    MOLESKIN

Apologies a plenty, first to the 6s, YHC knew your route would be 2-3 tenths short, maybe a hair more. Figured there was enough intelligence among that crew to find the extra distance. Next, to all PAX for getting TYA lost. Woodberry was way too close and easy to see once turning on Hollins. TYA guarantees to Q the next 3 weeks with a healthy helping of Groooooove. Last apology to Bone for jumping the gun on the COT, should have known GPS would follow YHC’s directions to a T and bring you back on time.  For anyone else needing an apology, call the hotline.

  • 10/12 Big Data

We had a nice route through Westham.

  • Pucker’s Route

Just over half the normal number of Spiderlings gathered in the maintenance bowl for today’s route. At least 3-4 people were expecting intervals and I assume all the normal attendees that didn’t post also assumed the same. So when Pucker’s route was called, there was massive disappointment. Either way, we had fun while running in the thick humidity on the following route.

    The Route

    • Through the cave, across the bridge, around the cloverleaf, and head downstream
    • 4s pass Rattlesnake Creek and turn around at Stratford
    • 5s take a right on Stratford then quick right on Stratford and continue up to Cherokee
    • 6s continue on Riverside to a right on Rockfalls. Turn around at some strange spelling of cello.
    • Everyone reverse back the same course

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

It must have been because of the wonderful (sic) running weather this morning, as there was post-run coffeeteria (sans coffee) that continued until almost the top of the hour. Always great catching up with those that you do not run with on a regular basis.

Apparently this route is Pucker’s namesake. It’s at least Corned Beef’s favorite Spider Run route. May have to dig through the annals to see who first called ‘downstream’.

TClaps to TYA and Shakedown who doubled back to pick up Bone Thugs, only to find out Bone Thugs was not lost after all.

All in all, a great morning.

    Announcements

    • Best of luck to Bone Thugs who is navigating his 3rd interview today. Crush it today!
    • See slack for Beer Mile
    • See slack for volunteering for blood drive on 10/20
    • See slack for other random notices that serve as comic distraction from the daily routine

  • What Color are They?

20 hombres formed a running posse this morning to patrol the mean streets of Westham and south Westham. Conditions remained steady at 70 and sunny. According to the security cameras in the River Road Shopping Center, the following may have occurred:

    Routes:

Bat Cave to River, through the RR Shopping Center to South Ridge with the slight right onto South Westham to River Road.

4’s reverse at River and re-trace their route BTTF.

5’s continue on Westham to Lakewood (the Lakewood on the right), then reverse to South Westham, South Ridge, etc. and BTTF.

6’s continue on Westham to Baldwin (on the left), then reverse to South Westham, South Ridge, etc. and BTTF.

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

    Annoucements:

Pigskin is running a Blood Drive on October 20 in Chesterfield. Full details are on Slack. Please sign up for 1-2 hours of volunteering to help out. It’s easy, and it might save a life, perhaps your’s.

Faceplant kind of invited you, but sort of not really, to have a beer and run with him on October 16, then repeat 3x more to make an even mile and a certain upset stomach. He calls this a “Beer Mile” and says it’s about celebrating friends. Details on TikTok. What can YHC say? The younger generation just does their thing.

Q School coming to your AO soon.

Prayers for Tryhard, his family, and Chisel.

Splinter and Hutton had an interesting discussion about black and dark blue baseball players. Yeah, you read that right. And, that’s all YHC has to say about that.

Hats off to Fire Elf for pushing himself today and to Whitesnake for pushing hard. Nice work, fellas. Keep it up.

And, yes, Bone Thugs was there.

    UpChuck spits the bit.

  • Turn the Other Cheek

21 runners converged on the 21st day of September for a 21 gun salute to summer humidity and welcome cooler fall-like weather.

By the lake, by the baseball field and past the Robbins Center. Climb Boatwright and pick up Honaker to Patterson and take a left. Take a left on Westham Parkway and cruise through the neighborhood.

4s take a left on Lakewood and pick up the trail around the lake. 5s take a right on Lindsay and a left on Forest and then a left on Lakewood to pick up the trail around the lake. 6s cruise down to Westham Station and take the bat cave home.

    Handshake took us out.

Announcements: Start collecting old, gently used shoes for delivery to those who need them. See Gypsy for details. Also, Corned Beef is looking for a cornhole partner for those interested for this weekend’s retreat.

