Welcome to FNG – Polly (nee Adrian). Polly was brought out by Webelos visiting from F3 Naperville. Originally from Birmingham, moved to Twin Hickory from west Chitown, into music and a former Rugby Union flanker. Several great naming alternatives including Susan Boyle.  We left the Twin Hickory themed Swinger and Lasagna Party for next time. Several Rocky alternatives came to mind as well. Finally, we settled on a Peaky Blinders theme – which Polly will now binge on as he has never seen it.

Polly is hardcore, and so is Polly – cigars and brown liquor on the horizon.

Prayer Requests: Lab Rat, Handshakes family, Lighthouse family.

  • Reverso Nature Trail

3 HIM got their Morning Wood run in today before Chaplain’s beatdown. We did the reverse of the usual paved nature trail loop. Mumble chatter included OC’s doctor being a straight shooter, COVID lockdowns causing weight gain, and past running history in various races. Good luck to Rosetta, Boberry, Don Draper and Tobit running in Roanoke today.

  • The Taxman Came

30 road warriors coverged and ran towards the dark to welcome the Tax Man.  Would they take the Standard Deduction? Or face the threat of Compounding Interest, or suffer the Tax Lien?  We took it all on and then some!  But according to the guy sky-hooking newspapers on Grove avenue, it went a little something like this:

    The routes were:

The Standard Deduction is a delightful 6.39 mile romp that begins at Mary and takes Groooooooove toward Three Chopt, right on Henri, left onto Towana, left on Roselawn to UR Drive, UR Drive till it ends at River Road, and reverso back to Mary.

The Compounding Interest is an intoxicating 8.28 mile jaunt that begins at Mary and takes Groooooooove toward Three Chopt, right on Henri, left onto Towana and stay on it till it becomes Campus, Campus to UR Drive, UR Drive till it gets to the Bat Cave, take the Bat Cave and pass the shops on River Road, take Westham Station Road till it becomes S. Ridge Rd, take S. Ridge Road to Westham Pkwy, Right on Glen Pkwy, take Westhampton to Keller to Westhampton, Left on UR Drive back to the Bat Cave, head up Ridgeway and hug the golf course to Iris, Iris ends at Three Chopt, Right on Three Chopt back to Groooooooove, take Groooooooove back to Mary.

The Tax Lien (I apologize for releasing this one so late.) is an enchanting 9+ mile balderdash that begins at Mary and takes Groooooooove toward Three Chopt, right on Henri, left on to Towana and stay on it till it becomes Campus, Campus to the woodland trail by the UR entrance near College and Boatwright: the trail brings you to Wheeler Rd., Left on Wheeler, left on Hampshire, Hampshire becomes Baldwin, Stay on Baldwin till you get to Westham Pkwy, Left on Westham Pkwy and take it till it becomes S. Ridge Road, S. Ridge Road becomes Westham Station Road, Take Westham Station Road till you get to the Bat Cave trail, the Bat Cave trail takes you to UR Drive, Right on UR Drive, Right on Campus—it turns into Towana and will cross over Three Chopt and become Henri Road, Straight on Henri to Grooooove, Left on Grooooooove and it’s a straight shot back to Mary.

I got to Mary at around 3:45, and I proceeded to get my gear together and stretch out for the run ahead. I was about to get started, when I saw TYA with his dog. I was very happy to see him, because I wanted to go for a personal best today and who better to conquer the Tax Lien route with than the man who cut through all of my excuses and got me into running–so conquer we did! He is always a pleasure to run with!

There’s running, and then there’s F3 running.  F3 running comes with some therapy sprinkled in, some support, fellowship, safety, all from your brothers who are trying to get better just like you.  There is nothing like it!  The gifts that come from running with your brothers are the gifts that change lives and prevent complacency.  We need each other and one day each of us will be called on to pay those gained gifts forward.  I hope each of you experienced some of the same gifts when you ran with your brothers today!

I thank you all for the impressive turnout and for the support over the years and now!  It was a privilege to rise this morning and conquer with all of you!  I’ll end this backblast with one of my favorite poems in its entirety:

For Every Hill I’ve Had to Climb

For every stone that bruised my feet,

For all the blood and sweat and grime,

For blinding storms and burning heat

My heart sings but a grateful song—

These were the things that made me strong!

