  • 2024 HR Derby – errr – Burpee Derby

22 men showed up at Huguenot Little League to show their best Ohtani and Judge impersonations – only 6 men were successful in hitting the ball out of the park, and only 1 man (Orange Crush) left the yard twice. Congrats to OC on winning the 2024 HR Derby and congrats to the PAX for doing well over 100 Burpees, among other exercises. Maybe next year, Outs will equal APDs?

We assembled in right field for some COP and light calisthenics and warm-up, and also to collect names for the batting order. Directions were given – 3 Swings, anything other than a HR is an Out, each Out = 3 Burpees for the fielders and a lap for the batter, each HR deletes a lap for the batter and allows the batter to choose a substitute exercise for the fielders. Then it was time for the main event.

A lot of 3-out = 9 burpee performances, unfortunately, but I guess it makes us stronger. And, resulted in the end of the batting order barely being able to swing. Crabgrass, Rudy, 3 Doors Down, McRib and Meatball each launched 1 HR. OC launched 2. Those guys graced us with merkins and squats instead of Burpees.

We cleaned up, dusted off, and returned to the Flag for COT, numbers, names, announcements and prayers. YHC took us out with thanks for the ability to be kids again this morning.

Only 1 announcement – James River Float – August 11 – see slack for details

Naked Moleskin:.sometime the hardest thing seems to be just getting up. I’ve thought about how f3 makes me just a little less lazy. How the barrier to just pick up something your dropped when your you’re fit or work on a relationship is slightly smaller. You have the energy to do the small things and that adds up to being able to do the big things. My friend Maria was at church this Sunday after having her abdomen sliced open and her insides moved around in a seek and destroy mission for the cancer that is llaguing her body. She was able to do this because she was firA friend Andy Rice ambled into church this Sunday half leaning but by himself one step in front of the other. He did that because it was his habit. At F3 our mission through fitness faith and fellowship is the invigorate male community leadership. We exercise our 3Fs because it reduces the barriers when things get hard ..Surround yourself with people who have the same goals as you. rise together. ============

  • Participation trophies for everyone!

20 F3RVA HIM’s converged at the lush fields of NoToll to play Ultimate Frisbee this morning. Making four 5-man teams playing a couple games simultaneously was briefly considered, then scrapped for a bigger field with bigger teams.

Thugs sat it out still nursing an injury but getting some fine reps and stretches in while the rest of us battled it out on Field 1. Bromance was our only injury today, after maintaining a lethal presence on the field, he felt something snap in his calf so took the rest of the time to stretch with Thugs. OC then ditched his fluorescent penny and defected to Labrat’s team, where they went on a 4 TD streak to pull back into the lead. (We all know OC is the secret sauce.)

Notable disc vets were OC, DK, Snuff and Labrat who maintained a very steady presence in the field with (nearly) perfect throws, while we saw Rudy, Warby, Handshake, and Machismo dominate the end zones – both on offense and defense. Also when Labrat teamed up with Dealer and/or Snip short fast play TD’s happened quickly!

Honorable mentions to L Woods, Fandango, McRib, and Dry Rub – these guys staying moving and snatching the entire game!

Kudos to our other Respect Players – Scram getting in there to make plays and not getting re-injured, Rodeo Clown showing surprising agility and sticky fingers, and Mr Roper making smart short plays in the mid-field.

Both teams played very well, but Team Labrat won 9-8 in the final minutes. Looking forward to a re-match this Thursday at Timberwolf! Yours AYE! ~DTH

One year ago, YHC showed up to NoToll as an FNG for a Mudslide beatdown on the summer tour. It was an honor to lead the 17 PAX today to celebrate an F3 trip around the sun! According to the future FNG running laps by himself around the NoToll fields, this is what went down:

NMS: It is truly an honor to lead today and YHC is incredibly grateful for the men of F3RVA who have pushed me to be a better husband, father, and leader over this past year. The PAX has encouraged me in numerous workouts, challenged my spiritual development within the shield lock, carried my burdens through the long night of GTE, and rallied around my family in comfort through the loss of an unborn child. We are the cure for the male loneliness epidemic in our country and I am excited for many more years to come!

