vinny’s Baseball is up next. Started by our Main Man Rob Sievers, Vinny’s Baseball (copyright used with permission) is wiffle ball (that copyright is not used with permission) batting practice. 10 swings. Cue the song,”Glory Days.” Enjoy the morning.

BTTF for 1 minute of American Hammers.

Numbers, names, YHC took us out with a message about free people living from free countries (USA, Germany, South Korea) being thankful for representative government in an environment that allows everyone to live according to their own conscience. F3RVA is a great embodiment of this ethos: no one tells you what to do, and when you want to build something positive, lots of guys will be there to offer guidance and volunteer their contributions. Boom.

    Announcements:

Hitchhiker is hosting a backyard party on July 17, 5:30 pm. BYO beverages, finger food provided.

YHC is considering hosting a Richmond History Trivia Contest. Ms welcome to participate. Hitch has his money on Emily Seoung, his wife. She sounds like a ringer.

    NMS:

Day after July 4 is usually light on attendance as guys are on vacation or recovering. Today was a great day for a lighter workout and some Vinny Baseball. Vinny started this over at The Batteau his first year (among several events started by Vinny, including Vinny’s Field Day – look for information on Field Day shortly). Solid F3RVA tradition.

YHC reached out to several guys to borrow a wiffle bat. Who knew that Bodo’s a) has a wiffle bat, and b) has an annual July 4 weekend trip to Asheville compete in a family wiffle ball game? Sweet. But, no love borrowing his bat. So, YHC was off to Dick’s Sporting Goods to invest in a knock off.

Results were mixed. Blue Moon says nobody plays baseball in Germany. Hutton struggles without his glasses, but can smack a softball style pitch. Hitchhiker literally knocked the plastic cover off one ball. YHC needs to hit the batting cages more often. Overall, good showing for four PAX who never practice. Solid morning, fellas.

    UpChuck spits the bit.

  • Ninja Warrior Reprise

This week being the occasion of YHC’s 44th birthday, the 2nd annual F3 Ninja Warrior course was in order. After conducting a quick COP including 44 SSHs, we moseyed through the course so YHC could explain the various obstacles and exercises.

After returning to the start of the course, we divided into pairs. The first pair, DTH and Garbage Plate, took off and the race began. The second pair started after waiting one minute, then the third pair after another minute, and so on, while the rest of the waiting pax conducted COP.

    Course was as follows:

    • Run to the handicap ramp, perform under/overs on the ropes suspended across the railings. At the final ramp, bear crawl to the top.
    • Mosey up to the field to the exercise equipment. Shimmy across the parallel bars with arms in locked position // Perform 3 pull ups on each of the escalating pull up bars // Monkey swing across the horizontal ladder // Run across the spring bench // Climb up the chain link wall and down over the other side // Monkey swing across the rings using only one color of ring.
    • Mosey to the swing set. Perform 25 swerkins on the swing set (Get in plank position with feet rest on a swing, Pull legs in to a reverse crunch position, extend legs back out and then do a merkin).
    • Mosey to the back southern corner of the TES school property. Run up the large mulch pile, climb the ladder or scale and jump over the chain link fence. Run around the back of the office building and then across Forest Ave. into the middle Third Church parking lot.
    • In the center, grab a coupon. Run to the first corner of the lot and perform 25 squats with the block // Run to the next corner, 25 swings // Run to third corner, 25 curls // run to next corner, 25 incline merkins on the block // run back to center and deposit the coupon back in the pile
    • Bear crawl through the center retainer ditch and out the other side. Once through, run to the back parking lot of Third Church.
    • Mosey to the playground. Jump, leap, or climb over the playground fence using the green bench. Climb up to the top of the slide then slide down face first on the nobbly slide, at the bottom, keep feet on slide and perform 25 Derkins.
    • Mosey to the fire escape. Run up and down the fire escape 3 times, performing 5 jump squats at the top each time.
    • Mosey to side parking lot. Burpee Suicides. Start on the curb, run to the first parking lot line, perform 1 burpee, run back to curb. Run to second line, perform 2 burpees, run back to the curb. All the way up to 8.
    • After 8th burpee round, run back to touch the curb, then run back across Forest Ave., around the front of the school, and back to the tree. Scale the rope ladder and touch the limb to stop the timer.

First finishers performed COP while waiting for the pax. Once pax was in, we finished with some ab exercises.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: TClaps to Snuff for winning fastest time! We’re pretty sure DTH and GP also had a a top time but they seem to not be able to add and subtract accurately. Fudd won the prize for most questions- Wait, do we just keep running? Welcome Kung Fu Panda, who showed up on a really weird day. Thanks to Malpractice’s son Josiah for some tips on the course, who is heading to Vegas this summer for the junior Ninja Warrior World Championship! Thanks guys for humoring me in this stupid tradition.