For all the heartaches and the tears,

For all the anguish and the pain,

For gloomy days and fruitless years,

And for the hopes that lived in vain,

I do give thanks, for now I know

These were the things that helped me grow!

‘Tis not the softer things of life

    Which stimulate man’s will to strive;

    But bleak adversity and strife

Do most to keep man’s will alive.

O’er rose-strewn paths the weaklings creep,

But brave hearts dare to climb the steep.

    L. E. Thayer

I am Bone Thugs, and I will see you at the crossroads.

  • The promised land

Darkest just before dawn. My memory, that is. 5:30am and everyone is looking at YHC. “My q? Are you sure?” Spontaneity, be my muse. Lord show us the way.

The slow mosey is the way. Warmups with 23 SSHs, 10 DQs, stretching and mirkins, 18 LBCs and arm circles. Expect the unexpected.

On the 3rd lap of a very vanilla triple check around the loop, with jump squats and WW2s, YHC said “let’s do something we haven’t done before.” DTH rattled off some options including the baseball field – no ones been there in a year.

A slow mosey around the corner and lo and behold, the abandoned baseball field was unexpectedly bathed in the glow of hot lights. A beacon in the dark. If you light it, they will come. At a slow mosey.

Ballpark triple check with home dugout dips, donkey kicks, and an in-the-park home run.

Feeling bold, we pressed on, pressed our luck, and did some things that may or may not have run the risk of pressed charges. What happened next is completely hypothetical.

If, hypothetically, the gate to the football field was magically wide open. And if, hypothetically, some men who had never been on the field decided to feel the soft turf under their feet. Hypothetically, would they have run the track before walking on to the field? Would they have done bear crawls 10 yards, 5 burpees, more bear crawls, more burpees, crab walks, hand release mirkins, lunges, etc etc all the way to the 50 yard line? And if that were to have happened, would they, running short on time, perform a 100-yd kickoff return at full sprint before exiting the field to the great and silent fanfare of sunrise? If it sounds implausible, it’s because it is. At least, that’s what Doublemint would counsel us to say.

A slow mosey back to the flag. Sometimes the best plan is no plan. And sometimes, just sometimes, touchdown.

Prayers for the family of Dr Tryhard. Prayers for others. For the fitness, fellowship and faith bestowed on this group. And for Dealer’s daughter on the road to potty training. May she find relief, but not in a diaper. Peace.

  • 90% Respect

Posted at Swansboro, NC municipal park for a Skid Mark beatdown. Came in hot due to not finding my gloves. Met a great group of mostly respect gentleman (6 respect 1 dbl respect and 1 fortysomething) It was a me and Wilson type of group.

Workout consisted of running from parking lot to parking lot performing various exercises. Exercises consisted of Merkins, WWI’s, Monkey humpers, Balls to the wall, donkey kicks, LBC’s, Squats, etc.

COT at the end and Skid mark took us out in prayer.

  • Poles and Pavement

After some back and forth last night over whether Doozy was going to relinquish the Q and hit RAMM or stay on the Southside for TwinTeam YHC took the Q. Ultimately the planned start time was a little early With no plan for the morning, except stay off the wet grass, and 3 hard charging F3 men in tow, we headed off into the gloom.

A brief mosey to the JRHS main parking lot for a standard warm up. Stay in the lot to use the light poles for a few things. First touch a pole – partner up for 4-3-2-1 light pole touches with partner doing plank, squats, HRM, and Freddie Mercuries. Mosey to the light pole in northwest corner of the lot for 11s – merkins and Monkey humpers at each pole, finish at the track entrance. One lap for mumblechatter and come up with the next thing – BLIMPS on the track. – Mosey on back with a stop for ROF and some Mary to close it out.

It was a nice cool morning for a beatdown and we were able to avoid most of the pollen streaks created by the rain. Thanks for joining me

Anyone up for Rock and Roll with Chaplain tomorrow will be in for minimal running, I see a ground and pound in your future.