  • Male Tribal Leadership

9 Hims circled their sixes around the glorified fields of No Toll. We all came expecting some Gumbo and all we got was some cheese. We had three OG virgins in Rudy, Blue Moon, and Coin Toss. On the Q sheet Blue Moon and YHC found room to enter our names and numbers for the OG but something seems off on this sheet. If someone else knows of an old Glory tally sheet please post on slack.

I’m thankful for the expansion of my tribe through F3 and encourage others to go out and find theirs.

Prayers for Maria who just got out of an invasive surgery to eradicate cancer yesterday. For Wildcat going in for scans to manage his stage 4 lung cancer. For Huton’s sister who’s cancer returned. I encourage everyone to find their tribe and then circle their wagons around those people. Lift eachother up.

For those who can looks like June 24th is Wildcat Q at the Alamo.

  • Unidentified Flying Objects

14 not 15 disc hucking studs whet the fields of No Roll and one left his sole in the turf. No seriously,

Snip ran right out of the bottom half of his cleats.

    Naked Moleskin:

Throwing around UFO makes me think a bit of supernatural things. I believe that we live not in a natural world with supernatural events but in a supernatural world suppressed.  We see only what the light illuminates. As a Christian I reflect on these two passages:

John 8:12  I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

Psalm 18:27-29  You rescue the humble, but you humiliate the proud.  You light a lamp for me The LORD, my God, lights up my darkness.  In your strength I can crush an army; with my God I can scale any wall.

I want to recognize two people that are facing challenges right now.  The first is my Friend Maria.   Maria has desmoplastic small round cell tumors a type of sarcoma that develops in the connective tissue of the body. She goes to NY today for testing in preparation for a future surgery to take place there. They will analyze the effectiveness of the chemotherapy she has undergone.  Our prayer is that cancer has receded from her liver.

Second, is for my nephew Bollywood (Josiah Renes).  Who spent his first night in accommodations provided by the US Military.  My prayer is that he will grow in his faith and he will expand his limits.

  • Just Enough Coverage

11 SOJ Titans emerged for the ideal conditions that presented us this morning. After some brief salutations and greetings, we were off to enjoy the treats that the finest fields in Chesterfield had to offer.

Circle up on the plush turf for introductions and disclaimers, followed up by a brief warm up that included SSH, DQ, Helis, Jazzercise, LBC, Dead Bugs, Merkins and Superman (with vocal harmonies). Let us begin the THANG

Mosey to behind the dumpsters to collect the long neglected coupons. Find a few of your closest compadres for a triple check. Round 1 bench press, wiper merkins (these sucked) while timer runs a loop around the 4 islands. Round 2 included curls for the girls, rows with timer running out and back. Return coupons to the resting place.

Mosey to the wooden post for Indigenous Pole Smokers. PAX holds legs 6″ while a selected person performs 5 Pole Smokers and runs to the next available pole. Continue to the end of the line.

100’s (or some numbers). Line up at the wood line of the fields. Brocode mosey under the pavilion where designated PAX member calls out an exercise and # of reps. 1st to complete said number announces their success and releases the PAX to continue running across the opposite field and earns the honor of announcing the next exercise. Exercises included 50 dips, 40 incline merkins, 50 groiners, 30 WWII’s, 40 squats.

Slow (non Doozy) Mosey back to the flag for 40 seconds of plank. Numbers, Names, Announcements, Prayers. SOJ Fiesta at Casa de DTH tonight. Buttery Nipples and Purple Hooters a plenty. Prayers to Machismo and props for recognizing an upcoming issue early enough to take control. Prayers to DTH as his M’s family works thru some health issues. YHC took us out.

NMS: Good group of No Toll regulars enjoyed the plush non moist fields. Conditions were ideal for Ultimate but YHC had other plans. Title applies to those that attended. Well done fellas, great work this morning.

  • Who doesn’t love a good skinny dip?!

