  • Broga Time

3 wild and crazy guys joined YHC for a little Broga action. It had been a minute since YHC had Q’d a Broga session and it felt good to get back at it. Lots of good Broga work today – we downward dogged, we pigeoned, we triangled, we side stretched, etc. etc. Come join at the next session. Guaranteed to feel better afterwards. Guar.un.teed.

Thanks to Last Call for bringing the leaf blower to dry off the courts this morning.

  • Froot Loops

Eighteen. Yes, eighteen runners in the gloom set out for this crossover of winter and spring. Cool breezes and birds chirping.

Off to the lake and up by the baseball field to pick up the Robin’s Center and climb snake hill. A left on Edgehill takes us into the abyss. Pick up Three Chopt and a right on Patterson with an immediate left on Register Pkwy. Pick up W Franklin with a right.

4s turn right on Charles, 5s on Bevridge, 6s on Bevridge to Dustin to Maple. Everyone heads west on Patterson and returns the way the came in via Bandy and Boatwright.

    Marv took us out.

The air on Edgehill was fragrant with the smell of Froot Loops. Its a wonderful smell reminescent of youth, but in this case it was the smell of the Sassafras tree emerging from winter.

  • Serving with the 2.0s

Gumbo, Redbird (2.1) and Snare (2.2), cooked up some meatloaf, green beans, cornbread, and cookies and loaded the car headed for Daily Planet. The stubborn meatloaf took extra long to cook, but we made up time on the trip with Redbird at the wheel. A party of 10 was on the reservation sheet, but only 8 were in attendance when we arrived. No worries – all were served, fed and satisfied. We didn’t eat with the residents, but we served and chatted and made sure they were well fed. Another great time serving with my 2.0s and helping the good folks at the Daily Planet.

If you have not signed up and attended a #BreakingBread – do it. It is super easy. You can cook or you can buy and bring. You can serve and leave or you can stay and eat and spend time with the residents. That is all up to you. They are very grateful and it is a great cause.

    No More Gumbo For You!

  • Best Laid Plans

When I signed up for Breaking Bread a while ago I had big plans to get the 2.0s involved, get them some needed volunteer hours, and maybe be able to serve in person. Field trips, rescheduled parties, and uncertain staff changed all of that but it didn’t lessen the impact. YHC made a salad and a chicken, sausage, and rice dish for the current patients. I did get to go inside, set things up, and do a little helping out when a drink was spilled shortly after my arrival. The meal and brief company was well received with gratitude by all with some added feedback on my dish that everything is better with hot sauce.

A few days are open to serve at Breaking bread in the coming months, I encourage anyone to sign up if you are able. Feel free to reach out to someone that has done it before to team up or get the details – myself, Gumbo, Oyster, Honeydo, Splinter, Kubota, and many others have served before and would be happy to give some tips. Serving meals to these folks in need is well worth it, especially as we get to stay, serve, and spend some time with them.

  • No Plan This Morning

YHC joined the Graveyard Shift regulars and was greeted with the chance to run the show. I dug deep into my bag of tricks and managed to pull together a rather basic workout. Here is a brief summary for your viewing pleasure.

Mosey to the front of the school for warm-ups: Don Quixote’s, Helicopters. LBC’s, Cherry Pickers, Bruce Lee Punches, Squatting Roof Raisers.

Exercise One: Double Triple Check – Runner does a lap around the circle, other PAX do exercises: Dips, WWII sit ups, Copperhead Squats. Two rounds of each.

    Exercise Two: The Challenges
    300 LBC’s
    100 Jump Squats
60 HR Merkins all on your own

Exercise Three: Florence Style Wall Sitters – hold position for approximately two minutes

Back to the flag doing arm circles and a couple other things.

    Names/Numbers/Announcements/Prayer Requests.

    YHC took us out.

Final Thoughts: Always kind of fun/challenging to make up a workout on the fly. Much respect to Florence who was modifying and doing what he could with hip injury. Big Rig continues to be the early morning hero.

    Mary

Way to work guys, thanks for coming out and for allowing me to lead. First time I’ve ever seen all the lights working at Forest Hill park ! Thanks for taking us out Oyster!

Great way to begin the week ! See y’all in the gloom!

  • Exploring The Newmarket Sac(s)

5 Men gave the Heisman to the fartsack and came out to brave the gloom. An unusual sight on the Q sheet at 9:30 last night and no name was on the Q sheet for SH, so YHC jumped it and led the group on a cul de sac tour of Newmarket. According to Herme who drove by and gave a honk, here is what went down.

