  • Who doesn’t love a good skinny dip?!

15 SOJ HIM’s including one FNG (who was EH’d over the weekend by GTE Cadre Flight Nurse) shook off the weekend soreness at NoToll with a slightly slower paced beatdown, as follows:

    The THANG:

    WARMERAMA:

    • Mosey onto the BBall Court and circle up
    • Welcome & Disclaimer
    • Variable IC Reps to get the muscles warm top to bottom, lots of groaning
    • The number 18 was utilized to honor the 18 RVA PAX who completed GTE #47

    Q-SCHOOL – Part 1:

    • Brief explanation and demonstration of how to call cadence, then FNG Will Myers was invited to Q some reps – which he did admirably (we didn’t know at the time he just got out of the Marine Corps 2 years ago)
    • AAR (After Action Report) was provided by the PAX

Mosey out to Pay the Toll at the Bridge – questionably dead copperhead in the road – decided to just keep moseying – No Toll today…

    BUDDY LADDER:

    • Partner up in front of the bleachers, complete x10 Buddy WWII’s, P1 runs across field and back, P2 remains for Bleachers Step-ups, then partners complete x9 WWII’s, P2 runs & P1 remains, etc. down to 1.
    • ABC’s for the SIX
    • Circle up in Plank and review the F3 Mission, Credo, and 5CP’s
    • Mosey over to the pavilion

    Q-SCHOOL – Part 2:

    • DTH demonstrates calling x18 squats IC
    • BROMANCE invited to take the Q, and guided to lead the PAX in Merkins then in Arm Circles
    • AAR provided – he’s a natural and will do his VQ very soon!

    CATCH ME IF YOU CAN:

    • Partner up
    • P1 lunges, P2 does x5 Mericans then bear crawls to catch ip and switch
    • Circumnavigate the pavilion

    1/2 CAPTAIN THOR:

    • 1:4 of WWII and Am.Hammers
    • Reps up to 5:20

    Mosey BTTF for COT:

    • Counterama # 15
    • Namerama
    • Announcerama (see Below)
    • YHC took the PAX out in Prayer

NMS:  There were a good number of our GTE graduates in attendance today, all of us walking and moving a bit stiffly, but the reps got everyone limbered up OK. A big welcome to SKINNY DIP, who was EH’d by the GTE Cadre over the weekend. He’s a couple years out of the Marine Corps and spoke candidly that he hadn’t felt this brotherly camaraderie since being with his USMC brothers, and had been missing sorely. He had a great story of being a competitive swimmer and forgetting to tie his suit before leaping into a college pool in front of thousands of spectators – and having to get out of the pool totally naked, on film, etc. Well, we are honored to have you in our PAX and you did an AWESOME job on the QSchool challenge. Just do all the guys a favor and keep your suit on! 🙂 Bromance equally shined on calling cadence and plans to do his VQ in the next few weeks! SOJ is on FIRE and we’re not anywhere close to slowing down. LET’S GO!!! ~DTH

    Announcements (SEE SLACK!)

    • Friday PM Machismo hosting a BYO firepit debrief for all the GTE guys to share war stories
    • Next Tuesday (5/14) all of SOJ invited to DTH’s house for a 2nd F patio party

    Prayer Requests:

    • Scram’s mom in hospice
    • Chaplain’s shoulder healing
    • NTB alone weekends this month
    • Doozy’s daughter travel safety
  • Is Something Happening This Weekend?

I’m not sure if you’re aware, but it’s GTE week. YHC noticed yesterday that the Q-sheet was open so the spot was claimed with the intention of having a lower-RPM beatdown with this weekend in mind. Nonetheless, today’s NTB beatdown had all the signature trademarks: confusion, over-exertion of one muscle group (holy quads), an epic playlist, and a couple of good laughs.

0530 hot start with five suicides on the basketball courts, followed by a classic warmarama circle, all to the catchy beat of Epic Sax Guy. Several comments were made about dentist office waiting rooms and elevators, but deep down the PAX knows they’re growing to love it.

