  • Kilodora did not Kill our Dora

7 HIM’s converged at Rockwood for a ride on the pain train, which in YHC’s estimation isn’t nearly as brutal as in past years, BUT plenty of reps nonetheless. Here’s how we crushed the comfort zone for the day:

    The THANG:

    WARMERAMA:

    • Mosey loop around the lot and circle up
    • Welcome & Disclaimer
    • A myriad of IC Reps to get all body areas sufficiently warmed up

    KILODORA:

    • Partner Up, with one HIM doing reps while the other runs the lot and back to switch
    • x100 No Cheat Merkins
    • x200 Heels To Heaven
    • x300 Squats
    • x400 LBC’s

    CABER SPRING CLEANING:

    • Mosey to the Pit
    • Remove all 8’ cabers, and PAX individually flipped cabers to end of pit and back
    • Pull out PAIN and CHAOS (14’ logs used for GTE #47), carrying out to dewy grass to roll and clean

    Mosey BTTF:

    • DORA wanted a little race up the gravel road, and while he was fast, he wasn’t fast enough!   😉

    COT:

    • Counterama # 7
    • Namerama
    • Announcerama (see Below)
    • BOM Prayer

    Prayer Requests:

    • RC’s mother – healing and peace
    • DTH’s business – wisdom and peace

NMS:  Absolutely perfect weather and a wonderful group of brothers to get after it with. Always amazing how much longer it takes than expected to get through the Kilodora. Appreciate you guys putting in the hard work! Yours AYE! ~DTH

    Announcements (SEE SLACK!)

    • July NoToll Ult Frisbee
    • Bridge
    • August Homegrown Half
    • Sept CSAUP at Alamo/SH/OH
    • Oct Growruck
  • The Sunrise Show

You can tout your fireworks or drone displays all you like, but nothing beats a glorious sunrise on a fine summer day. Five HIM’s got in a few miles under ruck-weight, and concluded with a ceremonial uncovering of the cabers and GTE logs. Conversation was excellent as usual and all five PAX stuck around for the main event – see next post… Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • MW Loopers

A hard-thing-loving duo we’ll call Try Clown took off on the Rockwood perimeter loop and lost themselves in deep conversation while pushing the Repeat Loop button for 53 minutes. With this level of humidity, better the open air than going into suffocating woods trails. Big Rig temporarily joined the romantic duo a couple times but kept taking off for more running miles. Halfway through the hour Chaplain and 2.0 Touchdown joined the ruck having laid out the deadly Abcathalon course. The PAX completed just shy of 3 miles, and quality conversation was enjoyed by all. Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • the floor is LAVA

The Crossing Crew was expecting molten temperatures, but 97 and breezy wasn’t all that bad in the shade… until you stepped onto 120 degree pavement in the sun. The Q thought very briefly about taking the PAX inside the church, but the Core Principles were instead honored in gloriously sweaty fashion – in the following manner:

    The THANG:

    WARMERAMA:

    • Mosey loops around the Annex Lot and circle up
    • Welcome & Disclaimer
    • The usual DTH top to bottom IC Reps

    COP #1:

    • Mosey down to the Portico (shaded)
    • Partner up for B.O.M.B.S. – Similar to Dora 1-2-3 but more exercises, B.O.M.B.S. consisted of Burpees (25x), Overhead Press holding Low Squat (50x), Merkins (75x), Big Boy Sit-ups (100x), and Squats (125x). Partner 1 does reps while Partner 2 bear crawls 20 yards, and lunges back to switch.
    • Mosey BTTF for a 3min water break

    COP #2:

    • Mosey down to the church
    • BLAZING HOT POLE SMOKERS (zero shade)
    • x30 reps OYO holding onto a parking space pole, legs straight, getting the hips off the ground to kick the sign

    COP #3:

    • Mosey around to the shaded side of the church, and circle up on a nice soft patch of grass
    • MARY – variable, more than 6 minutes, all reps in cadence, to include:
    • Crunchy Frogs
    • Low Flutters
    • WWII’s
    • LBC’s
    • Oblique LBC’s (each side)
    • High Flutters

    • Water Break

    COT:

    • Counterama # 5
    • Namerama
    • Announcerama (see Below)
    • BOM Prayer

NMS:  Solid work by The Crossing PAX. Extra credit to House Party for adding personal burpees to the workout. SORRY, WAS THIS NOT HARD ENOUGH FOR YOU MR LONGSLEEVES?!? Dude’s a beast. With shoulders smoked from NoToll and Ruckhenge, it was nice to focus on legs and abbs. Appreciated the opportunity to lead gents! Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • The Weight of TIME

Eleven HIM’s converged at Ruckhenge in 1000% humidity to happily discover that a new DTH caber would accompany their morning ruck. This conifer log is about 8’ long and weighs about 80-100 pounds, dense with embedded sap. The PAX took turns in pairs to share her uncomfortable weight as we looped through Larus and local neighborhoods. (See pictures on Slack). Dealer was heard to exclaim “oof, that log just hits different!” An official name of this hefty new coupon is still in progress but current candidates like “Justinian” and “Sophia” hail from our new book “The Uses of the Past: Profiles of Former Societies” by Herbert Muller (published 1952), and coincides with our post-ruck round table discussing world history in contrast with modern society issues/conflicts. Perhaps she will embody the weight of the past by simply being called “TIME.” Or we could call her “RAPTURE” (another topic discussed) as pertains to the unpredictability of the future. Can any of us guarantee tomorrow? Let’s get AFTER it today gentlemen! Yours AYE! ~Dr Tryhard

  • Chicken Junkie for the WIN!

