  • River run duo

Good lord. Running with Doozy is tough, but that’s what makes it great. Put in 5.66 miles today at 8:45/min pace (5 min of OT).

This was the route I cooked up on the fly: https://onthegomap.com/s/liej8iug

Praise for Doozy’s 2.0 starting a career in Charleston, SC. Prayers for all our friends and family celebrating the birthday of America this week (don’t blow off your hand or drive drunk please).

  • Butt Kicked

Sauna like conditions at Bettie Weaver Elementary School……..and with Doozy and the young guns pushing the pace, YHC was in a fight to survive. Here is an extremely brief summary for your viewing pleasure:

Ran on the paved trail through Robious Landing Park, then back out towards JRHS. Access trail behind The Swamp to River Downs. Left back up to Robious Road. Up Twin Team until you hit the intersection with Robious. Back to the Flag.

Final Thoughts: A few us had to hold down the fort at River Run, but thoughts were with Wildcat and his birthday celebration. His speech at the Grow Ruck was a bright spot for me amongst multiple hours of misery. Tough conditions this morning…………….I had contemplated enjoying a fine glass of merlot last night. Definitely glad I passed that one up!

  • What’s the Rollercoaster again

4 swift of feet headed out for Week 2 of the River Run return. With the goal of reminding the PAX of the regular River Run routes after last week’s OG, this week was the Rollercoaster. For those that need a refresher – 4 mile is out to Robious, left on Riverdowns South Drive, Left on Queens Grant Drive, right at the top of the hill on Royal Crest Drive, turnaround at the Riverdowns South Drive and reverso. 5 milers add the loop around the school at the beginning of the end. More than 5, continue past Riverdowns S Drive to the former casa de Gumbo or further.

A pleasure to return to this as an official AO and chase Doozy up and down the hills. Looking forward to some alternative slower recovery day options in the not to distant future.

Next Monday – 6/24 Alamo for Wildcat Bday Q

July 4th convergence at Batteau, 7am

Lots of other things on the agenda for Summer – keep an eye on Slack for more info

  • Resurrection of River Run

Five runners found their way to Bettie Weaver for the kickoff of River Run.

The route – good old fashioned OG run which is the Ashwell loop, up and across Robious and down Twin Team. That’s the 4 mile route, 5 milers add a loop around the high school.

Great to have a solid 5 out for the initial run, though it sounds like Doozy never stopped from the previous shutdown of the AO. YHC had buried the memory of those hills and was painfully reminded this morning. Thanks to Upchuck for the conversation.

Hope to see more join us next week.

  • Welcome FNG Noah

1 pax sailed forth into the Fort Lauderdale Gloom for the latest edition of The Clinic. Temperatures were 70 and sunny. According to the zoo keeper building a wooden boat, the following route might have been taken.

Route: the usual. No stop outbound. Rest stop inbound. A smidge over 5 miles.

NMS: holy cow. The rain did rain on Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale. It was awesome. Perfect temperature and just the right amount of rain to cool things off. There were, oddly, more than the normal level of puddles. So, YHC ran (mostly) around them. Got wet. No biggie.

By Wednesday evening, just crazy flooding. Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink. Epic. Apparently, a 1,000 year storm.

Airport closed and completely flooded runways. Highways in that area all closed. Beaches closed. Ocean even flooded. Luckily, The Clinic apparently knows enough to have been built on high ground.

No sign of the boat builder or his animals.

  • Lost in Terrington

YHC decided to start out on a Terrington route but needed to use the facilities at Robious Landing first.

Took a wrong turn somewhere before Ashwell and hit almost every dead end in the neighborhood, eventually YHC decided to just walk the rest of it. Found Ashwell headed out to Twin Team and BTTF

  • Straight no Chaser

YHC alone with his thoughts this morning while running the rough streets of northeast Midlothian. As soon as YHC got out of his truck the haunting call of an Owl on the hunt came from 1 tree over. With the skies being over cast and the mornings staying dark longer it just seemed to be extra dark this morning.

While hanging out with Gypsy and Kristen this weekend YHC might have accidentally signed up for another half in October so River Run will have to be a run again instead of a ruck to get in shape.

5:30 and no extra cars in the parking lot, route was down to the river back up through JRHS then OG Roller Coaster (one of YHCs favorites because it puts the big hill in the middle) back through JRHS. No gas in the tank to go back down to the river finished at 6:15 walked around BWES to cool down.

    NMS:

As YHC was finishing up the walk around BWES there was a lady parked by the drainage area where the farel cats live, she was feeding them. YHC always finds it hard to understand people who think they need to feed wild animals. Yes, these cats may have started out in a home but they have become self dependent and her feeding them is going to hurt them in the long run if she dies or moves before they do.

  • A Hilly Takeout

A Davillian and SOJer enjoyed a run that for at least one of us was just a normal run.

    ROUTE

    L onto James River Rd
    R onto Riverton Ridge Dr
    L onto Welby Dr
R onto Hawell Ct (wrong turn, turn back)
    L onto Chatwell Rd
    Merge onto Henlow Dr
    R onto Wilcot Dr
    R onto Ashwell Dr
Cross over Robious into cut through for Powderham Ln
    L onto Twin Team
Cross back over Robious onto Jamer River Rd
Finish with a few laps in the parking lot to get just over 4 miles

    MOLESKIN

Nice run with Doozy this morning. YHC had planned to run the “Rollercoaster Route” (or what YHC called the Old Gumbo house route) but Doozy wanted to show YHC something new. We only missed a turn once which Doozy new would happen. Felt good to start the week off with a run again!

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Coming in, as I’m going out

Solo Ruck was on tap for River Run this morning. As I was heading out at 5:15 my (adult) daughter was coming in (an issue to be discussed with her later) but it lead YHC to contemplate my young adult life vs my expectations for my young adult child.

Route was from BWES to the river through the woods and back to BWES. YHC does not have a fancy watch that tells him what the distance is but YHC got back in the truck at 6:30 so it must have been between 2.5 to 3 miles????

Prayed the for forgiveness, strength and wisdom the entire Ruck so I guess we could say YHC took us out

    NMS:

We train up our children in the way that they should go but there are times when they get off track. It’s at these times when we have to remember that we wandered off the track as well. You want your children to learn from your mistakes but there are some mistakes they have to make themselves in order for them to grow, you give them the information to make wise decisions but what they do with that information is now up to them and you need to let go, Doozy, let go.

  • Double the pleasure …

With other River Run regulars posting at bootcamps this morning, YHC had the AO to himself today.

Down to the Swap, over to Robious, hard left and up the Twin Team hill x 2, then BTTF

Quick prayer and on to the day!
