  • Retirement

3 seniors arrived to WDog in the thickness of a late summer gloom to discuss the twilight of life. Here’s how it went down.

COP: all vets so we hit the trail

THANG: You know the drill: 1-mile loop with alternating merks and squats; x2. 220 merks, 220 squats

COT: Knucklebumps and thoughts for those that need it.

NMS: It was brought up how much darker the mornings feel already which led to conversations about retirement and how quickly time passes. Could have been a somber topic, but it really wasn’t. We all decided that sitting around wasn’t really our jam so we’ll keep plugging along.

Have a great day men and be memorable.

    BT out!

  • Cal Ripken, Phil Kessel, and Brett Favre at The Clinic

4:00 a.m. at the COP. A record starting time for a domestic Clinic.

4:01 a.m. 40 pound pack loaded and off. A record load at The Clinic.

3.7 miles, or roughly 6 loops (more loops than a full Barkley Marathon, which is only 5 loops). A record rucking distance at The Clinic.

Today is 150 (maybe more) versions of The Clinic. YHC has attended all of them. Record. Still streaking. And, likely an F3 record.

Today is also 150 (maybe more) consecutive Q’s for YHC at The Clinic. Incredible. Also, another record. (Footnote: possibly the all-time F3 record for an

Total numbers at The Clinic…154. Also, you guessed it, another record. Boom.

And, the route was done counter-clockwise today…as usual…also another record.

  • Hutton has some choice words about your form

A strong PAX of 10 came out to see how moist the AO was at 5 am. The initial mosey had 9 of us with Fudd pulling in as we took off. An attempted silent COP was unsuccessful as Fudd lived up to his namesake and sniffed out the pax.

After the COP was a 4 corners, sans the corners: 15 HRMs, 20 Donkey Kicks, 30 Heels2Heaven, 40 squats. Partner up and retrieve a Coupon from the Truck. Mosey over to Triangle park for 2 rounds of Block the Plank.

After enjoying the lush thickness of the grass mosey to tip of park for Dora 123: 100 Block Thrusters, 200 Block Presses, 300 Squats. Then back to spot for 3 more rounds of Block the Plank.

Mosey back to lot for descending curls and runs. Drop coupons off at 5:45, expedited COT as it really started raining.

NMS: YHC knew it was going to be a fun morning when he woke up to the heavy rain at 3 am. Humidity was 80% and at some point it started raining but PAX couldn’t tell from the sweat. Great to have double digits at FW in a muggy August morning.

  • Dyke Night? Ask for Hermey

5 HIMs woke up this morning to show up to The Woodshed, where they were promised to be kept “dry.” At least from the rain-soaked ground, however the humidity said, “Hold My Beer!” Here is how it went down:

Warm Up: Mosey around the parking lot, followed by various IC exercises and stretches. Instructed to partner up with 1 group of 3. Grab cinder blocks and set up for first COP.

COP 1: Start at one end of the parking lot with P1 performing called exercise with coupon and P2 running to the end of the parking lot. Partners switch and then move coupon back a parking space to increase the run distance. Exercises were: Front Raises, Incline Merkins on the block, Oblique Dips, Tricep Skull Crushers and Bicep Curls. Performed 2 rounds.

COP 2: Start at one end of the parking lot with P1 performing SSH, while P2 runs down to blocks and performs called exercise, bernie back to switch with partner. Blocks also moved forward to increase bernie distance. Exercises were in quantity of 10: Overhead Press, Bus Drivers, Upright Row. Performed 1 round.

COP 3: Quick Parking Spot 11s: Exercises were Decline Merkins, bear crawl to end of parking spot and perform squats, bernie back to beginning of parking spot.

Time called, Numbers, Names, Announcements (8/21 5-8 PM Hot Ones Wing Challenge at New market Clubhouse – M and 2.0 Friendly, Bring swimsuits to swim and check slack for sign up for food/beverages, 9/11 8 PM Memorial Ruck starting at the Alamo), Prayer Requests (Excels sister having appendectomy today, Gotham’s continued healing from knee injury, Globetrotter’s continued progress in the right direction).