    COP #1: Blackjack Quadriceps

    • Shuttle back and forth from baseline to baseline for ascending squats and descending lunges totaling up to 21! Like 7s or 11s but worse.

COP #2: Grand Slam Four Corners

    • The idea was decent, the explanation needed improvement. We got it on the second rendition. Each corner is the same movement, but the box gets larger with each round. In future beatdowns the travelling portion between corners can be more challenging which would make the whole circuit better. Today we mosied around.
    • Corner 1: (5) merkins
    • Corner 2: (5) WWIIs
    • Corner 3: (5) Cruncy Frogs
    • Corner 4: (5) Flutter Kicks
    • We went through the 16 corners a second time, performing one burpee at each corner.

Finished with (10) Eskimo Merkins and then returned back to the flag for numbers, names, announcements, and prayer requests.

All PAX are invited to the Friday evening GrowRuck rally on Friday night! Come out for a unique 2nd-F event with the region.

  • If a Bear crawls in the woods, does a Pax hear the gains?

1st time as Q. Started with warmups: Side Straddle Hops, Arm Circles, Ukranian Soldiers, Don Quixotes, Imperial Walkers, Ballerina Toe Squats, Oblique LBCs.

    COP #1: (Basketball Court)

DORA. 2 PAX Partnered up, reps of 100 merkins, 200 LBCs and 300 squats. Partner did the reps, Partner 2 bear crawled along one side of the basketball court, lunged on the second side and sprinted back on the third leg.

COP #2: Bataan Death Crawl ( Playground)

19 of us in a single file line bear crawling around the playground circle. Guy in the back of line did 5 burpees, tapped the guy in front of him then ran to the front of the line.

COP #3: 4 Corners (Soccer field)

4 corners at the soccer field. Corner 1 – hand release merkins, Corner 2- squats, Corner 3- world war 2s, Corner 4 burpees. Went around three times, increasing reps by 7 (7, 14, 21)

Announcerama: GrowRuck coming up next weekend. Pumped!

    Thank you all!

  • 2 Years in the Making

14 bootcampers and 2 ruckers came out to help YHC celebrate 2 years of F3. Here’s how it went down.

Mosey to the parking lot near the fields for COP

    SSH

    Arm Circles

    Ukranian soliders

    Opus

    WWII’s

Copper head squats, all in cadence.

Mosey to the closest field and partner up.

Start with 10 partner leg tosses, run to mid field and do 10 booyah merkins, run to the opposite of the field and do 10 partner WWII’s. run back to the starting point and repeat until down to 1.

Mosey to the parking lot and do 5 corners, starting and ending at the same corner

    5,10,15,20,25 Hand release merkins

    10,20,30,40,50, WWII’s

Mosey back to the flag with about a minute to spare and do a ring of fire with each pax doing 5 merkins while the other pax hold a plank.

Numbers, Names, YHC took us out.

    Prayers for Florence’s mother-in-law.

Rucking at The Forge tomorrow morning.

YHC signed up for this Q prior to knowing about the Sunday morning ruck. Not sure if YHC could have led the workout if not for Broga first. We got in some good work today and GTE Pax got in some good training for the physical fitness test. YHC appreciates everyone coming out today, and the entire F3RVA. Its been a great 2 years and looking forward to many more. YHC ate up a lot of time on the partner workout without having to give a lot of direction. Per DK, that’s a veteran move. I guess I’m official now!

    House Party

  • Ruck Games

SIXTEEN southside studs assembled at NoToll to answer the NTB bell. YHC sent out a pre-blast that with GTE-47 on the horizon we would use our rucksacks as coupons for practice. Most got the memo, a few did not, and a handful of others were co-opted to grab their rucks out of their vehicles against their will. One brave FNG joined the F3 ranks and performed exceptionally well. Welcome SNIP!

