  • My cup is full and my tank is empty

With no Q on deck, YHC took the torch and planned the route. YHC was introduced to this route by Oyster and YHC has wanted to do it again for a while now – so perfect opportunity. The route is simple head down Grove, take a left on Three Chopt, then an immediate right and run down to the end of the cul-de-sac and back. I think the PAX was a little worried at first given YHC’s directional challenges however everyone made it back and no one got lost. For the 6s you have to do a bit extra, for everyone else it was out and back.

The mumble chatter was very welcomed for the 4/5ish group – very entertaining mix of conversation covering everything from the demands of church leadership to PG-13 jokes about potatoes (ask Saab for the joke). No word on the 6s mumble chatter, likely they were just huffing and puffing because they were so fast.

  • Little Sappling

Thankful for all the small things today, this crew covered a traditional route that included Monument and Grove. Classics never go out of style.

  • Buttheads

    Buttheads

Four nincompoop runners accompanied three nincompoop ruckers for today’s RAMM. Yesterday’s slack teaser only resulted in a few takers; perhaps without the teaser no one would have shown. These are today’s questions that will never be answered.

    The Route

Inspired by last week’s personal diversion coming back from Monument, this week’s route promised to be the simplest complex route ever.

Course boundaries were Hamilton to the east, Broad to the north, and Chantilly to the west. Start by turning right on Grove. Take first left. Then first right, left, right, left, etc. until you reach a boundary. Once a boundary is reached, turn around 180 and head the other direction, following a similar pattern.

6s doubled back once they hit a boundary mother goose style to add mileage before continuing on.

Numbers, names, YHC took us out after coercion from Wedding Singer to move along.

    Moleskin

YHC enjoyed this route. After mapping it out yesterday, the route reminded me of the old 80s video game Q*bert. No box jumps today, simply a lot of left and right turns. Could have been an advanced level of Q*bert back in the day.

Upon arrival at home, YHC was greeted with strange looks from my 9YO. His comment was, “you ran in this?” YHC replied, “Absolutely! We are a bunch of nincompoops.” After inquiring what a nincompoop is because he had never heard that term he replied with, “We call them buttheads these days.” Buttheads indeed.

Thanks to the 4 runners who endured my creativity. YHC will lobby Lockjaw to name this route the Q*bert route.

Enjoy the day fellas. We bring the weather to everything we do! Bring sunshine today!

  • Hold My Flashlight…

A luck 13 descended upon Mary for a morning run, walk, ruck, bike. Here’s the core of it

5M – Follow route as is

4M – Do Not turn onto Old Locke Lane into Windsor farms.  INSTEAD you proceed straight across Cary, past church to Grove, then back to Mary

6M – Follow route as is, however, stay on Sulgrave until it turns to Canterbury….take to Cary then turn left back towards Mary via Westmoreland…(if you return on Commonwealth you will be a bit short….thanks Marv)

  • Tell me more about the third row

Eight by run, ruck, or bike came out to see if the pollen abated with the recent rain. Spoiler alert: No, its still strong.

Today’s route was a scenic stroll down Park Ave in the Fan and back on Floyd.

    Marv took us out.

  • It’s Still A Triangle, People

Fourteen dudes showed up at Mary Munford’s Elementary School on a warmer March morning (it was 27 degrees on Tuesday, 62 today…life in VA is never dull) for a jaunt around the southside of Cary Street (which, by the way, is closed for the next few months west of MM. Keep that in mind).

The route was an oldie but a goodie through Windsor Farms and then Hillcrest…for more detail…

    4s, 5s, 6s

Take Kingscrest to Malvern. South on Malvern until it dead ends in Windsor Farms. Take a left on Canterbury and circle around to make the Millenium Falcon lookin’ design on your MapMyRun app. Don’t take your first left on Dover, but take your second (Dover cuts through Windsor Farms). That runs you into Lock…right there there’s a cut through that gets you on to Pocohontas.

Head West on Pocohontas and then north on Hillcrest Avenue.

4s head out of the neighborhood at the top of Hillcrest. Take Oak to Harlan to Patterson. Patterson to Commonwealth and your back at MM.

5s take another lap around Hillcrest and then leave the neighborhood like the 4s.

6s take that same lap, but then head back up via Charmian to Cary. Uturn on Cary back south on Lock. Left on Dover (again) and then left on Berkshire. That leads you out of the Wonderful Windsor Farms neighborhood and to the Flag.

I hope everyone has a good weekend. I’m looking forward to trying to catch TYA on Tuesday.

  • You two are so cute….

Time to celebrate St Patty’s Day with a Pub Crawl! Grove to Lafayette to Broad and head east. Take a tour of Scott Addition and cut back on your respective cutover streets to Grove and back to the AO.

    YHC took us out.

    • For your calendars: CPR training in late April, Location TBD
  • Just turn left

Smaller crowd today and a simple route idea. 4 milers run on Grove to Meadow and head back. 5 or 6 milers (only YHC today) were to chase the 4 milers, making 4 left turns to run around the block each time they passed the 4 milers (essentially putting them 4 blocks behind each time). While on Grove, push the pace to catch the 4 milers, and while circling the block, slow up.

In short it worked, YHC posted ~5.8 miles, catching the 4 milers twice on the way to Meadow and twice on the way back.

COT: YHC took us out. Good verse to contemplate: “Act like men, be strong, let all you do be done in love.” I guess YHC was long winded, and shifting weight during COT ensued.

Moleskin: It was nice to have Lab Rat back to RAMM. Surprisingly WRAT was not broadcasting so strongly today. Singer seemed to be doing more of the talking when passing. Lots of talk about the sewer work closing down Cary St.. Great joke by TYA about this work–it was urgent to fix the problem or the $!#% will hit the Fan. It is downhill as we validated by our route today. Been laughing about that all day.

  • Widely Divergent

    Widely Divergent

Eighteen Atlantic Puffins returned to their imprinted nesting place promptly at 6:15. When they started, who they traveled with, and what route they took varied. What is known is that no one was alone… well except maybe Bodos. Regardless, we huddled up for a well said prayer from our friend Oyster. Very well said brother.

RAMM may now have a reputation as being disorganized. People start at different times, some people ride, some people walk, some people ruck, some people run. You know what? Who cares! Without fail, we all come back to our nesting spot when it’s time. Just like the Atlantic Puffin.

You can thank my 2.0 Tidwell’s digital report on the Atlantic Puffin for the backblast inspiration.

Enjoy the day fellas. It’s always a blessing.
