  • 5th time’s not a charm

    Ten strong warriors and White Deer came to my 5th Q in a row this week. Pigskin and Lighthouse were at all five and one of them paid for it.

    The Pax requests to go straight to coffee started before 7 but the 11 endured the following first:

    Warmups of SSH, DQ, Cherry Pickers, Arm circles, LBCs, Candy Corns

    Dora to show off to the 2 playing pickleball: 100 merkins, 200 squats, 300 LBCs with partner running to the end of the courts and back

    Mosey to the lit soccer fields to then be chased down by a lady in a golf cart telling us we must leave.

    Mosey to the frosted football field for a double quarter pounder: 1st time: 25 merkins, 50 reverse crunches, 75 mountain climbers (single count), 100 SSH: bernie back to goal line after doing each exercise at the appropriate yard line. 2nd time: 25 HRM, 50 American Hammers (single count), 75 Bobby Hurleys, 100 Candy Corns (ouch).

    Crab walk ten yards, ten WWIIs, repeat to the 50. Bear Crawl ten yards, 5 merkins, repeat to the goal line. Hands nice and cold now.

    Burpee ladder back. (this is when the Pax told me that liked me better when I was injured) 1 Burpee at ten yard line, 2 at twenty yard line, all the way to 10 (55 in total).

    Ran a lap around the field and then back to the start for 5 minutes of Mary.

    Did some Freddies, Flutters and LBCs until the end.

    Circled up, did some prayers and then Pigskin wanted more attention and got light headed and needed some help from the Pax. It was a combination of the cold, the tough workout and maybe a smidge of him being 70. He felt better after some water, coffee and banana bread (recommended by 4 out of 5 actors who play a Doctor on TV).

    I suspect Pigskin is doing some Balls to Wall at home now for fun.

  • Divergent Paths

    The best thing about Morning Wood is that you can pretty much just do whatever you want. Big Rig got in some early miles (10 total) in typical Big Rig fashion. Florence and YHC joined for the latter portions of the run. House Party Rucked around the main road of the park. Mudslide and State Farm ventured to parts unknown. Touchdown shot baskets in the dark by himself. As is customary: a good time was had by all.

    Mustang almost gave Gomer a heart attack with the “Mustang Way” COP

    Buckhead nearly had a mutiny with calling up increasing burpees

    Corned Beef and Spit brought some tradition to Dogpile with their Q

    All around it was great to be back in the city for Saturday morning beatdown

  • The Fence is Your Friend

    12 SOJ all-stars gathered in the chilly gloom for the latest edition of Rock N Roll. The following is a brief summary for your viewing pleasure:

    Mosey to the parking lot for Warmarama:
    LBC’s, Freddy Mercuries, Alabama Prom Dates, American Hammers, Dead Man Hang AND Forward Straddle Hops, Mario Jumps, Karaoke, Walking Knee Pulls, Mummy Kicks all across the parking lot.

    Mosey to the back of the baseball fence for Exercise One: 100 Chain Smokers. Stop when the first man hits 100 (Florence).

    To the Baseball Outfield for Exercise Two: 7’s (kind of like 11’s); Chicken Peckers and Donkey Kicks. Run along the outfield fence in between sets.

    Mosey to the back Parking Lot for Exercise Three:
    Triple Check – Run down the hill and back, Merkins, Jump Squats.

    To the Pull Up Bars for Exercise Four: Circuit – do in any order:
    10 Burpees, 20 Hanging Knee Raises, 30 Hand Release Merkins, 40 WWII Situps, 50 Dips.

    Back to the Parking Lot for Exercise 5: Crab walk across the parking lot.

    To the Flag for 2 minutes of Monkey Humpers

    Final Thoughts: Great group this morning! First time really feeling the fingers freezing – especially during the Chicken Peckers. We had a random Michigan fan pop in during the circuit and trash talk Big Rig. He did not appear overly interested in coming out for a workout, unfortunately. What I love about Rock N Roll is that it has developed an amazing core of PAX who are very consistent. As always, it was a great honor to lead. Happy upcoming birthday to POSH!

  • SOJ knows it is always sunny in the gloom

    The rumors were swirling that the north of the river men were saying that SOJ wouldn’t hack the cold weather. This morning 12 angry SOJ beasts showed up to prove them wrong…wearing jorts of course!