37 PAX including 12 proud Dads, one baller Mrs Heist & a massive gaggle of hard-charging 2.0’s (plus four lovely ladies in waiting doing their own walk/run) posted to The Forge for a memorable (and crazy fun) Father’s Day beatdown. Here’s how we honored the day!

    The THANG:

    THE RULE OF THE DAY:

    • No dad mosey’s without carrying a kid

    WARMERAMA:

    • Mosey to the bottom of Mount Chaplain, switch kid-load and run back to the top to circle up
    • Welcome & Disclaimer
    • The usual “fun” DTH Reps

    GETTING THERE:

    • Mosey past the high school, stopping briefly for curb crawls, both ways
    • Keep moseying down to the soccer field

    HUGE-BALL CRAB SOCCER – Round 1:

    • Split into two teams lining up behind goal lines then take the field via crab walk
    • After a goal scored take a “break”

    AMPHITHEATER “BREAK”:

    • Partner up for three rounds of amphitheater reps – Partner 1 does abb work at the bottom, Partner 2 box jumps to the top then jumps back down to switch

    HUGE-BALL BEAR/RUN SOCCER – Round 2:

    • Teams line up behind goal lines then take the field via bear crawl, but kids under 6 allowed to stand up and run/kick/tackle
    • After goal scored take another “break”

    HILLSIDE “BREAK”:

    • CLOCKWORK MERKINS – x3 merkins for each hour of the clock face all the way around

    HUGE-BALL CRAB/BEAR/RUN RUGBY – Round 3:

    • Teams line up behind goal lines then take the field via bear crawl OR crab walk, but kids under 7 allowed to stand up and run/kick/tackle – full on rugby happening…

    MOSEY BACK:

    • Dad’s shoulder kids and mosey BTTF
    • En route stop for coupon squats (kids still in shoulders)

    FRISBEE FETCH:

    • DTH collects frisbee while CHAPLAIN leads a Mummy Kick extravaganza
    • Kid throws the frisbee, first Dad calls an exercise/reps then their own kid throws next
    • Completed maybe 8 throws down and up Mount Chaplain with variable reps

    MOSEY TO THE SLIP&SLIDE:

    • OYO participation, competing for style points, ladies serving as judges
    • CHICKEN JUNKIE for the Win!

    MOSEY BTTF for COT:

    • Counterama # 37
    • Namerama (for time’s sake new kid names chosen by their dad’s)
    • Closing Prayer
    • Tailgating and further slop&slide fun

NMS:  This was an AWESOME group today! Solid PAX of HIM’s and their families today, with all the kids having a blast and all the Dad’s getting a solid beatdown. Kudos to Mrs Heist for joining the workout. Props to SABLE carrying two kids for all the mosies, and to a couple older Chaplain 2.0’s embracing the carry-challenge as well! Shout out to FNG Chicken Junkie for winning the slip&slide competition. And thanks to all those who brought food and bevvies for afterwards. Let’s do it again soon! Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • Champions Rule Losers Drool

A lucky 13 ultimate warriors took to the perfect turf field of The Forge for a 6v7 game of Ultimate. Our captains Snuff and Oyster picked teams, trying to evenly split by footwear and height. Turns out neither of those variables matter, nor even an extra player. Team Snuff maintained a strong lead with excellent passing and TD runs, winning over Team Oyster 7-4. Thanks to L Woods for bringing the pinnies which helped a ton. Welcome to FNG Dopamine (Jacob from Midlothian area) who’s a premed undergrad at Randolph Macon currently shadowing DTH. Appreciate all you guys showing up and putting in the work! Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • Hard On For Morning Men

Seven gloom warriors shattered any remnant of lazy Saturday vibes by packing out heavy steel weights and speed rucking a few miles around Rockwoods Park in preparation for Big Rig’s birthday Q. Great to meet Cavity Search and share some missionary adventure stories. Gos is good all the time! Yours AYE, DTH

  • Sweet Alphabet Sweat

4 uncommonly handsome met gathered at the crossing of life and sweat. With HP’s knee bothering him we decided to chill the pace and leave modification wide open. In true Pearls fashion the PAX stopped 26 times circumventing the church grounds to bang out reps (usually 20 IC) for every letter of the alphabet. After the NoToll shoulderfest it was a pleasure to keep a slowsy vibe and of course the conversation with old friends was sublime. God is good all the time! Yours, DTH

  • Packin Balls

What do you do when the guy who’s been holding your ruck gear no-shows? Load up an extra bag with a set of heavy bocce balls and roll out in style to the jolly cadence of balls clacking. Nice to catch up with PR and Scram and get to know Bru. Rocked out a little over 3 miles through Larus trails and Stony Point Fashion Park. Deep conversation followed at Einstein along theological lines. God is good all the time! Yours AYE! ~DTH
