  • The Triple – Triple

Nine strong made it to HBR on another perfect morning. We did:

COP at Pemberton ES: SSH, Russian Soldiers, Don Qs, Flutterkicks, Merkins, Scorpion kicks.

Triple Check: HRMs, WWIIs, run the loop. Over to far lot of PES. 3 rounds of: 25 Donkey Kicks, Bear Crawl width of lot, 25 Jump Squats & run back.

Mosey to Jerkin Gym for another Triple check: Jerkins, hold jerkiner, & Pickle pouders. Some groups really overthought this.

Over to namesake hill: Up, 10 WWIIs, back down & 5 burpees. 2 more rounds, increasing by 5 on the 2nd one. Mosey back to flag for few Flutterkicks then out. Atilla took us out.

Announcements: Memorial Day Murph at Dogpile with various sub-locations to keep numbers smaller. Also prayers for DTH and send him an email if you can.

NMS: Another week and another Spider Run regular regular converted to the West End’s best AO as Upchuck joined us. Also great to have Hank Hill back out along with P-trap. Way more mumblechatter than usual this morning, as things start to seem closer to normal.

The fuzz is keeping an eye on the PAX but seems like we are abiding the rules well. YHC wanted to dole out a lot of Jerkins for some proper arm work but avoid a mutiny like last week at Hoedown. Our group of Pucker, Lighthouse, and YHC got after it along with Atilla, P-trap, and Hank Hill. Not sure what the other 3 were doing.

The sunrise around 6 was just beautiful. With people wanting to get back to outside, good weather, and no school to get home to now is a perfect time to EH those FNGs. We even have some good FNG names lined up for them.

  • 75th anniversary of V-E Day

5 faithful came out to perfect spring weather for a beatdown. The Q asked if anyone knew what day it was in history, no PAX answered so we got after it:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Russian Soldiers, Merkins, Flutterkicks, 5 burpees.

Head to endline of field: run width of field, 5 burpees, run back, 5 burpees. Repeato x3, running total 35 burpees. Head down to stadium entrance, 5 more burpees.

Unveiling of DonkeyHumpers: 15 Donkey Kicks & 10 Pickle Pounders. 3 rounds. 5 more burpees. 15 more high & slow donkey kicks. 5 more burpees. Up to BWES field, 10 more burpees.

Over to playground: 3 sets of 8 pullups. 5 burpees. Alternate Bear crawl & lunge across field. back across side lunge & bear crawl. 5 more burpees.

Over to bus loop of BWES for Dora 123: 100 merkins, 200 jump squats, 300 LBCs. Mosey back to flag for 1 min of mary and 5 last burpees giving us 75 total. YHC took us out.

NMS: What better way to remember V-E day than 75 burpees during the beatdown. We had 3 PAX at 5:29 but then Mr Holland and PeeDee arrive to give us a solid 5 pax.

Starting off with runs & 30 burpees after the COP got the juices flowing. Doozy and Probation made it look easy. The PAX can thank Doublemint for the DonkeyHumpers, although after his suggestion on slack chose the fartstack this morning.

Probation shared with YHC his absence in the gloom was from his visiting a monastery recently. Apparently PeeDee’s super power is bear crawl – he was almost done with the whole field before we could switch to lunges.

YHC has been taking advantage of the stay-at-home time to watch documentaries with the 2.0s. After finishing a 10 hour series on WWII it is always inspiring what our grandparents went through and good lesson for us today on what courage looks like. And for anyone looking for a Q idea (boberry) V-J day is not too far off.

  • Reintroducing partner work to some varied success

An even 8 came out to Hoedown to see if Honeydo would show up to Q this week. Perfect spring weather for a beatdown:

COP: SSH, Russian Soldiers, Helicopters, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion kicks.

Mosey to the 3rd Dark lot for 4 corners: 10 burpees, 20 Merkins, 30 Reverse Crunch, 40 SSHs. Over to 3rd back lot, Partner up – Broad jump burpee length of lot – alternating. 2nd round – Polar bear.

Over to main lot: Lindsays of Carolina Dry Docks & Jump Squats. Over to TES blacktop- Partner up again for Wheelbarrow across & back. Head up to school field for attempt at Chazz Michael Michaels. Mutiny ensued and audible was called. Change up to 3 rounds of: 30 Donkey kicks, run across & 10 burpees.

Down to Triple check loop. Partner up for 4 rounds of 1 man runs loop while other doing 1 legged LBCs. Finish up with some Heels2 Heaven. YHC took us out.

NMS: More light and warmer temperatures in the gloom in May. Good to have 8 strong, although when Doozy and Last Call arrived with only Upchuck and YHC we were on the verge of a mini-SOJ takeover. Pucker ran in to the AO and was so sweaty nobody wanted to partner with him.

