  • WTH Thriller

    Darkness falls across the land
The 5:30 half hour is close at hand
Five Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize the West Broad Village neighborhood
    And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for running up and down
Must stand and face the Hounds of Hell
And run inside a parking deck shell
To the top we ran in the air
The funk of four corners fear
10 Merkins, 20 Plank Jacks from every tomb
30 Squats and 40 Smurf Jacks to seal your doom
And though you run up and down the stairs to stay alive
And at the Gazebo your body dips and steps up & starts to shiver
We finish with 35 merkins and 40 WIIs because we can’t resist
The morning of the WTH thriller
AH HA HA HA HA HA HA

  • Rocket Fuel

I saw NTB post a solo beat down at The Forge recently. “Pretty cool,” I thought. A different type of “test” as Rosie commented, a different mental angle on resolve and commitment. As I watched the clock inch closer to 5:30, a solo outing appeared imminent. Then headlights beamed across the asphalt and our notorious Wildcat emerged from his parked car. Who better to light the fuse of a post Yeehaw beat down? The rain had lightened up, and millions of bags of wrapped candy lay in the back of cupboards all across town. LET’S GO!

Warmarama: Mosey around the school, reach high (Shawshank stretch?), deadman hang, helicopters, copperhead squats, merkins, slow count Freddie Mercurys

Dora #1: Runner across the lot and back, 50 double-count KB lunges, 100 KB swings, 150 KB calf raises

Dora #2: Runner across the lot and back, 100 merkins, 150 KB lawnmower pulls, 200 arms circles

Dora#3: Runner across the lot and back, 50 overhead KB presses, 75 KB front raises, 100 single-count Freddie Mercurys

Triple Check-ish: 30 KB curls, 30 KB skull crushers, 100 single-count Freddie Mercuries, lower reps to 20 and repeat KB curls and skull crushers, keep Freddie Mercurys at 100 single-count, a final run through of 20 KB curls and skull crushers, Freddie Mercurys again at 100 single-count

Time called. Numbers. Announcements. Wildcat took us out in prayer.

As you all know, Wildcat is a great guy and the perfect partner for a fast-paced beat down. Wasn’t my time today for a solo run. Thanks for the company, for the iron, for the faith and fellowship!

  • Bermuda Triangle

5 zombies ventured into the cold mist of the Bermuda Triangle. It was a great morning for the living dead to put this AO to some good use on Halloween.

Mosey over to the picnic pavilion for a typical warmarama

SSH IC, Don Quyotes IC, Imperial walkers IC, LBCs IC, American Hammers IC

    Multi tasking

Slow and fast calf raises while doing arm circles

    Dora

run to the parking lot and Bernie back and complete the following

    100 chair dips

    100 squats

    100 merkins

    100 ball dippers

Mosey to the playground inside the running track for a clunky triple check

    PAX does the following

    Toes to bar

Walking jerkins (walk hands to each end of one dip bar and do a jerkin)

    timer does a lap

Mosey to the Graveyard (basketball court) for zombie suicides

Sneaky lunges (walking lunges on tippy toes wit hands out like zombies) for the duration of Thriller. Stopping at each quarter of the yard for mountain climbers, then kick throughs on the second round.

State Farm had to jet so we chased him back to the flag. He made his departure as the PAX headed for the wall of the bathhouse for the people’s broken chair (one legged wall sits) followed by a standard people’s chair.

Made a short run around the parking lot with multiple Burpee stops to finish off with 5 burpees.

  • Solo Again

Two ruckers started the day the right way. YHC hit the wet pavement and surprisingly dry gravel track for his second consecutive solo Raider Run. Despite on-and-off drizzle, the weather was not bad with pretty much ideal running conditions. Sorry you all missed it.

  • Halloween Havoc

Eight of the area’s finest gathered in the light mist for today’s Spider Run. With no one reviewing routes prior to launch, one round of instructions didn’t suffice. YHC had enough and off we went, offering traveling instructions for the sixes. Today was the middle section of the turkey trot route, everything up through going south on Westham. Here are the instructions, typed out as complicated as possible.

    The Route

Left out of parking lot and left in front of the Commons. Veer right around the lake and take your first left up the hill. Right at the top of the hill, behind the Greek Theatre, then right at the tennis courts, down the hill, dumping you out at the lake bridge. Left through the path, right on College, left on Lakewood then left on Westham. That’s mile 1 folks, and the end of this week’s turkey trot preview.

