  • Training, maintenance, or fun?

YHC arrived this morning with intel that Kubota and Gumbo were starting early to get some extra credit for the half marathon. Swirly liked the idea so much he joined them-YHC thinks! Flag planted with Upchuck saying good morning……33 super troopers posted, runners and bikers, to make sure Friday started off in the most completely awesome way.

    The route……Westbound on Grove. R on Henri. R on St. Christopher’s. R onto Patterson…

4 milers…..Patterson to Libbie and take a R. L on Grove and back to the flag.

5 milers….Patterson to Hamilton and take a R. R on Grove and back to the flag.

6 milers….Patterson to Nansemond and take a R. R on Grove and back to the flag.

RAMM GEARS…they biked somewhere and back in time!!

Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Announcements: CSAUP, Oct 20-see TYA and lots of loops around Forest Hill Park.  Swiper is leading a running group with Healing Place after Dogpile-approx 3 miles tomorrow. Marmaduke is collecting winter clothes-coats, jackets, sweaters, outerwear.

    YHC took us out!

NMS–Gumbo, Kubota, Swirly=7.5 miles….nice! Off Shore, thank you for the partnership and pacing me and pushing me. YHC was feeling the effects of Spider Run Tuesday.

Sippy Cup, McFly, and Faceplant-great to finish the last leg and you men had more left in the tank!!

Super Troopers, help that one person today who needs it!! Only those who post understand.

    Loud and Proud.

  • Ryder Cup Route

24 men eager to get stronger and log some miles on foot or on wheels posted in the glorious Fall gloom of Mary Munford Elementary School.  A flag was planted.  Instructions were given, including printed turn by turn details for some.  And, boom its 0530, time to get going…

    https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/copy/2258923801/

The route was as set forth in yesterday’s Pre-Blast — a beautiful persimmon driver or fairway wood in honor of today’s start of the Ryder Cup.

The five milers set a strong pace, led by Swirly, BT, Flatline and Spit.  They kept the sixers in view for quite a while, but ultimately the sixers pulled away in Windsor Farms led all the way by Saab and his hound-like sense of direction this morning.  Thanks to Swiper for speeding up and catching the aforementioned 5-mile crew that was ahead of us as they made an errant turn — not sure if they were just eager to get to the Inner Circle first or just looking for some extra credit.

Kubota did his own thing and pounded out 5 milers.

4 men (I think?) chose gears — TYA, Profit, Circle K and Pullout (Add in the comments if I missed anyone).   From the sounds of it, the route was enjoyed by all.

COT, number-rama, name-a-rama and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • Puppy Pile tomorrow after Dogpile
    • Hot Potato Q at Dogpile – Kubota has the reigns to begin.
    • Bring coats, jackets, sweaters, etc. (kids, mens, womans) to Dogpile or Gridiron and Marmaduke will pick them up and get them to shelters.
    • Healing Place 8K Training — see Swiper or his pre-blast for info.
    • CSAUP coming up 10/20 – see TYA for details
    • The funeral for LabRat’s father is today – keep him and his family in his thoughts and prayers.  Let’s show our F3 support by filling up the coffers of RAISE with donations in his memory – https://www.raisewithus.org/jeff-kenney-memorial-page.html

Have a great day.  Tell your family you Love them.  And, of course, GO USA!

    No More Gumbo For You!

  • Twenty’s company, but thirty is a crowd!

The MOST pax ever witnessed by my eyes in the Mary Munford parking lot converged today for a Friday morning!  Included in the crowd were 1 FNG, a visitor from Asheville, and 1 fairly new guy who’s first day was yesterday.

Nothing fancy today, just the solid Reverse Carillon route.  There was a bit of discussion over the four mile route, which Lug Nut was able to put to rest.

Phonics and Saab dropped back and ran with the 5 mile pack this morning…Saab on the mend and Phonics bouncing Convergence ideas off of Lab Rat and Shakedown.  Fudd was busy chasing down Swirly…but I dont think that he ever caught him.  The 5 milers were pretty well spread out, but it looked like the 6 milers ran in a pack for the most part.

Bikers did their biking thing, their ranks a little bigger today with the addition of TYA and Circle K.

Great job to all that posted, and welcome to FNG Timeout!  He is another addition from the Woodfin family, and got named Timeout because he had a basketball jersey on, and the sports fans in the pax thought it was funny.  Good enough for me!

    Lab Rat apologizes…

  • Hills of Empathy

As a show of solidarity with our Pax who are kicking off the BRR this morning, YHC called the Snake River route.  Snake River lives up to it’s name with a bit of bite in the hills.

We headed west on Grove to Granite and a left on Granite to Cary.  Dogleg left and take a right heading down Tempsford.

    • 4s take the left fork and retrace their steps back to Grove to the AO.
    • 5s do the left and right forks and then Granite to Patterson to Westmoreland to the AO.
    • 6s do the left and right forks twice each (!) and then Granite to Patterson to Westmoreland to the AO.

    Shotgun took us out.

Not much mumble chatter this morning as the Pax had places to go and kids to get to school.  I think it was a cover up to mask the desire to get out of this morning’s humidity.