    Here is how it went down

    Warmarama- quick mosey to the front of the entrance and back followed by SSH, Don Q, Imperial Walkers, Cherry pickers, Merkins, LBC’s

    11’s – Decline merkins & jump squats- runner to the opposite end of the parking lot

    triple check with coupons- curls, skull crushers, runner to the other side of parking lot

    BUILD THE HILL- 1/4 way up the hill 5 burpees…back to the bottom ….1/4 way 5 burpees continue to 1/2 way for 10 mountain climbers….back to the bottom…followed by burpees, mountain climbers and 3/4 way 15 lbc…lastly climb one more time 5burpees , 10mountain climbers, 15 LBC, 20 SSH

  • Groveeeeeeeeee

    11 greats showed up this morning to battle the dropping temps and this is what ensued.

    YHC missed the days of yore when all the PAX did was run Grove, so Grove it was, this time we did the Oyster Grove. This Oyster Grove variation takes us west on Grove, then a left on to Three Chopt, and an immediate right past CCV and all the way down to the culdesac and back up again. The turn around point is 2 miles so the 6’s added on some extra hills on Tempsford Lane – that was brutal. Everyone met back at the school, and YHC took us out.

    Prayers for all the dads out there who’s kids love them but express their love in many different ways.

    9 brothers hit the HHS freezer to honor the snake.

    Mosey to bus circle for some curb-to-curb merkins/bear crawls and dips/crab walks. Mosey to another parking lot for side straddle hops, DQs, cherry pickers, and a sampling of Broga to complete the warmup.

    Mosey to the soft, dry comfort of the turf football field for The Snake.

    Start on corner of the field where goal line and sideline meet. Run along the goal line to opposite sideline. Run up sideline to 5-yard line, then run along 5-yard line to opposite sideline. Run up sideline to 10-yard line then drop for 10 merkins. Run along 10-yard line to opposite sideline, up sideline, back across 15-yard line, up sideline to 20 then drop for 20 mountain climbers. Repeat – 30 merkins at 30-yard line, 40 mountain climbers at 40-yard line, 50 merkins at 50-yard line. 

    Halftime guest performance by Doozy singing his hit single β€œMan Killers.”

    Do The Snake run on the back half of the field doing 50 American hammers, 40 flutters, 30 hammers, 20 flutters, and 10 hammers.

    Mosey back to flag but hit Peoples Chair for a two minute hold.

    Enjoyed the fellowship and mumble chatter and prayer. I’m not bringing my mom next week.

  • Last Saturday of Oct

    3 Bootcamps and 1 Rucker enjoyed one last warm Saturday in Daville.

    YHC got started earlier with a 3 mile ruck around Giles since he had an early little league game to coach for.

    Bootcamp completed varies exercises at the normal 6:30 start time

  • Was she hot?

    Ten showed up on a cold morning and split up into three groups. Pigskin and Tonka ran around the school and did 200 merkins and likely dips, squats and other fun. A locked down track forced Gypsy, Gomer and Blue Moon to do a mix of running and walking around the parking lots. The remaining five “healthy” ones of me, Hutton, Handshake, Lighthouse & Mr. Rogers (and two dogs) did 5 miles that included Ridgefield to John Rolfe to Pump to Church to Lake Lorraine and back down Pump to Godwin. On the way up John Rolfe, we passed many quick female runners and the darkness had us assume they were all attractive. Hopefully, they assumed the same for us.

    A good group of 8 for coffeteria at Dunkin followed.

    3 Sherpa’s gathered in the Gloom hoping to find Senor Frog’s truck in the parking lot this morning but it was no where to be seen. 5:30 hits and lets mosey

    First exercise is 20 Merkins at each stop. First light 20 Merkins run back to the start and then to the second light for 20 Merkins repeto 4 times

    At the top second set of Suicides is a bit different, at the first light do 20 WWII’s. Mosey to the second light 15 WWII’s, Third light 10 and fourth is 5 back to the top

    Last set pick up the lights on the way down doing Squats at each light 20, 15,10 and 5

    BTTF with time left for Sugar Sticks IC, American Hammers IC and Scrunchy Frogs IC

    NMS:

    PAX really wanted to take Senor Frog on a tour of the hill and the plan was to visit Twin Team regardless of Senor Frogs attendance. Last Call had mentioned that he had read about Suicides on Twin Team but he had never been present for the actual event. YHC aims to please so his wish was my command. Rosie did inform YHC that there are a ton of other options for a beatdown at this AO, his suggestion was considered but got rejected in the end.