    COP:

Mosey to the top of the hill and back. SSH, Imp Walkers, Ukranian Soldiers, DQ, Arm circles big and small, LBC, flutter kicks, rosalita, merkins, and we were off.

    The Thang:

Mosey up the hill and hang a right to meet the first cul de sac. Partner up, partner one does called exercise while partner two runs to the bottom of the cul de sac and back. Do this throughout the neighborhood for eight cul de sacs in total. Below are the exercises for each

    1. Merkins
    2. WW2
    3. Carolina Dry Docks
    4. Freddie Mercury
    5. Planks alternating left hand and right hand high
    6. Windshield Wipers
    7. Dips on curb
    8. Squats

Mosey back to cul de sac on the left, through the woods and back to flag. Time was called. Mumblechatter started off strong with discussions of the norovirus with so many brothers battling it, to the benefits of a bidet to help with the battle. It started to slow down after the third tour. Though it seems like a relatively simple concept, when you don’t stop throughout it is a beatdown. Just north of 3 miles of running throughout while completing all exercises with no breaks. Well done gents!

    COT:

Numberama/Namerama. Recap of last weeks SOJ leadership meeting. Ideas on how to expand membership and shield lock brothers that haven’t been out in a while. Brought up the topic that was discussed at the meeting and shifting one day to Rountrey clubhouse to attract more members and give a different option during the week. Left open for more discussion but seemed to be viewed positively. Prayers for all of the PAX that are out with the stomach bug. Also those recovering on the IR. Prayers to crush the week ahead as leaders in our community. Great job again fellas, SYITG!

  • Working title

A baker’s dozen emerged from the gloom near Dogwood Dell on this crisp 70 and Sunny February morning for an opportunity to improve themselves. This is how it went.

Mosey to Reservoir for COP – All IC – SSH, Helicopters, DQ, Imperial Walkers, Copperhead Squats, Merkins, LBCs, APDs

Mosey to the Boathouse on Boat Lake for Dirty Mac Deuce – four sets of three exercises OYO – 12 double count reps/four count cadence/whatever…24 of them. After a set, run around the triangle (about .25 mile distance). At the field, 11’s across the short direction – Merkins and lunge across, American Hammers and Bernie Sanders back

    Mosey to the flag for 5 minutes of Mary IC – 20 x Freddie Mercury’s, 20 x American Hammers, 20 x LBCs, 10 x Heels to heaven

    Numberama/Namerama/Announcements

Prayers – MMOB (see below) requested thoughts and prayers for Ellie in Charlotte recovering from an accident. Remember there are always folks out there in need of some good thoughts even if you don’t know exactly what they’re going through.

Oyster gave an update on Breaking Bread – it’s back to in-person, coming inside and serving. F3 Richmond has been covering dinner the last week of the month for a number of years. Let’s keep it up! Look for open slots on the Q Sheet.

Pigskin’s church held a blood drive today. I didn’t get the backblast out in time to be ahead of it. Blood donations are always needed. Look for an opportunity.

We had a special visit from the Mothership Saturday – Mighty Mighty Owl Bait was in RVA for a rugby tournament and stopped in to DogPile to get a beat down on the road. It was a great opportunity to show off one of the most beautiful locations in Richmond and certainly one of F3 RVA’s AO jewels. Really glad to have you join us and get to know you a bit. YHC was proud to show off just a small part of what DogPile has to offer as an AO.

I once again appreciate the opportunity to come out and lead this group which has changed my life for the better in so many ways. SYITG

  • Wi Too Loe

Seven trail breakers fought off the weekend Fartsack to dominate the latest edition of Sunday Funday. Temperatures remained 70 and sunny. According to the woman with the dog who waved to YHC TWICE (!), the following likely happened:

Route: Generally, South Bank (Buttermilk) to T. Pottersfield Bridge to North Bank. Some did Riverside Drive. Some other routes on isles.

Numbers, names, and TYA took us out.

NMS: Unibomber is doing 10k training, and apparently 24 hour training. Yep – that’s run for 24 hours straight. Distance is you vs. you. Wow – stud. Put another way, that’s like starting to run at Wednesday Broga (4:30 a.m.), continuing through First Watch, then through WDog, then through The Crucible (that’s a 7:30 a.m. start), add in about 10 repetitions of Off the Books, hit Punisher (6:00 p.m.), and then run just about 9.5 more hours. And, have 15 more minutes at the end to decide what to do with his free time. April 23rd. Like a boss.

Solid chatter at ETs, as always. The muffins may be small, and the service may be indifferent, but the fellowship never disappoints.

    UpChuck spits the bit.