YHC wanted to do some partner work of limited sorts and when Wheelbarrows were called the PAX took it on with vigor. Not so much when the Chazz Michael Michaels were called. Maybe YHC should have tried for Jerkins over near the gym instead. We do need to figure out how to get some arm work in the gloom somehow. Oh well good to try new things out when Q’ing. Hopefully YHC made up for his Q fail last week.

  • Tempting the rain

4 Circus regulars came out to see if the rain would hold off until at least 6:15. With KBs in hand to ground the PAX from the 40 mph winds we did:

COP: SSH, Imperial Walkers, Helicopters, Merkins, LBCs, Scorpion Kicks

Mosey away from shelter to back road for some time on the wall: Donkey kicks, bear crawl across then: 15 lawnmower pulls each arm, 40 KB Swings, 10 Sit N Press. Mosey over to field behind school for some Catch me if you can: 1 man takes 2 KBs and carries while other does 10 merkins then catches up. 2 laps of this. 3rd round: Lunge with KBs while other does 15 merkins then Crab Walks to catch up.

Back to normal spot: Boat & Canoe, Swings, Pullovers, Sit N Press, then run a lap. More swings and snatches then another lap. Back to flag.

NMS: Can’t believe rain held off during the whole beatdown. We stayed away from the covered bus loop area and took on the heavily aerated field in the back. Nobody questioned lunging across the open field with metal KBs in hand with a storm ready to break open any second.

Atilla asked whether this would be a 35 Lb KB friendly workout, not sure what that means but guessing this worked. Good to be back out at the Circus after a hiatus.

  • Triple – triple checks

3 early riser veterans weighed their options before 5:00 and took advantage of the triplet of pax. To start:

Kubota Q: COP – SSH, Imperial Walkers, Don Qs, WWIIs, Merkins. Mosey back to KB drop spot for Triple Check: High pulls, KB Swings, & run the parking lot loop.

EF Hutton Q: Triple check #2 – Lying KB Presses, Boat & Canoe, & Run the lot. Head to end of lot: Bear Crawl length of parking lot.

Honeydo Q: Cross street over to RRC(b) for Triple check #3: Burpees, LBCs, & run to tree and back. Head to side of church: 3 sets of 20 Donkey Kicks, bear crawl across width, & 10 HRMs. Back to flag for bit of mary then done.

Announcements: Lots of Virtual Zoom opportunities for 1 & 2 Fs.

NMS: Kubota gave YHC the deciding vote whether to put in a good 15 minutes at FW then head over to WDog or stay at the AO for the full 45 minutes. YHC chose to stay put as to not mess with the nap schedule.

3 rounds of triple checks will eat up most of the beatdown. YHC enjoyed the 60+ yard bear crawl. Not sure why EF Hutton stopped and gave YHC the lead as he is a strong bear crawler. Kubuta did NOT enjoy the long bear crawl.

Good morning to be out and we the First Watch PAX did get a few early rays of the rising sun as we were finishing up. Brighter earlier days are ahead (literally and figuratively) for RVA.

  • Soggy Prison cell at WDog

5 turned in to 6 veterans came out on an unpleasant morning – 39 degrees and soggy. 3 of the PAX are normal First Watch attendees but Kubota earned himself a well deserved day off so we took over WDog.

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Helicopters, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey to tennis courts (watch out for well marked curbs) for some time in the Prison cell:

Each PAX grabs a half a tennis court. 4 rounds of 2 exercises on the court:

    Round 1: HRMs & V-Ups.

    Round 2: 20 Jump Squats & 10 Heels2Heaven

    Round 3: 20 Mtn Climbers & 10 WWIIs

Round 4: 10 Tuck Jumps & 15 Caronlina Dry Docks

    Round 5: 5 Burpees & 5 more burpees

Mosey to Carillon: 3 Sets of SD Boo-yeah Merkins & mary. Finish back at flag with ROF. YHC took us out.

NMS: YHC had wanted to drop another tax day 4/15 themed beatdown on the PAX but with the deadline extended until 7/15 it just didn’t feel right so why not reprise the Prison cell workout on the tennis courts.

Swirly took a spill (aka battled the pavement) on the mosey to the tennis courts. Had YHC known the courts were that soggy we might have gone somewhere else but it was a long way to get there. Pretty sad to see the nets off the courts 🙁

The PAX knocked out the 5 rounds in short order although the last round of 40 burpees did manage to elicit some groans from the PAX. The Tuck Jumps were new for Elbow Bump – we need to do more of those.

The Boo-yeah merkins at the the Carillon bottom felt great – appropriate distance but similar to normal F3 with ample mumblechatter. YHC could tell Hardywood has been missing Boo-yeahs in the gloom.

