This run sucks. 5.4 miles just under 8 minute pace. Tobit and Doozy pushing the pace. Hill by the train tracks smoked me again. Let’s agree to make this quarterly! Respect to Doozy and Rosie for putting in 3 more miles at the end! Thanks to all the guys pushing me today and making me stronger.
The middle schoolers created a snowman with a dingaling beside the Midlo Middle School track that we passed 20 times this morning on our beautiful, 14-degrees and dark, mile repeats. That was certainly memorable.
5 PAX in search of a few miles met at Midlo Middle when it was still dark and early. According to the runner with no lights or reflective gear, this is more or less how it went down. Down Mt. Midlo, around the pond/lake/body of water, under woolridge, up through the grove, left on woolridge, left on charter colony, left on Manders, then Coalfield back to Midlothian Tpke. 4.8 to 5 miles in today. It was a blistering 26 and dark, but that didn’t stop Rosie from his uncovered knees and elbows uniform. With no one on the Q sheet and all route creativity left in 2023, we kicked off the MOT new year with an out and back on Coalfield. The pack broke into groups and got 4.5, 5, and Doozy distances. With two rain delays behind us, the budget friendly Tacky Light Run was finally a go. It was NOT 72 and sunny. YHC, the expert route maker, got us lost just once – where we navigated to the darkest cul de sac in the neighborhood. Nonetheless, we trudged on and ended with just over 5 miles of glorious fun. Unfortunately, along the way, many of the neighborhood light-gluttons failed us by turning off their artwork. As the SOT PAX led by NTB ran across the street to NTB, the MOT PAX headed off for a slightly familiar Don Draper curated 5+ mile route. It felt colder and darker than usual…even with the headlamps blazing. But it was nothing that a few miles and good company couldn’t cure. 3 runners gathered to dodge the rain drops or what seamed like it could pass for sleet. The route was SOT to Timberwolf and back – basically 3.5 miles one way. YHC’s Garman said 6.87 miles total Don Draper and Greenbow took a slight detour and put in 4 miles YHC didn’t make it back in time for the COT but got to talk with a few of the guys before heading off into the Gloom. 10 runners started out excited that the route included going down Manders. Somehow it was lost that going down that hill also meant up Grove Hill and Honeymooon hill. Good pick up of speed through the middle mile to stretch out the legs. The half-marathon runners are ready for a couple rest days before heading downtown to the starting line. 5 elite runners took to the pavement with an out&back route on Coalfield. With a easy and route, all energy went to planning the next great CSAUP. Option 1: Teams of 3 gather for a run & bike relay from Williamsburg to Richmond on the Capital Trail (50 miles) Option 2: Teams of 5 gather for a run & bike relay up Skyline Drive (120 miles) Option 3: Something similar but more stupid, like 500 miles stupid. We agreed to do them all, in order. So… who else is up for the challenge?