Moleskin: Backblast title refers to Flatline’s method for letting runners know he is there as he passes. Let’s just say don’t shake his hand immediately following a run.

  • Back At It

    MOLESKIN

YHC unintentionally signed up to Q post BRR, but that turned out to be a great way to control the route and more importantly the hills.  Was looking for the flattest route possible, which isn’t easy around UR.  The 6s didn’t get spared.  BRR is less than a year away, see TYA for details.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

Field Day – this Saturday 9/18

Retreat – next Saturday 9/25 (sign up for Cornhole)

    Prayers for Splinter’s son’s 3rd grade teacher

  • No Running Games Today

YHC welcomed 20 harriers to Spider Run today to share in some pre BRR tapering. Unlike past YHC run routes, there were no games to be played, no dice to roll, and no chalk markings. Everyone was sad. But do not worry, the games will be back soon.

YHC has a propensity for not remembering directions, so YHC had to keep it super simple this morning. The route went like this for 1 milers, 2 milers, 3 milers, 4 milers, 5 milers, and 6 milers, and everything in between.

Head out the bat cave, run past the future site of the drive through Starbucks, cross the James river on the bridge, head east down Riverside Drive until you hit 22 minutes, turn around and do 23 minutes back. That’s it.

Everyone made it back safe and sound.

    Numbers, names, and announcements.

    YHC took us out.

Two and a wake up to BRR!

  • A Strangers Fist

Sixteen men on a mission to better themselves huddled around the hood of a blue truck, trying to decipher the pre-posted routes on a 4 inch mobile screen. The PAX was forewarned on Slack of the Qs anticipated hot arrival. YHC arrived with three minutes to spare. Plenty of time to review the routes (twice) before launch.

    The Route
4s, 5s, and 6s all took basically the same route today, with the only variation being the number of Horespen/Ridge Top loops.

    • Head west around the baseball field and left on College
    • Right on Lakewood to Westham
    • Right on Westham to Baldwin
    • Right on Baldwin and continue on Baldwin across Wood with runs by the backside of fraternity row
    • Slight left and the road turns to Horsepen
    • Up Horsepen to right on Patterson
    • Right on Ridge Top
    • 5s & 6s continue down Ridge Top and take a right on Horesepen and repeat the loop, with 5s only going halfway up before taking a right on Devon. 6s go all the way to Patterson
    • On the final descent down Ridge Top, left on Chandler, right on Gardiner, left on Wheeler, through the lit path and back to the VSF via Campus/Gateway
    • 6s touched the top of Chandler before finishing on Gardiner

    Announcements

    • BRR next weekend. Still not too late.
    • Field Day on 9/18.
    • Sit & Sip & Cornhole on 9/25.
    • NEW: Labor Day Convergence @ Hoedown. 7AM start.

    Moleskin

By all accounts, the route was successful. Sixteen started and sixteen finished (relatively on time). YHC had the pleasure of being in the company of Saab during the run and he quickly proclaimed this route was like another fist but with the middle appendage extended. Hence the name of this BB. Not the normal fist, but a stranger’s fist.

Great catching up with Sippy today. Congrats on the recent achievements.

    Enjoy the day fellas.

  • GROOOOOOOVE

Nice Tuesday morning for a run. 18 extracted themselves from the fartsack and made it to Spider run. Route was up the hill to three chopt, three chopt to Groooooooove, Grove to oak, Oak to Hillcrest and then back to the start. 4 milers double back at beginning of Oak, 5 milers at the end of Oak, and six milers go all the way.

    NMM

Mileage was a little short today. Change of starting venue takes about a 1/10th of a mile off the routes. Plus, the mileage for this route have always been a little shy of their milestones. Next Q, I will make up the mileage to everyone and give some free mileage to folks…

Steamy morning out there today. Everyone was really excited when I announce we were going be running on Grove. Only one of the three biggest fans of Grove was there, that was Saab. The other two Sippy and Marv were absent, so we will have a repeat performance for them when they are back.

    TYA OUT

A Formidable 15 faced elevation and complex geography. This is what transpired, more or less…

Climb Ridge Top all the way to Patterson, to Three Chopt, then to Boatright. Take Boatright to Campus Drive. Proceed to climb the following as an out an back: Bostwick, Old Mill.