  • HOELLIH 11s

The humidity was high and so were the numbers at this hill repeat post Father’s Day beatdown. The Pax brought it today as we got out of the fartsack to embrace a Roger Roger Q. This beatdown started with a nice slow mosey down Lindsay Ct for some Warmarama:

    25 X side straddle hops

    10 x dead man hang

    10 x Don Q

    10 x Merkins

    25 x LBCs

    10 x 2 leg circles

Gomer Pyle gave a good laugh as I stumbled through my cadence on those Merkins. Roger Roger is still working on that cadence.

    Recover

Mosey across the creek to a humid park like setting for COP # 1:

    Apple Turnover with a Twist:

Normally done on a football field we used the park perfectly placed in the neighborhood to Bear Crawl 25% distance with 25 merkins

    Crab Walk 50% distance 50 WW2s

Bear Crawl 75% distance 75 LBCs

Crab Walk 100% distance 100 Squats

The mumble chatter continued as we were all just about warmed up by now!

    Recover:

Mosey back across the creek to the circle on Lindsay Ct for COP #2:

    Notice the name HoE-LLIHH 11s

Did he really say 11s on the Hill. YHC called for one of the longest 11s seen in F3RVA. As the mumble chatter slowed to a minimum. Some were mentioning it was the longest 11 they had ever done.Today was a brutal beatdown encompassing 3.5 miles of running and 11s on hill repeat.

1 Merkin run to the top of the Lindsay up hill 10 plank jacks

    2 then 9

    Until 2 minutes left.

    Mosey back to the flag!

Thanks for the Q gents and hanging in there with me to allow me the pleasure after a great Father’s Day!

    Announcements:

    Tuesday happy hour

Breaking bread need a july sign up

    Patch challenge in July

Puppy pile second saturday in July

  • Hot Hot Potato!

My apology for not posting BB before now!

I believe that it was Wojo’s Q. Anyway, Last Call started us off to mosey to the Third Church parking lot, followed by COP as follows: 10x arm circle, 10x SSH, 10x Helicopter, 10x Deadman hang, 10x Merkins, 10x American Hammers, 10x Flutter Kicks.

Exercise#1: 11s. Starts with 10 merkins on one side of the parking lot and run to the other and do 1 jump squart and 9 and 2 and so on.

Roger Roger volunteered to lead the PAX and moseyed to the school’s playground, followed by the second exercise as follows: started off one side of the playground toward the other side of the playground with taking turns with bear crawl and 5 merkins and switch over to crab walk and 5 merkins.

Shiplap took the baton and moseyed to the school parking lot, followed by the third exercise as follows: triple check with one partner running around the driveway, another partner doing LBC, and the other doing people’s chair.

Hitchhiker led the PAX to the bottom of Lindsey, followed by partner workout as follows: one partner running to the top of the hill and back and the other partner bear crawling, walking lunges, and burpee jump.

Hitchhiker led the PAX back to the parking lot for clock merkins on the hill and finished the workout with ring of fire with five merkins each PAX.

    Fireman Ed took us out.

  • Tuckahoe Sweatfest

9 grizzled studs started the week off right for a moist beatdown at the Tuckahoe Elementary Sauna. This is what was rumored to have occurred according to the fully customized golf cart that provided a quick breeze.

Mosey down to Lindsay Ct for COP at the cul de sac. Warm Up included SSH’s, DQ’s, Dead Man Hang, One Legged Merkins, Plank Jack Merkins, Freddie Mercury’s along with some mild Broga to get the relaxation started. Everyone sweating, let’s start…

    THE THANG:

    – Love Hill: Partner up for the trip back up to Lindsay. Partner Runs to the top, returns and switches. Exercises included Bear Crawls, Lunges, Broad Jump Burpees. AG for the 6

    – Triple Check: Mosey down to West Drive Circle to check on Pucker’s house. Find 2 friends – 1 runner (counter clockwise around Circle), Flutterkicks & Jump Squats. Complete 3 rounds, one extra circle for Faceplant. So much fun, lets do it again.

    – Triple Check #2: 2 runner (clockwise around Circle), American Hammers, Carolina Dry Docks. Broga Stretching for the 6.

    – Parking Lot Merkins: Mosey up to teachers parking lot. Bearcrawl Merkins. Bearcrawl across the parking lot with 1 merkin at every line. Short circle in the grass for some Broga and calm the heart down. Return trip with Bearcrawl back across parking lot, this time adding 1 additional merkin at each line.

    – BTTF for minute of plank. Numbers, Names Announcements, YHC took us out.

NMS: Thick morning reduced the mumble chatter. Humidity had everyone sweating at warm up and did not stop. Handshake requested some Broga early on, and YHC happily obliged. PAX had not ventured over to Puckers abode in a while. Much traffic in this area to include a 6 seater golf cart that flew buy. Pucker and Offshore have their models on order to avoid the congested parking at Kuba Kuba Dos. Some light stretching throughout made for an enjoyable morning. Handshake offered grillmaster tips and recipes throughout, because nothing beats a humid morning like thinking of cooking over a warm grill.