WARMARAMA – Circle up at the basketball court and drop the rucks for IC reps of the following:

    • SSH / DQs / Jazzercise (w/ toe taps) / Ukranian Soldiers / DMH / Alabama Prom Dates / etc.
    • Our warmup was enhancedby the repetitive, but very catchy, Epic Sax Guy groove on the bluetooth speaker. Snuff would not have approved. State Farm would have loved it. Most in the PAX were not amused…. anyways…. time to ruck up and line up along the baseline.

    COP 1 – 11s – Jump Squats and Merkins w/ Rucks

    • To most everyone’s delight the bluetooth speaker died in the early stages of our cross-court 11s and the smooth sax was replaced with the huffing and puffing of weighted movements.
    • Mosey to the soccer field pavilion and partner up!

COP 2 – Mother Rucking Dora

    • 100 Lt. Dan’s / 200 Hand-Release Merkins / 300 Diamond Sit-Ups
    • Timer carries the ruck(s) farmer-style the width of the soccer field and back.
      • Mad respect to the PAX who carried two rucks that length for multiple rounds!
    • After the PAX made it through the 100 Lt. Dans, YHC recognized that the remaining rep counts were very ambitious when combined with the heavy coupon carry, so we modified to 100 HRMs and 100 diamond sit-ups, which left us just enough time for the finale.

    COP 3 – Ruck Games

    • Partners line up along the touchline (learned that from Ted Lasso) facing one another, making two rows of 8. Your teammate on the Dora just became your competitor in this epic showdown. Team NTB had five rucks while Team Last Call had six rucks, because leading has it privileges. Pile all of the rucks on one end of the line. On YHC’s “go”, we passed our rucks down the line to the other side. The last team to finish performed a five-merkin penalty for losing. YHC is happy to report that merkins were served out on either side of the line. 7 rounds were performed in this order:
      • Standard Pass
      • OH Press
      • Squat
      • Thruster
      • Plank Position – Left Arm Pull Through
      • Plank Position – Right Arm Pull Through
      • x2 Squats
    • Recover, rucks on, and mosey back to the flag for COT.

Numbers / Names / Announcements / Prayer Requests

    • Growruck #47 – There is still time to sign up. You will add value to everyone’s experience by being there! See DTH or Rosie for questions regarding the event.
    • Pray for Wildcat and the birth of their new child today!
    • Pray for health and resilience among the PAX as we support our own as well as our families battling serious illness.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead today! I really enjoyed this workout and I look forward to similar creative themes in the future. Special shout-out to Last Call for crushing the 50lb ruck he unknowingly partnered with on the Dora.

  • Heist’s last year of h8.

Wooweeeee! LFG! What a day guys! Thanks everyone for coming and helping start out my last year of hate out right!

Mosey to the Basketball court. 1985 playlist blaring.

    F3 Speech/Disclaimers. Warmorama: 39 SSH, 15 CHS, deadman hang (C/L/R), 20 LBCs, 20 Susan Summer (L/R), 15x flutters, 15x APD, 10x Merkins, Wilson’s wife and then “push into Fudd’s wife.” That was akward…

COP 1: Quick set of 11s on the court with LBCs and squats. Theme song may have been this

COP 2: Mosey towards the fields, but a little pit stop on the bridge for descending/rotating sets of incline/decline merkins. 10/9/8/7, etc.

COP 3: Beast (entire field). Switched to some better 80s hairband music, including this gem. Exercises were:

    1. LBCs
    2. Merkins
    3. SSH
    4. Ball dippers
    5. Arm circles
    6. Last but not beast (ha) burpees

Indian run back to the flag (not many ran up front, but it was just to kill time anyway).

COP 4: Quick eye of the storm. 1 burpee in middle. 10 reps in each corner doing SSH, drydocks, merkins and something else (I forgot).

Stretched for a few minutes to a little Journey. BTW, the song faded out right at 6:15, I was so proud (*pats self on back*)

    Announcements:

    1. DTH wants you to come out and get sloppy with some GTE training tomorrow led by Machismo.
    2. Heist wants you to sign up for the GTE #47 event.
    3. Oyster – Sign up for breaking bread (it’s on the Q sheet). It’s easy. Breaking Bread supports medical respite here in Richmond.
    4. Oyster’s not paying for lunch, but come join us this Friday at Rusty Taco in Westchester.