15 SOJ HIM’s including one FNG (who was EH’d over the weekend by GTE Cadre Flight Nurse) shook off the weekend soreness at NoToll with a slightly slower paced beatdown, as follows:

    The THANG:

    WARMERAMA:

    • Mosey onto the BBall Court and circle up
    • Welcome & Disclaimer
    • Variable IC Reps to get the muscles warm top to bottom, lots of groaning
    • The number 18 was utilized to honor the 18 RVA PAX who completed GTE #47

    Q-SCHOOL – Part 1:

    • Brief explanation and demonstration of how to call cadence, then FNG Will Myers was invited to Q some reps – which he did admirably (we didn’t know at the time he just got out of the Marine Corps 2 years ago)
    • AAR (After Action Report) was provided by the PAX

Mosey out to Pay the Toll at the Bridge – questionably dead copperhead in the road – decided to just keep moseying – No Toll today…

    BUDDY LADDER:

    • Partner up in front of the bleachers, complete x10 Buddy WWII’s, P1 runs across field and back, P2 remains for Bleachers Step-ups, then partners complete x9 WWII’s, P2 runs & P1 remains, etc. down to 1.
    • ABC’s for the SIX
    • Circle up in Plank and review the F3 Mission, Credo, and 5CP’s
    • Mosey over to the pavilion

    Q-SCHOOL – Part 2:

    • DTH demonstrates calling x18 squats IC
    • BROMANCE invited to take the Q, and guided to lead the PAX in Merkins then in Arm Circles
    • AAR provided – he’s a natural and will do his VQ very soon!

    CATCH ME IF YOU CAN:

    • Partner up
    • P1 lunges, P2 does x5 Mericans then bear crawls to catch ip and switch
    • Circumnavigate the pavilion

    1/2 CAPTAIN THOR:

    • 1:4 of WWII and Am.Hammers
    • Reps up to 5:20

    Mosey BTTF for COT:

    • Counterama # 15
    • Namerama
    • Announcerama (see Below)
    • YHC took the PAX out in Prayer

NMS:  There were a good number of our GTE graduates in attendance today, all of us walking and moving a bit stiffly, but the reps got everyone limbered up OK. A big welcome to SKINNY DIP, who was EH’d by the GTE Cadre over the weekend. He’s a couple years out of the Marine Corps and spoke candidly that he hadn’t felt this brotherly camaraderie since being with his USMC brothers, and had been missing sorely. He had a great story of being a competitive swimmer and forgetting to tie his suit before leaping into a college pool in front of thousands of spectators – and having to get out of the pool totally naked, on film, etc. Well, we are honored to have you in our PAX and you did an AWESOME job on the QSchool challenge. Just do all the guys a favor and keep your suit on! 🙂 Bromance equally shined on calling cadence and plans to do his VQ in the next few weeks! SOJ is on FIRE and we’re not anywhere close to slowing down. LET’S GO!!! ~DTH

    Announcements (SEE SLACK!)

    • Friday PM Machismo hosting a BYO firepit debrief for all the GTE guys to share war stories
    • Next Tuesday (5/14) all of SOJ invited to DTH’s house for a 2nd F patio party

    Prayer Requests:

    • Scram’s mom in hospice
    • Chaplain’s shoulder healing
    • NTB alone weekends this month
    • Doozy’s daughter travel safety
  • Is Something Happening This Weekend?

I’m not sure if you’re aware, but it’s GTE week. YHC noticed yesterday that the Q-sheet was open so the spot was claimed with the intention of having a lower-RPM beatdown with this weekend in mind. Nonetheless, today’s NTB beatdown had all the signature trademarks: confusion, over-exertion of one muscle group (holy quads), an epic playlist, and a couple of good laughs.

0530 hot start with five suicides on the basketball courts, followed by a classic warmarama circle, all to the catchy beat of Epic Sax Guy. Several comments were made about dentist office waiting rooms and elevators, but deep down the PAX knows they’re growing to love it.

    COP #1: Blackjack Quadriceps

    • Shuttle back and forth from baseline to baseline for ascending squats and descending lunges totaling up to 21! Like 7s or 11s but worse.

COP #2: Grand Slam Four Corners

    • The idea was decent, the explanation needed improvement. We got it on the second rendition. Each corner is the same movement, but the box gets larger with each round. In future beatdowns the travelling portion between corners can be more challenging which would make the whole circuit better. Today we mosied around.
    • Corner 1: (5) merkins
    • Corner 2: (5) WWIIs
    • Corner 3: (5) Cruncy Frogs
    • Corner 4: (5) Flutter Kicks
    • We went through the 16 corners a second time, performing one burpee at each corner.

Finished with (10) Eskimo Merkins and then returned back to the flag for numbers, names, announcements, and prayer requests.

All PAX are invited to the Friday evening GrowRuck rally on Friday night! Come out for a unique 2nd-F event with the region.
