  • Swirly Squared

Twenty-Seven Runners, including two Swirlys, and a canine covered various distances this morning by foot, pedal, or paw.  Here is what transpired, more or less.

    The Route

East on Grove to Thompson and turn left and then a right on Hanover.  6s do a lap around the Mumford block first before beginning down Grove.  4s take a right on Shield, 5s on Plum, and 6s on Linden with all returning on Grove.

    The Moleskin

Great turn out today for excellent running weather to jump start those New Year’s resolutions.  This also provides a great opportunity to EH runners into our group.  Come for the run and stay for the boot camp.

Welcome our Raleigh based Swirly who joined us this morning.  Hopefully we will see you again soon.

    Announcement:

    • Ollivander is Q for the January Puppy Pile later this month.  A date has not been set.

    Always Be Tapering,

    Lockjaw

  • No cotton shirt, heck no shirt at all…

The rain held off just enough for 23 Weather Men and 1 Canine to pound the pavement and start the Christmas Season weekend off with a stellar beginning. Usually the Q initiates go time at 0530 but the PAX was eager to move so off the PAX went at 05:29:40 secs. Prior to the early start, YHC awaited the question from the PAX as to “Who has the Q?” or “Where are we running?” But Saab looks at YHC, “Well, Flatline are we to guess?”  The Route=out and back:

Commonwealth to Monument. Monument to Shephard and back=4 miles. Monument to Strawberry St and back=5 miles. Monument down to General Lee, circle, and back=6 miles.   A few PAX members were rucking and a few walking. Lug, slightly tardy, did what he needed to do! And Sippy Cup-lone gear man this am!

Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Announcements: Shakedown found 2015 RTD article on F3 and complimented all PAX members in the article are still posting. NO DOUBT!! Fudd stated the obvious, it’s raining. YHC took the clue…

    YHC took us out!

NMS: Evidently Swirly missed the weather report for this morning and arrived with a long sleeve shirt on to run. That shirt did not stand a chance!! The sun was not out, but those guns were!!

BT, Shakedown, Handshake, Pullout-that first mile, boy, we took off! Little faster than YHC wanted but it worked. Shakedown, YHC always love the early morning cadence with you!!

Vinny-congrats on your in-laws celebrating 50 yr anniversary, as well as your parents. That bar is set high!! Vinny will actually miss a work out tomorrow morning!

Handshake, respect the posting considering your fluid intake last night! Respect!

Gentlemen, much respect to all this  morning for our jog down Monument! Only those who post understand. Continue to inspire and drive the power of hope! Merry Christmas and Blessings to the entire PAX. Loud and Proud.

    CAVU,

    Flatline

  • Saab’s Endoscopy

Fourteen road warriors (and lots of us believe there were bikers, but no sign of them at the end) pulled on their running galoshes and hit the mostly ice-free streets for a Friday morning Run At Mary Munford.  Chit-chat at the water cooler suggests this might be what happened:

    Routes:
    East on Grove…
    …4 milers, right on Shields.
    …5 milers, right on Vine.
…6 milers, right on Park, then right on Laurel.

…all runners, right on Floyd, then right on Nansemond, and left on Grove.  Straight on ’til dawn.

Number-a-ma, Name-a-rama, MARV took us out (sponsored by the VCU Sports Properties)

    Announcements:
What better way to spend Wednesday evening, December 19, than mixing uppers with downers?

Let’s all put our prayers in today for Gumbo’s daughter, who is having an MRI for concussion like symptoms.

Last note…please also remember today Kubota’s grandfather, who passed away at 95.  My prayers will be with Kubota and his family today.  Please join me.

    NMS:
Today’s route was designed with a few goals in mind…provide a 4, 5, or 6 mile run…have it be on dry-ish roads with very limited ice…have some state-sponsored lighting.  Triple check!

Thanks to Wedding Singer for letting me gripe.  MUCH appreciated.  Hope your grandmother has a wonderful Christmas.

Good to have Knox join us again.  Also, happy to hear Saab is digesting things well.

  • A Day of Infamy

Fifteen by foot and zero by pedal showed for a cold run this morning.  YHC called a new route and off we went.

    The Route

Sixteen Runners and an undisclosed number of bikers, who didn’t return, set out for the first true winter feeling run.

    The Route

East on Grove and turn left on Hamilton, Left on Westwood (turns into Malvern), Right on Patterson.

4s take a left on Westmoreland to the VSF.

5s take a left on Lexington to Grove to the VSF.

6s take a left on Seneca to Grove to the VSF.

    Saab took us out.

    The Moleskin

It was good running with my pack today.   Good pace and conversation makes the miles drift by.  I heard the 6s were on fire today.

    Always Be Tapering,

  • Guns out at a November RAMM

It wasn’t “Sun’s out, Guns out!” but more like “It’s November and it’s 70 degrees at 5:30 in the morning.  Let’s bang out some merkins pre-run and then go shirtless for the run.”

22 strong on foot or on wheels attacked the Punisher route this fine morning.  At least the runners ran the Punisher route, the Gears did something else…..

    Routes:

4’s – Grove to a left on Malvern.  Cross Broad where name changes to Westwood and continue to top of Acca Yard rail yard bridge and then back-track back to the Shovel Flag.

5’s – 4 mile route but continue on Westwood to CATALPA.  That’s right, CATALPA!  Turn around and back-track to flag.

6’s – 5 mile route but continue on to Laburnum and hang a left and go to Holton Elementary and then back-track to flag.

Numberama, Namearama, Announcements and YHC took us out!