    Prayers:

    1. Pray for DTH’s father-in-law who has lung cancer
    2. Pray for Handshake’s relative, Charlotte (9-years old), who has bone cancner
    3. Pray for NTB and his wife as they hope to welcome a new child into the world
    4. Pray for our brother Wildcat, he is living with Stage IV lung cancer. He has his quarterly scans today to check on the prognosis. Special prayers as his wife is also pregnant with #3.
    5. Pray for our brother Benny. For those that don’t remember, Benny came out strong last spring, but has fallen out of the Gloom on account of his new work schedule. His wife recently lost a child…he lost his mother a few weeks ago as well.
    6. Pray for healing for Rosie’s knee. I didn’t do it! Seriously though, Rosie jacked up his knee at Dog Pile in sort of a freak accident during a triple check at dog pile (stepped on his shoe lace and twisted his knee). He goes to orthopedic specialist today for an opinion. Let’s hope nothing serious, so he can get back out in the gloom soon.

YHC took us out in prayer.

Last thoughts: Many many thanks for coming out today. All the birthday love was great and I enjoyed having some fun!

P.S.: 1985 was a remarkable year with many interesting events and cultural moments. Here are some fun facts from 1985:

    1. Live Aid Concerts: One of the most significant music events in history, the Live Aid concerts, were held in July 1985. These simultaneous concerts in London and Philadelphia raised funds for famine relief in Ethiopia and featured performances by some of the biggest names in music, including Queen, U2, and Madonna.
    2. The Debut of Classic Movies: 1985 saw the release of several iconic films, including “Back to the Future,” “The Breakfast Club,” and “The Goonies.” These movies have become cultural touchstones and continue to be beloved by audiences around the world.
    3. New Coke: In a controversial move, Coca-Cola introduced New Coke in April 1985, changing the formula of its flagship soda. The public reaction was overwhelmingly negative, leading the company to bring back the original formula as “Coca-Cola Classic” just three months later.
    4. The Discovery of the Titanic Wreckage: The wreck of the RMS Titanic, which sank in 1912, was finally discovered in September 1985 at the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean by a joint American-French expedition led by Robert Ballard.
    5. Super Mario Bros. Released: Nintendo released the iconic video game “Super Mario Bros.” in September 1985, featuring the plumber brothers, Mario and Luigi. This game became one of the best-selling video games of all time and a cornerstone of video game culture.
    6. Windows 1.0: Microsoft released its first version of Windows, Windows 1.0, in November 1985. This graphical user interface marked the beginning of Microsoft’s dominance in the personal computer operating system market.

NMS:  In the words of our Australian-born Irishman FNG, nicknamed DANNY BOY, “Twas a grand time!” Heavy on the abbs and light on the back and shoulders is what the good Doctor prescribed for himself after one too many recent rucks with coupons. Well done NTB headlocking Danny Boy into the fold, and also TClaps to DEALER for bringing out FNG #2 nicknamed BROMANCE. Seriously, ya’ll should have heard the love sonnet delivered by Dealer describing their lifetime of closer than blood brotherhood. Finally, also want to give a shout-out to SNIPER, posting from downrange for a few days – waaaayyy too cool of a nickname, but YHC got the impression he could easily kill you if you insulted him, so welcome SNIPER! He’ll be at SOT tomorrow and TIMBERWOLF Thursday. As always gentlemen, it gives me great joy to lead you into the harder things – appreciate ya’ll showing up! 💪❤️👊 ~DTH

    Announcements (SEE SLACK!)

    Prayer Requests:

    • Family and friends with cancer and other difficulties – prayers for healing and for the Lord to lead us in serving them in their time of need
  • Hit by a car!!!!?

1 Early riser, 9 on time and 1 in the middle of the COP showed up to see what a No Toll Doozy Q looked like. According to the keepers of the “stay off the Field” signs this is what happened.

