Spring is in the air, and so is the pollen. YHC explained the routes, but it really sunk in for several Pax based on proximity to gentleman club landmarks on route.

    The Routes

East on Grove and left on Malvern to Monument and hang a right heading east.

4s turn right on Boulevard, right on Grove back to the VSF.

5s turn left on Boulevard, left on Moore, left on Rosneath, and a right on Grove back to the VSF.

6s keep going on Monument to Meadow and hang a left. Meadow changes names to Hermitage and then take a left on Leigh. Leigh turns into Moore and pick up the 5s route from there.

    Upchuck took us out.

    The Moleskin

Running with Upchuck and Shakedown is awesome. Not only do they keep a fine pace, but the conversation is always in healthy debate. So healthy today, that YHC got his first bunch-buggy hit on Upchuck. We are now 25-1 overall due to his preoccupation on conversation. Never a shortage of bugs in the van.

We launched the search party for Saab who was a lone runner on the 6 route. Seems he missed the turn on Leigh and kept heading up to Northside. Wrong turn or perhaps he was intending to visit Punisher? Regardless, he course corrected at the Boulevard and made his way back to the AO.

Announcements: Early risers trail run tomorrow at 4am. The start and end will be at dog pile. No ruck, but bring a light.

    Time to Taper,

    Lockjaw

  • Come As You Are

A 21 Pax salute to welcome premier running and riding weather. The routes took us to new territory today.

    The Route

    Head west on Grove.

4s take a right on Libbie, a left on Patterson, a left on Maple, and a left on Grove back to the VSF.

5s and 6s continued west down Grove and turn right on the access road in front of the churches. Exit out briefly on Three Chopt and take a right on Pepper. Pepper crosses Patterson and veer right onto Dustin Drive. Take Dustin to the end a Maple and hang a right.

At Maple and Patterson, 6s have an extra loop so they take a right on Patterson and complete the Pepper/Dustin/Maple circuit again.

5s and 6s cross Patterson heading south on Maple, left on Grove to the VSF.

    YHC took us out.

    The Moleskin

YHC has been pondering the 25th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death as a two-fold reminder. Be aware of the plights of others and extend a hand to help them. Everyone is going through something, but together is better than alone in my opinion. Second, 25 years goes by quickly. Make the most of it everyday for the next 25.

    Time to Taper,

    Lockjaw

  • Can’t Lose Either Way

What happens when YHC’s two biggest basketball rivals (Duke vs VT) square up in the Sweet Sixteen? It’s a no lose situation and neither were today’s routes.

The Grace’N’Allen (Grayson Allen) route was called with a detour down (Justin) Robinson St.

    The Routes:

East on Grove and a left on Thompson. Go past Monument and take a right on Grace.

4’s take a right on Robinson and a right on Grove back to the VSF.

5’s take a right on Allen and a right on Grove back to the VSF.

6’s take a right on Allen and a right on Grove. Then they take a left on Robinson and sight see around the north bank of Fountain Lake picking up the Boulevard to Grove and back to the VSF.

    No Tools took us out.

It was great seeing some new faces as well as some who have not posted in a while. Running with Labrat is always entertaining. Thanks for keeping me going!

23 canvassed the City of Richmond on foot and wheel for a classic Lockjaw Haiku route:

    Run to U of R

    Traverse only two fingers

    No Jelly Needed

  • Extended Bootleg Track

25 Strong showed no concern for the Ides of March and decided to Run, Ruck, and Bike in the gloom.

The Carillon route was called and off we went. The ruckers enjoyed carrying a small body bag through the streets attracting various looks from the early morning crowd.

Congratulations goes to Bootleg who completed an Ultra this past weekend with snow no less. Well done sir! It was great to hear the details of your adventure.

    Announcements:

The GrowRuck team is looking for volunteer shadows to assist for a few hours throughout the event. See Shakedown or Honey Do if you want to drink beer and watch them workout.

Too much time tapering, time to run.

  • Ruckin, Runnin, and Ridin

22 ruckers, runners and bikers posted on a lovely Friday Morning.

    The Thang and NMM

The ruckers launched at 5:15 and headed to hillcrest and other unknown parts and back to MM

Runner headed west on Grove, left on Oak, Left on Cary and right on Hillcrest. Then the runners did as many loops as they could in the allotted time. Then back the same way we came.

Biker (pullout) headed out on his own for a jaunt downtown.