EF Hutton showed off his new ride, apparently he has an endorsement deal with Honda. Prayers for Kubota as he put down his dog yesterday.

  • HBR keeping Spider Run legal

6 HBR stalwarts and 2 Spider Run regulars made it an even eight on a perfect spring morning. We did:

COP in fueling area: Invisible Jump Rope, Don Qs, Russian Soldiers, HRMs, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey to DK wall for Dora 123:

100 HRMs, 200 Jump Squats, 300 Donkey Kicks. Runner goes length of blacktop and back. Atilla gave us a textbook 20 Count.

Over to covered area for Totem Pole Smokers: Hold 6 inches & last man does 5 Heels2Heaven. Then over to benches in front of school. 3 Sets of: 20 Dips, 10 Box Jumps, & 15 Derkins. Down to Heartbreak Hill. 3 times up, 10 V-Ups, 5 Jump Squats at the bottom. Back to flag for some sequential mary – American Hammers, APDs, Pickle Pounders.

Announcements & YHC took us out.

NMS: Another week another Spider Run regular makes his way out to Heartbreak Ridge. Today was unintentional as EF Hutton’s car was hit yesterday so he ran to the nearest AO which happened to be Heartbreak Ridge, aye.

Lots of groans on the Dora about the 300 Donkey Kicks. The Dora did take up a good while. The DK wall has just enough space for 4 sets of men on the wall in a safe distance range so might as well use it up. YHC was planning on another prison cell time on the tennis courts but with 8 PAX and only 3 full courts the audible to Dora was the call.

Mumblechatter centered on the lack of Dogpile backblast as of this morning at 5:29 am. Probation is living up to his name but YHC is sure he is working on a Marv’esque masterpiece. Still Probation might find out that his Corporate File is already overflowing when he learns that the Corporate file does indeed exist.

  • Gridiron goes to Prison

A perfectly legal 10 PAX came out to Gridiron expecting rain. Instead we got perfect weather. Here is how it went:

Ample Distance COP: SSH, Russian Soldiers, Don Qs, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey over to Pickle Ball courts:

Pax take a half of pickle ball court for Prison Cell workout. 4 sets of each exercise with runs and Peoples chair in between

1st Round: 4 sets of 20 Jump Squats, 15 Merkins.

    2nd Round: 10 WWIIS, 15 2ct Mountain Climbers

    3rd Round: 20 Carolina Dry Docks, 15 Heels2Heaven

4th Round: 20 Ball Dippers, 20 Pickle Pounders

    5th Round: 5 Burpees & 5 Burpees

Back to football field – Full field suicide, then bear crawl to mid field then run rest, repeato. Down to bottom field: 4 sets of 5 Pullups.

NMS – There was talk of splitting the PAX as we had 10 and wondered if 1 more would how, 7:00 came and we had the legal limit 10 PAX. The pickle ball courts divided everyone up to appropriate distance. The overall sets and rounds took up most of the time. Glad Chum was there to enjoy the prison cell time.

Welcome FNG Gremlin, son of Pinto, who put in solid work. Atilla is well into his playoff beard. Fireman Ed looks to be back to 100% after his injury recovery.

  • OTB – Rucking style

3 PAX took to the trail loop under weight. Proper distancing was observed by ruckers but not by everyone else on the trails. Great Mumblechatter and time this morning. Shakedown needs to take the time at home to start his book about his 20s – put me down for an advanced order.

  • Nothing gets the numbers up like a Quarantine

Eight PAX came out HBR wondering if a St. Patty’s Day theme was in store. Actually most pax forgot what day it is but we stayed safe and found a beatdown:

COP: Wider distance of SSH, Don Qs, Russian Soldiers, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks – real ones that loosen your back up

Mosey to the Honeysuckle hill for 11s: Burpees at top, WWIIs at the bottom. Head over to Donkey Kick Wall for: 4 rounds of: Donkey Kicks, run blacktop, HRMs. Increase #s each round. Down to the Jerkin Gym.

4 Sets of 8 Jerkins. Circle up for some Mary then 2 times up Heartbreak hill with Jumpsquats at top and WWIIs at bottom. Back to flag. Safe Space COT and out.

NMS: YHC received a lot of grief from the other regulars (Atilla & Handshake) since his attendance at the home AO has been sparse with the winter tour. It was good to be back.

It was great to see Howler out with his dad. Not a bad idea to get kids out of the house and tire them out in a supervised manner. Ronnie seemed to love the Scorpion Kicks. Pucker’s knee was feeling sore so he opted for a good Bootcamp rather than his normal Spider Run.

YHC did the math in his head and Jerkins at the Jerkin Gym were reasonable distance partner work. Lots of mumblechatter on Pucker’s relative bone density. Probation, Garbage Plate, and Handshake set the pace. Stay safe all.