Mosey to the bridge to pay the No Toll, Toll 20 Dips and 20 Incline Merkins

Collect all the lights and frisbees mosey back to the bridge to pay the Toll again 20 dips 20 incline merkins

Mosey to the basketball court and circle up for some man killers and finish with 10 Burpees OYO

BTTF Numbers / Names Last Call took us out

NMS: Mr Roper started todays mumble chatter off by telling us that he has been out since January because he was hit by a car “?????”. The fact that nobody knew or has said anything if they did makes me question how our accountability is going in RVA. If there is a brother out there that you haven’t seen in a while, YOU (Me) need to reach out and find out how they are doing.

  • Puddles, Rucks, Old Glory and a Ghost?

An unafraid 14 showed up for a mudbath mixed with an Old Glory. 8 doubled-down with rucksacks and 1 turned into a ghost. Just another great morning at NoToll.

Old Glory made its quarterly appearance and most knew what was coming. Scram did not, and I’m guessing Bullseye did not. Bullseye disappeared after lap 1 – he may have tweaked something or he may have drowned in one of the corners…TBD. No, seriously, I hope Bullseye is fine and just decided to save himself for tomorrow. Throw up a flare and let us know you are ok, brother.

The rest of us were water-logged before finishing the first mile. Then the clock was set for 20 minutes of fun. Burpee-corner was especially wet but we make it work.

Major respect to those who did it with rucksacks and especially those (NTB and Dealer and others?) who ran it with the rucksacks. STRONG!

A few minutes of stretching and planks to finish us off and then numbers, names, and a WET COT with prayers for all those suffering illness or injury and for safety for NTB’s brother who is in Israel for work and some travel.

Lots of Rucking options out there. Sign up for GTE if you will be around.

New Crossings AO tomorrow evening – see Slack for details

    Be good today!

    No More Gumbo for you.

  • Brothers born for Adversity

9 HIMs low on vigor gathered round for a motivational chat led by Machismo.  According to the disturbed car sleeper, this is what happened.

    The THANG:

WARMERAMA:  25 fast straddle hops,  10s of Ukrainian soldiers, ESWs, DQs, Plank jacks, Groiners, rosalita dips, 10 No Cheat Merkins.

COP #1: Toll step up 11s crossing the bridge of no toll 10 step ups followed by 1 dip a the opposite log.

Mosey to the dumpsters for Racoon Rattle triple check.

COP #2:  Triple check with donkey gongs on the dumpster with Machism adding a little too much cow bell (hence the woken car sleeper)  Runner traverses parking lot and returns to the dumpster to find a Cindy-Swinger and no it wasn’t NTB pretending to be a woman in his Subaru Forester.

    • Mosey to the pavilion

    COP #3: Eye of Absolution.

    • Missing DTH and wanting to add an eight count exercise the pax started with a 10 count in cadence precursor and then divided into 4 corners to do 25 of various exercises before returning to perform 5 Absolutions.  (Groiner, to elbow plank, to chillcut plank jack, back to plank and 1)  Corners were No Cheat Merkin, SSH, Copperhead Squats, and WWII
    • Mosey BTTF and pay a 25 count dip toll on the way.

COP #4: Circle up for Mary preceded by some arm circles.    In a rotating fashion guys led various plank position exercises that were supposed to hit abs but apparently the abbs were sufficiently smoked to throw a few merkins in there.

    COT:
    Counterama # Nueve
Announcerama:  Ruck leaving from forge tomorrow at 5:30.  Oyster might be paying for something soon???
Prayers for O.C.s family friend Sophia who at 18 her life was cut short in Georgia in a high speed car accident.  Hug your kids.  Prayers for DKs friend suffering through loss.

    Naked Moleskin:

9 Invigorated HIMs left the absolved pavement of No Toll ready to lead their communities. YHC was freed to lead nearly 2 years ago and is grateful for this Band of Brothers whose silhouettes he recognizes in the darkness.   Provers 17:17 says “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” 17 A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need.

Through all our mumble chatter and off count exercises YHC is grateful for the pax and the opportunity to lead.  If you’re struggling let a brother know.