    • Announcements – Since Marv pulled out early, his buddies in the Pax volunteered him for the September Dogpile Q on September 29.  Hopefully he can be there.

Good luck and safe running to our brothers making their way to Asheville.  Enjoy the journey.

    No time to taper,

    Lockjaw

  • Where’s the Track?

Twenty Four gentlemen ran decided to start this Friday off right by biking or running.  Before 5:30 AM, several PAX members preparing for the BRR took for additional miles.  At 5:30 AM, the professional and amateur bikers left.  This is what the rest of the running PAX did.

    The Thang

Using Brocode, run east on Grove and take a left onto Antrim.  Run to Thomas Jefferson High School.  Pair up with a running equal and then alternate running 400s for about 24 minutes.  PAX members ran 7 to 9 400s.  Some PAX members did a slow lap around the track and then all ran back to Mary Munford for about 4 miles.

COT – Numberama, Name-o-rama, Announcements, Wheelie took us out.

    NMS

A few weeks ago, YHC participated in the Richmond Road Runner’s Club summer track series at UR.  For one of the event, YHC and Betsy Ross (2.0) ran the 8000 relay in which each teammate alternated running 400s.  After completing this, YHC thought this would be a great RAMM workout including those preparing for the BRR.  After the mile warm-up run to TJ this morning, YHC gave the instruction to step onto the track.  As he stepped onto the track, he had trouble identifying where the track was because it was dark and the grass had overtaken the track.  After some discussion, Splinter pointed out a one foot path around the track.  Once this was discovered, off we went.  Little mumblechatter occurred while waiting for the partner to complete his run.  As we finished the 400s, most PAX members took a slow walk back to Antrim and then ran back to Mary Munford.  Its funny how running less miles like today can be so challenging.

Congratulations to Offshore for completing the summer challenge today by taking an amateur bike ride.

It was great partnering with Swiper today during the alternating 400s.  Well done to Sippy and Saab for pushing the pace.  Our groups were together the entire 24 minutes and it was exhausting.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS
    • Labor Day Convergence at Three Lakes Park – Sept 3rd at 7:00. See Pre-Blast
    • F3 RVA’s 4 Year Anniversary Convergence – Sept 22nd starting at 6:00. Runners and Non-Runners are needed.  See Pre-Blast

    Gotta Run!

    Phonics

  • Minimalist Backblast

Many Pax by foot and bike welcomed Fall weather to the RVA.  Despite Marv’s constant pleading to run the Carillon route, we elected a new Lockjaw route of a trapezoidal nature with several dog leg turns.

It was great running with EF Hutton and Phonics – good company, conversation, and pace.

Puppy Pile tomorrow – 7:05 – Carillon.  See Marv for details.  Bring your kids.

    Time to Taper,

    Lockjaw

  • Praise the Lord, and pass the Gatorade. (preblast… Dirt Church Sundays at 0800)

For a couple of months now, some of us have been assembling on the short street in front of the Courthouse Church of Christ for a Sunday Funday Liturgy of Singletrack and Gravel.  Non-demonenational (we’ve even had ‘cross bikes), and no-drop, with routes that can be as short as an hour and as long as twice that and change.   It’s real mountain biking, so helmets are required and you’ll want to be prepared.  Bailout points will be available for the time-compressed.  When RVA MORE closes the singletrack for weather-related reasons, this ride very easily becomes Gravel Church.  We roll at 0800.

YHC has been riding the venue for about ten years and has seen the scene mature and Pocahontas State Park become a real MTB destination.  Plenty of old dudes (and not so old dudes, and not dudes, for that matter) are out here every weekend and you may see someone you already know.

Come channel your inner Tinker Juarez with us (he’s 57 now, btw).

  • Carillon the Right Way…

24 descended upon Mary to see where their legs and wheels would carry them.  After Splinter provided a quick translation of the Belizeian word for “Hello”, we were off.  Runners covered distances ranging from 4 to 8 miles, and every distance in between.  Bikers covered all that is RVA.

YHC’s Lab Rat-esque apology goes to the 4 and 5 milers, who got slightly lost – but gained extra distance – thanks to poor instructions from the Q.

    Announcements:

    • Puppy Pile next Saturday
    • Dirt Church coming to a back blast near you

    Saab Abides

  • Back to Basics

13 of RVA’s finest posted this morning by foot or pedal.  Here is what happened, more or less.

    The Routes:

East on Grove and north on Malvern.  Take Broad St east.  4s take Belmont south, 5s take Davis, and 6s take Lombardy; all southbound to Grove.  West on Grove the the VSF.

    Swirly took us out.

With Lockjaw’s summer tour closed out, it was a welcome return to the Friday RAMM.  YHC wanted a nice and simple route and upon delivery of instructions, not a single question.  Mission accomplished.

Broad St is under development with the new Pulse bus line and an ever evolving Scott’s Addition.  As one runs this route, you see people living on the streets with their possessions close by and sleeping when/where they can.

Go forward today mindful of all that you have.  For many of the Pax, your problems are insignificant in contrast to those of others’.

    Time to Taper,

    Lockjaw