Thank you for allowing me the honor to lead this morning. Always great to start the week with good friends.

Humpday Happy Hour at Hardywood West Creek sometime in June.

  • Triple Triple

13 of Richmond’s finest, plus one latecomer, gathered in the gloom of Hoedown to start the week right. Here’s what happened:

COP on the field (apparently a first): DQs // Cherry Pickers // Copperhead Squats // Imperial Walkers // SSHs

Triple Check #1: P1- People’s Chair with Air Press // P2: Planks // P3: Run to the bars, 5 Pulls ups, Run back. Mosey to Blacktop

4 Corners: Corner 1- 5 Burpees // Corner 2- 5 Burpees, 15 Merkins // Corner 3- 5 Burpees, 15 Merkins, 25 Squats // Corner 4: 5 Burpees, 15 Merkins, 25 Squats, 40 Monkey Humpers. Mosey to bottom of Lindsay Court, cross the creek, into the hidden park

Triple Check #2: P1 – Dips // P2 – American Hammers // P3: Bernie Sanders to the bottom of the grassy hill, crawl bear up the hill, run back.

Catch me if you can: P1 Bernie Sanders up Lindsay Court, P2 performs 3 burpees and then runs to catch P1, switch.

Triple Check #3 at the busloop: P1: Balls to the Wall // P2: WW2s // P3: Run the loop

COP: Plank, Merkin Ring of Fire // Flutter Kick IC // 1 min of silence- with the words, “Love, Surrender, Trust”

Moleskin: The first truly warm morning. After a 90+ degree weekend the blacktop was nice and radiant. Good to enjoy the park at the bottom of Lindsay in the daylight. Great mumble chatter. Somehow we managed to fit in a lot in 45 min. Thanks dudes for being one of the most consistent things in my life!

  • Looking forward to some Ronald

A prime 11 found RVAs darkest AO to have some sunlight in the COP.

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Imperial Walkers, Reverse Crunches, Merkins, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey over to 3rd lot:

THE THANG: 11s of HRMs and V-Ups. Over to secret coupon garden, a few seconds of Boat & Cano then Partner up: 3 Rounds of Thrusters while other runs the lot. 60 Block presses. 4 corners with blocks lunging between of 25 Squats, Swings, and Curls4theGirls.

Drop coupons and head down to Triple check loop. Triple was Donkey Kicks, WWIIs and the loop. Finish with “Bearrow the Loop” aka 5 merkins at each arrow the main lot with bear crawl in between. Back to flag with an impromptu BOM-COT. YHC took us out.

Announcements: Memorial Day at Tredegar downtown 7:00. Be there if you’re in town. Breaking Bread needs summer Qs.

NMS: Nice numbers, great weather, and ample light this morning. YHC had toyed with a tax day theme but didn’t feel right without our resident accountant EF Hutton out there with us. Apparently Thrusters have been added to YHC’s favorite things list to go alongside Donkey Kicks, Bear Crawl, and Scorpion Kicks.

The Ball of Man COT felt good to try again, sorry if that bothered anyone. Bodos has forgotten how bad we smell. BB title is a reference to good round of mumblechatter afterward. Shiplap’s presence at First Watch has been formally requested so he might win a OSOTW award.

  • Time Enough for a Quadruple Check

15 Strong arrived on time (mostly) to get their week off to a strong start. Here’s how it went down.

COP: Dead Man’s Hang, Don Quixotes x10, Imperial Walkers x20, SSH x20 and some LBCs x20.

Mosey to the church parking lot where the coupons are stored. Each pax grab a coupon (we ended up 3 short but made do). Mosey to business park lot next door and pair up. Each partner lunges L & R then performs an exercise and repeats until meeting partner in the middle. Do 2 Booyahs Merkins then return same way you came. First round was Block Burpee, Second round was 3 WWIIs with block, third round was 3 Block curls then finish with the Block Burpee again. Enough with the coupons, returned them to their resting place.

Mosey to Church parking lot for a variant of 4 corners with a partner. Partner 1 runs while Partner 2 does an exercise. After both have run, run together to next corner, etc. First corner was Carolina Dry Docks, second corner was LBCs, third corner was copperhead squats and fourth was SSH. Pax finished quickly so we repeated this circuit twice.

Mosey to lot behind church for triple check. Wall sits, flutter kicks and Bernie Sanders out to end of lot then run back. We ended up doing 4 rounds thus our backblast title. YHC wanted to know what time it was (not having a watch) and was told “just after 6”. Plenty of time to add a fourth round which elicited some grumbling from the pax (“wrong answer – it should have been 6:12”).

Mosey back to flag for some LBCs and APBs to wrap up. Numberama, Namerama. Good start to the week. Thanks for letting me lead!