Everyone turn right on Sunset (aka the fake university according to Wedding Singer). Left on Ridge, right on Holmes to Ziontown. 6s go right on Ziontown to Ridge then turn around and head back, following these directions. Ziontown to University, right on Ralston. 6s continue on Ralston and do a loop around Windsor on the James before heading back on Ralston. Turn onto Rose Hill, right on Kingston, left on Gaymont, right on University. Back University, through the path, left across the bridge and BTTVSF.

4s did 4. 6s did 6. YHC was the only 5 so mother goose it was.

Apologies for the number of turns this morning. There was good intent.

    Announcements

    • Turkey Trot 11/21 @ Spider Run. Launch whenever needed to finish a 10k by 6:15. Full route will be posted soon

Be safe out there today everyone.

    Splinter out.

  • Get on your hands and knees for my birthday

Ten men showed up for some tricks and got no real treats except me. According to the guy running laps around the parking lot, we did the the following:

Ran to the end of the lot and then did a right reverse turn to the center of the football field for warmups: treats of 20 SSH, 20 Ukrainian Hammers, 20 Don Q, 20 Bird Dogs, 25 Candy Corns.

Stayed in the area for a round of shuttle runs/suicides with 10 Merkins at each stop with a final run of the full 100 with 12 Merkins at the end (52 treats in total)

Hit the hill neighborhood hoping for full size candy bars and partnered up for safety. One partner ran to the top and then ran the bases on the baseball field and returned while the other did squats. 3X. No treats, just extra running.

Split up the group at the bases. Home plate with a 5 burpee timer, 1st base Flutters, 2nd base WW2, 3rd base Hammers. Trick was that 2nd base was on the far field. More extra running and it made for longer ab exercises.

Now searching for fun sized candy, we found the blacktop and did a fun sized (2 times) partner exercise with one doing balls to wall toe taps while the other ran to the end and back.

Moseyed to the sidewalk behind the schools and ended up finding ten people in bear costumes crawling while the bear in the back did 5 burpees and ran to the front. Chaos.

Ended up back to the start for 5 minutes of reverse crunch bars, little baby ruth crunches, 50 candy corns and 10 sour burpees.

All rejoiced except Handshake, who expected me in costume and candy. He got a full refund.

  • 2Q

8 gathered in the rainy gloom for a special edition double q partner beatdown featuring OC and Snuff.

Both agreed that neither of them would have gotten out of bed on such a rainy cold morning if not for the fact that they couldn’t let each other down.

Warmarama under the pavilion – 50 SSHs with Chaplain arriving just in time to complete the even number. 20 DQs, 60 arm circles, 40 LBCs, some plank jacks and other stuff.

At that point Snuff was out of ideas so OC came up with countdown to November 11s: burpees and WW2s. Slight audible: booyah burpees and booyah WW2s. Teamwork.

10 minutes of mirkins, squats and WW2s while the partner ran to the gate and back.

Partner carry halfway across the field, then switch. Wheelbarrow back across the other half, then switch. 3 rounds of 20x PLTs.

Back to the flag with a stop to pay the toll: 10 partner dips + 10 partner mirkins on the bridge.

    COT.

It’s true – accountability is what carries us. Funny how we’re all just trying to keep up with one another – that’s the gift we give each other and that’s what keeps us coming back out no matter how deep the gloom. Who in your life do you hold accountable?

  • Third Time’s the Charm

Last time YHC posted here, got my butt kicked in 7 degree weather with an insufficient headlamp. This time, YHC was ready after running with the big dogs at Spider Run and kettlebells at Circus and proper equipment . Mission accomplished. Tclaps for Animal and Olan Mills who worked a 6 mile trail run into a 50k Saturday. They have a 50miler in Moab in a couple of weeks. Switch went to Radford and knows a bunch of runners in Midlothian, so be on the lookout SOJ. AO Hogwallow, F3 Alpha in Roswell, GA

  • First Cinderblock Purchase

YHC posted downrange while visiting family. YHC’s first cinderblock purchase was for $2.37 which didn’t seem too bad, but that means they were probably $0.33 last year. The BB tells it all: https://www.f3alpha.com/backblast/2023/10/30/birthday-q-3/
