Good to have some company this morning, though thoughts of a “solo Q” crossed YHC’s mind when First Watch Captain Kubota let YHC know he wouldn’t be able to make it this week.

    Things YHC learned this morning:

    • Honeydo chooses his car in the morning based on which one of the four actually starts.
    • Handshake can hyper-extend his knees 3 or 4 times and keep on plugging away.
    • Splinter must have known we’d find the tall grass and possibly some ticks this morning, so he made sure to shave his….

YHC arrived first to secure the AO.  UpChuck came next and greeted YHC saying “Most Improved Smell.”  No idea what to make of the comment, YHC gave the armpits a quick sniff before realizing UC was referring to Hardywood’s Saturday superlatives.  Thanks?  Handshake, fresh from the California Penal League, arrived third followed by the rest of the PAX, then Probation at 6:11.  First 3 got dibs on Q, Handshake started us off with some classics, UpChuck did his Harvard thing, YHC kept it simple with the lesser known John Denver tune Take Me Home Burpee Road.

Turns out YHC’s directions were too clear, so the 6’s opted to complicate the route just a hair and turn left on Horsepen, add a turn or two, then re-emerge on Westham.  Splinter can nearly fill a bucket with lost water weight.  As the PAX stood around comparing Joe Biden’s best chances of winning in November to Weekend at Bernie’s, Saab’s proctologist ran by and said hello.  Somehow, he knew Saab by face as well.  Naturally, the conversation took a turn and many a laugh was had as we pondered how one decides on that career trajectory and what a typical day is like.

  • Evaporating Sweat

Three gloom vets opted for the seemingly harder north to south loop, while the albino deer launched from Reedy Creek and meandered through the hills of Tennessee. Fudd traveled across the country in search of humidity. He found it. Apparently when you sweat in Colorado you cool off and you’re still dry. Not how it works in good old RVA. At least here it’s always sunny and 70. Have a blessed Father’s Day to all the men of F3RVA.

  • 8AM Breakfast Club?

    8AM Breakfast Club?

Ten of RVA’s finest did extra credit before and after DogPile to earn their breakfast, about 4 miles to be exact. Mr. Thompson said “FU, our bacon is off limits before 8am.” Mr. Thompson now has a big black X on his corporate file.

YHC gave detailed, clear and concise directions, though according to TYA the most words spoken by YHC in 3 months.  Roughly 3 of the 7 PAX followed those directions.  All returned to the shovel flag on time.  Call it a win.  The theme of the morning was what’s next.  After a 5k, it’s a 10k, after a 10k, 10 miles, half marathon, or in TYA’s case Tennessee and possibly Virginia.  Whatever the next goal might be, once that’s done, just keep running, there really is no finish line.  Enjoyed discussing the Manning/ Brady charity golf match with Swirly along the way.

Not mentioned this morning, but YHC’s dad is having fairly extensive surgery in a couple of weeks, prayers welcomed.

  • Stars and Stripes

Four runners moseyed to DogPile, five moseyed back. Great idea by Flatline to bring out the shovel flag, a tradition that’s fallen off a bit. Felt great to carry it with pride as we remember the ultimate sacrifice that was paid so we are free to run as we please.

Two takers of the red pill returned to find out what would be unlocked by ingesting the blue pill.  Honeydo promoted the affair, but then fartsacked.  No word yet to his whereabouts.  Good to have LJ out.  Kubota prefers the blue pill.  The green pill next week is 45 minutes of bear crawl, wondering if Kubota will show.  Handshake enjoys the mystery of the gloom, but seeing the sun rise during a workout adds a little something extra.