Coffee at Wawa afterwards with some good conversations about Dyke Night at a local restaurant (See Hermey for details), red wine selections at Trader Joes and local camping/fishing holes. Great time this morning fellas! I appreciate you showing up to push! Have a blessed day!

  • Yahweh Approved

An intrepid band of nine SOJ stud ruckers chose the hard way this morning, no – not with coupon carries, but by following their fearless leader into the unknown with only Google Maps and Yahweh as their guides. The PAX launched immediately into uncharted territory skirting behind nearby apartments and crashing through woods onto Huguenot to avoid wading through a retention pond. Then we briefly paid our respects to Yahweh at the Jewish temple and ducked back into the woods alongside the pond via the “Or Ami Origami Lake Path” which was new to all of us and surprisingly clear. YHC kept a brisk pace and the PAX then had a little road-time moving back around the Trader Joe’s shopping center, stopping periodically to complete squats for the SIX. Next up – invasion of the Stony Point apartments, and break through the other side into uncharted parts of Larus park. The PAX briefly encountered nice clear trails but the Q was determined to remain off-road, traversing muddy gullies, climbing steep woods hills, and navigating countless fallen trees. The rain was a nice distraction, interval stops to do squats for the SIX kept the quads lit, and no injuries were incurred. All PAX expressed appreciation for the hard way this morning and we had a fantastic coffeerama and spiritual discussion at Einstein’s afterward. Always a pleasure gentlemen! Yours AYE! ~DTH

    Announcements (SEE SLACK!)

  • Watch out for that dog!

5:30 came and went and so four of us went running to the WB Village Gazebo. We did some warmups and then a routine of running around blocks of townhouses and returning for some version of 20 dips, WW2 and Merkins. We did this 4-5 times and then headed home with a quick stop for 20 Squats. When we got back to Poca, a dog came running for us from the bus loop. We quickly turned and decided to pick up Pigskin instead of fighting the dog.

Then we realized it was just Wally saying “hello” as Gypsy and Mr. Rogers came a little late and did a peg-leg Kettlebell workout (to the boredom of the dogs). We came by and said “hello” to Mr. Rogers and the pirate and then did a bus loop lap with Wally to hit 3 miles.

Lunch next Tuesday at the Fish’n Pigskin out at Innsbrook. Hope to see you there.

  • Scared of the Weather App

Twelve Spider Run veterans gathered in the threatening gloom for today’s iteration of Spider Run. After what may have been a ruse Q sign-up, only to have it empty this morning, there was brief discussion of what to do. Luckily we know these roads.

Three options (and a laughed at 4th) were offered. Mount Henrico, Across the River, or The Cardinal. Originally, the PAX wanted a flat route for the thick air but opted for The Cardinal to outrun the storm. The storm never came.

    The Route

Out and back. Around the baseball field, up Boatwright, across to Honaker, left on Patterson, right on Charles. Yes, right on Charles. Yes, right on Charles. Out till you hit your half mileage then reverso.

Directions were repeated and the right on Charles was once again confirmed.

Numbers, names, Marv took us out.

    Moleskin

Discussion amongst the 5s was around the show Alone, which prompted introspection and sharing of the loneliest times of our lives. Great philosophy for 0530 in the morning.

Announcements included Bodo’s showing off his Scrabble or perhaps Balderdash prowess. Upon learning of his donation of the legendary Volvo, impecunious was shared.

    Riotous cachinnation ensued.

  • hear the thunder

  • Ride the Lightning

7 headbangers + 47 minutes of circle mosh to Metallica’s 1984 album Ride the Lightning. In an attempt to generate enough static electricity to summon even more lightning, mankillers in the middle of the field. COT laying on the pavement, rain gently falling from the sky.

We were going to listen to the black album, but there were so many flashes and so much thunder from the oncoming storm that we had to pivot. Good times reminiscing about the old days when music was raw and cassettes needed rewinding. And after all that, the storm never came. Takeaway is: never wait on the rain. Ride the Lightning.
