Starbucks – Winterfield Crossing

  • Off is on again

2 runners for a cold OTB run.  After a couple week hiatus for OTB with various vacations and races YHC and Honeymoon hit the roads for 6 easy miles.  Thoughts of cutting it short were scrapped when we realized if we did the coffeeteria would still be closed.  Route was through downtown Midlothian, through Charter Colony and around the JTCC campus.  Finish just in time to hit the warmth of (Sub)Urban Farmhouse.

Good run, good times, have a great day.

  • Off Track Betting at Off the Books

Three cup horses declared eligible away from the false energy of the Fartsack and birthed the latest version of the free handicap claiming race that is Off the Books.  At 6, Wilson, Honeymoon, and the shipper that is YHC posted at the Urban Farmhouse (Midlo) gate and, at the sound of the bell, were off.

First post after one furlong left into the Woolridge chute, then 9 furlongs to Midlothian Turnpike (left), 9 furlongs to Charter Colony (left), and 8 furlongs to Woolridge (left).  Down the backstretch for 5 furlongs to the Urban Farmhouse and a slow trot for 3 furlongs in the UF stable area to round out 32 furlongs.

4 milers do one lap, 8 milers two laps, 12 milers three laps, and 20 milers 5 laps.

    Naked Moleskin

Bug Boy YHC thanks the company (Wilson and Honeymoon) for hosting today’s stakes.  YHC had a bit of a bog spavin prior to the morning slow trot, likely a hangover from back-to-back stakes races at Dog Pile and the CBOS-based Twin Team.  There was a brief consideration of a post-time scratch, but having made a HC at ET’s, today’s visit to Midlo Downs proved well worth the extra saunter.  Even with a modest mist, the track had a good bottom and, notwithstanding some shadows, it is generally a flat race through the first few turns.

Honeymoon proved the lead pony today, circling back to round up YHC and fellow maiden Wilson.   Even with the darkness, headlamps help each rider through The Gloom.  No sooner had Wilson told Honeymoon to make a run down the backstretch than either the sloppy conditions or a speedy cut took Wilson down.  Wilson’s a mudder, so he rubbed some furosimide on it and galloped to the finish.  Well done for a stakes horse who hates stakes.

The post-race festivities were moved off-site today as today’s race turned into a sprint and UF had not yet opened for the day.  The stallions scouted 3 locations before finding a groom with the right mix of water, caffeine, and coffee to satisfy three moderately stretched colts.  YHC thanks Wilson for covering the fees at DD.  A fine cup o’ joe and good conversation ensued.  Any riders who have not seen extreme dune buggy racing on a muddy track, see Honeymoon.  If you need your stables organized, Wilson will do it and pay his own way.  There’s no surer bet in racing.

  • Lone Southsider

1 runner posted at OTB to get in a few Sunday morning miles.  After waiting around an extra minute or two hoping for a LIFO YHC hit the streeets around Midlothian.  A short loop was initially planned but an exploration of local neighborhoods pushed the mileage closer to 6.

YHC considered not posting a BB but in the end, wanted the Big Data credit.

  • Skoob eht Ffo

Two posted at Urban Farmhouse and decided to do the normal loop in reverse.  Somehow there was more uphill to this run that the original way.  Maybe that’s not the case but the hill towards the end was unexpected.  YHC does not remember going down that one on the way out.  Great to run with Honeymoon on the first real run since BRR, felt good to get some miles in.   What’s the next race?

Quick coffeeteria after the run before heading out to enjoy a beautiful Sunday.  Off the books is still on for anyone that wants to join us early on a Sunday.

  • Party of One: The Sequel

YHC withdrew himself from the confines of bed for a Sunday stroll. Similar as previous runs – Rosie route  – past the three schools of Midlothian. 5.8 miles total. No chatter this morning, no prayer or F3 as YHC has a date with IKEA in NOVA. See you all in the gloom this week.

  • Back to School

2 strong runners discussed Wilson’s fartsacking tendency on Sundays before heading out for a sunny and 70 run around Midlothian.

The run was down Charter Colony to Tomahawk Creek Middle, run around the school to check out the new AO.  Lots to do there, it’ll be a good one.  Back down Charter Colony with an added loop around John Tyler Community College.  Back to Urban Farmhouse with a loop around the parking lot to get to an even 7 miles.

Good coffeteria today with Honeymoon.  Looking forward to football season and some oysters this fall.

  • And then there were two

Two lonely PAX arrived at the predetermined place and time expecting a pack of wolves. Two expected riders were AWOL. The fart sack obviously won this morning.  I have three bikers EH’d and hope we can build our numbers to support this AO.

We consoled ourselves with a longer and faster than usual ride. We executed the route below and (thanks to Chainsaw’s motor) we maintained an 18+ MPH pace which is good for me on a 25 mile ride.

  • OTB in all “PINK”

4 total for OTB Sunday as Pink was in the air “Pink Power Triathlon”

Out we went for 6 miles give or take as we made sure we got in before the Triathlon kicked off at 7am.  Chosen route was the normal loop though the mines and down Midlow as we all agreed the air was a little thick.  I hope BRR weather is nice and cool so we can all get 15 secs or so off our times!

    COT, Name-a-rama, Number-rama

Good work by all and it was nice to see the numbers growing as BRR is right around the corner!  Always good to have LabRat and Phonics along for a run as there is no lack of conversation!  Wilson, nice work pulling through today staying strong and consistent as always.

  • Werewolves, clowns and Corvettes!

Good morning F3 RVA! Wilson has returned from a very lazy and relaxing vacation and is ready to put down the Col Beer and start the BRR training. While the New Market Crew was discussing the plans for the South Side expansion – exploration has begun to find the perfect AO! Honeymoon wanted to know who was joining him for the Off the Books run. Ocho had planned a ride with another buddy and Sparky, Tatu & Marmaduke clearly said they were out. Then he looked at me………..Yeah I’m in (Skinny Pirates were talking) and we had a plan. Wilson was to drive and we would run on Sunday.

Here is how it went down. As YHC was getting in the car I heard coyotes or wild dogs (I called them Werewolves) and I started to wonder if the BRR had packs of wild dogs or maybe even werewolves……..Honeymoon assured me we would only likely run into the South Side fox and nothing else.

As the clock struck 6, nobody else showed up. Honeymoon stated the Singer was’t showing up because running sucks and doing it alone REALLY sucks. Sorry you had that happen last week man! I am sure the pre-tweet stating the trail run starting at 6:30 was a huge draw and they had a great showing!

We ran and got in between 5.3 & 5.5 miles. Honeymoon circled back for YHC twice. It was a beautiful morning to wear long sleeves and we were fortunate no clowns or werewolves attacked us. You may be wondering why this video? I often think of Corvette’s! Go figure, but today I coupled it with the roads of the BRR and thought how EPIC that would be to drive. I bumped into this video and well….at 4:40 turn it UP!

Enjoy and have a great day!

  • Party of One

YHC didn’t look at the Q sheet, just assumed a few SOJ folks would be at AO. Hot potato Q for one it was. Couldn’t pass up the chance to run in 60 degree weather after the past month.

    The thang:

Perform the Rosie route again, add in Midlothian Elementary School to complete a drive-by of all three Midlothian schools for the full 6 miles.

Moleskin – no words were said during this workout or post, it would seem weird wouldn’t it? See you folks in the gloom!