Hillcrest is dark. I knew this already, but you really get the full affect when there are a bunch of runners on the road. Pucker, Swiper, Singer and I reversed direction on each loop. We could see the runners that had headlamps on, but when a non headlamped runner came along, it was almost a collision every time.

Reverse shout out to Lab Rat. According to the Mr. Rat’s rules, none of the ruckers should have gotten big data credit for the workout today. When YHC launches early and/or runs extra on Sundays, Lab Rat does not include YHC on the PAX list. Despite those rules, I have included all the ruckers, including Lab Rat, in the PAX list.

There is a movement about to get Phonix to run a marathon and qualify for the Boston Marathon. He definitely has the speed, he just needs a little help on the nutrition and hydration front. It also sound like he needs a little help with nerves as every time he tries to run that far he ends up with the dry heaves. Ouch.

Oyster is consistently late to Friday runs and then does his own route. He is always there for the finish, but he sneaks in somewhere after 530. Welcome to Jekyll from the Fort this morning. Always good to have out of town guests

Good luck to Bootleg this weekend. He has put the work in, now its time to reap the rewards and punch his first ultra ticket.

Earth day 5k coming up sometime in April, for a detailed marketing pitch, see Wedding singer

  • Fits Like a Glove

Spring weather before a wintry mix. Yep, its Richmond. Twenty of RVA’s finest came out to cover miles in this fine city.

    The Route

West on Grove and turn right on the access road in front of the churches. Take a right on St Christophers and a right on Patterson heading east. 4s turn on Westmoreland, 5s on Malvern, and 6s on Nansemond with all taking Grove back to the VSF.

    Marv took us out.

    The Moleskin

Despite the warm weather, you gotta keep those digits warm. Most of the pre-run chatter was TYA (of all people) commenting on Saab’s running attire. To each their own.

It was great running with Vinny and Upchuck today, though unusually quiet, as they pushed the miles.

Announcements:  Hardywood’s 2.0’s book event this evening. 5:30 @ Crossroads.

    Time to Taper,

    Lockjaw

  • Somebody Ate Their Wheaties

A solid nineteen came out to taste some early spring weather before winter encloses again.

    The Routes
North on Westmoreland and take a right on Monument. 4s turn on the Boulevard, 5s turn on Allison and then over to Shields, and 6s turn on Harrison. All routes take their respective roads back to Grove and return to the VSF.

    The Moleskin
TYA was on fire pre-run this morning. Jokes, comebacks, one-liners – all were a part of his warm up this morning. Nothing got past him.

Post workout chatter has to go to Labrat and Offshore. One has stories of mice and monkeys and the other is in a quest for fluids to catalog.

    Announcements:

    • Offshore knows of a group that is collecting XL gently used sweatpants. Not new, but gently used. Not any other size, but Extra Large. See Offshore for details.

    Time to Taper,

  • “I was looking for Antrim with a U”

21 pax and evidently a pair of ghost bikers met the day with ferocity this morning.  Serpentine route maps were handed out and met with groans….but in the end most seemed to like the route.  Shakedown even sent me a pic of the route on a map because he said it looked cool!

Nobody got lost, but Singer joked that he got lost because he was looking for Antrim with a “u”…obviously my prowess as as cool looking route designer is not matched by spelling skills!  So much for laminating these maps! Back to the drawing board…

No ice or barking raccoons this morning….which was a first on the Serpentine run.  Handshake was barking a bit and laying waste to runners in his tailwind, but that’s par for the course around here.

Here’s to hoping everybody had an awesome day!

    Lab Rat apologizes…

  • Old school with Weight

20 running RAMM veterans and 3 RAMM Gear guys arrived for some ambulatory activity.

    THE THANG

The old Grove Ave tour 4 milers turn at 195, 5 Milers turn at Roseneath, 6 milers turn at Boulevard to Three Chopt and Back to the Flag.

    Moleskin

As YHC crossed Cary this morning, Big Blue was already preached in the standard location surveying the AO. Swirly gave me the birthday greeting as YHC climbed into the truck. Vinny was not far behind acknowledging the tripping of another decade.

With the good fortune of another injury, YHC was able to see everyone while running or being passed by everyone today( Off Shore at least three times) Lug Nut also coming off an injury and Swirly with the optional Weight Vest(if he put in 20 more lbs he would be at my weight) kept pace with YHC. Thanks for Dragging me along guys!