    Announcements:

Merkin Challenge has begun!  “Bang ’em out!”

Ghost Flag will be at Dogpile tomorrow.  Most FNG’s by Nano-region wins the flag.  See Hardywood to get a definition of who qualifies as an FNG.

Splinter announced that he owed an apology to YHC.  Thanks, Splinter!  YHC’s Southampton County, VA accent makes it difficult to pronounce some of the street names of RVA, for example “Grove” and “Broad”

TYA has the annual Thanksgiving Day 45MOM Q on 11/22/18!  Go Berkeley Plantation, beat Plymouth Rock!

    NMS:

The temperature in the gloom can be very tricky.  One day it’s too cool, another day, it’s too warm, other days it’s just right and then other days, you just don’t care because you fartsack.  This morning was definitely too warm for November, but you got to fight it and continue on.  YHC decided to attack the 5 mile route this morning for a RAMM first and struggled (combination of tasting spicy dinner from last night and remnants of col beer still from Halloween night) but came in at 6:15 and 30 seconds.  Close one!  Vinny upped his game and ran a good, clean and fast 5 miles to come in ahead of the time limit.  The rest of the 5 milers were smoking it, led by Swirly, Gumbo and BT.  Le Tigre posted to his first F3 run and attacked the 4 mile route (great job and keep coming back out!)  Hoser (formerly Mountie) received his name change and posted for the second day in a row to start off his F3 career (also great job and keep coming back out!!)  No one got lost which may be a Kubota running Q first!  Prior to 5:30, several of the PAX “banged out” some Merkin Challenge merkins.  Great job guys!  After the run, Swirly and maybe others continued to bang them out.  YHC is expecting to see another “500” in Swirly’s challenge box for today.

Something that YHC was thinking about this morning but forgot to mention during the COT was this:  Phonics’ daughter, Rachel (forgot her F3 name??) won the Region 5 cross country championship yesterday and her team (Atlee) won as a team, as well!  Phonics, this is awesome and we know you are proud.  We also know that your other children run cross county, too and that you are proud of all of them!  Great work as a Father and supporter of your children.  You need to get Rachel out to a RAMM run so she can smoke the 6 milers!  Here is the link to the article in the RTD on Rachel:

It was an honor to lead this morning and say the word “CATALPA” several times!

    Have a great day all!

    Kubota

    keep posting!

  • Fan Halloween Run

F3RVA’s showed a 21 runner/biker salute to the day.  The route was a nice tour of the Fan and all it’s Halloween glory.

4s take a left on Monument to Commonwealth and back to the VSF.

5s/6s hang a right on Hanover.  5s turn left on Meadow to Monument, west on Monument to Commonwealth to the VSF.  6s keep on Hanover until it merges with Park.  Keep going east Harrison and Harrison to Franklin/Monument to Commonwealth and home.

    Announcements:

  • World Turned Upside Down

22 hearty souls launched for a variety of two-wheeled or two-footed exercises…temps were sunny and 70.

Routes were varied…some walkers, some 4 milers, some 5 milers, some pseudo-6 milers, and some Kubotas.

Walkers…generally out and back on Grove.

4 Milers…Grove to Maple to Park to Granite to Grove and back to the flag.

5 Milers…Grove to Maple to Bremo to Crestwood to Libbie to Grove and back to the flag.

6 Milers…Grove to (hey, Saab, turn on Maple…, hey, Saab, turn on Maple…)…oh, just run on Grove.

Kubota run…show up early, run hard, do more.

Number-a-ma (false start), Number-a-ma again, Name-a-ram-a, announcements, and Swiper took us out with a metaphor about long-term personal growth.  Or, trees.  Or, planting.  YHC thanks him.

    Announcements:

    CSAUP tomorrow at 7.

Bring warm coats on Saturdays.  Marmaduke collecting for the homeless.

    PuppyPile October 27

Bear Creek 10 Miler.  December 2 at Bear Creek State Park.

    NMS:

F3 history was made today, the 237th anniversary of Cornwallis British forces surrendering at Yorktown. When Cornwallis surrendered, the American military band played “The World Turned Upside Down.”

Today, YHC saw something new….an un-injured Swirly walking. In fact, lots of walkers today.  Looks like the PAX will be ready to start the CSAUP on full-rest.  Good luck to all who are running/walking/riding tomorrow.  7:00 a.m. at Shelter 1.  Place your bets on FanDuel.com.

    UpChuck spits the bit.

  • Honking At The Tree Won’t Move It

17 Hurricane Warriors decided to hit the streets post storm.  Temperature was great for running.  Just perfect.

    The Route

North on Commonwealth and east on Monument.  4s turn on Boulevard, 5s on Meadow, and 6s on Harrison heading back south to Grove.  West bound on Grove to the VSF.

    YHC took us out.

    The Moleskin

With rumors of a final Fudd sighting before he heads West, YHC called a Fudd friendly route with only a couple of turns.  Only slightly more complicated than an out and back.  Unfortunately, there was no Fudd.  Saab and YHC took a tour down Fudd’s road on the way to the AO this am to dodge a downed tree and his car was there, but no Fudd today.  Interesting.

The backblast title originates from a motorist who came upon a tree down across Grove in the front of the AO and came to a complete stop and then hit the horn during COT.  Eventually he yielded to the tree and made a prudent detour.

Our thoughts go out to those who did not weather the storm without issue.  Let the Pax know if you need assistance in any way.

    Announcements:

    • CSAUP – 10/20 – See TYA
    • Puppy Pile – 10/27 – See Marv

    Time to Taper,
