  • Casual Stroll on the Grounds

5 Redwoods from various corners of the Near West End converged at RVA’s most exclusive AO for this week’s rendition of SCCC.

According to the fella doing wind sprints, and the other runner form training, here’s how it went down

  • Round and Round We Go

8 men gathered in the Misty gloom (with Gloom) to run to Short Pump Park where we ran around the loop while doing different exercises from Salt Lick’s huge cardboard Wiki. (Had to reduce the count by 50% after the first two exercises). Hit the 3 mile mark and gloom struggled a bit with the humidity. Prayers for Pinto’s colleague going through tough times.

  • Back to School

8 men got together on a gloomy misty morning to return to school. After warmup subjects were English: Alphabet with our feet, Science: Monkey Humpers, Bear Crawls, and Crabwalks, Math: 7’s, Gym with a simulated Presidents Physical Fitness and Dodgeball where Joey Chestnut had an epic “Elf” style hit; History: with the Bataan Death Crawl and some El Chapos, lunch break with Erkins, Durkins, and Tap Dances, and an unusually long Sex Ed class at the end. Prayers for healing and for brining the best version of ourselves foward.

  • Smells Like Phish

The bell rang and four … no, make that five … pax posted for the Monday gathering at Westhoe’s finest track complex.

    Tabata sets:

    • Stretching
    • Squats
    • L/R Lawnmowers
    • Overhead Press / Triceps Press
    • Dealer’s Choice / Wild Card
    • 4 Minutes of Mary

Bodos was a late arrival. I don’t think he arrived directly from his Vermont retreat / sabbatical, but he had many stories of life in the land of compost toilets (apparently there’s no designation for compost toilets on PortaDash, but Hitch is working on an update as I write … ). It sounded like either an AirBnB rental scam, a throwback hippie commune or a deeply mediocre camping trip, but Bodos claims it was part of some furniture-making deal where you can get a 20-year-old table refinished for like 20 bucks. It’s like L.L. Bean letting you send your clothes back when you’re tired of them. New Englanders … amirite, TYA?

Applesauce was wearing a Cleveland Cavaliers shirt the morning after they blew out Detroit in Game 7, so good for The Land. He and Faceplant traded tips about taking kids to the pool at Ginter Park. (Apparently a lot less expensive than the initiation fee at CCV.)

Someone left a frisbee on the track and it got picked up and thrown around during the cooldown laps. Turns out Bodos played Ultimate in college; his throws have that perfect flat spin I’ve never been able to master. Vermont eco-retreats, furniture-making collectives, Ultimate mastery … all we needed was a hacky sack and a Phish concert would have broken out.

  • Westhoe 2nd Tuesday, 2nd F Lunch

First time in 7/8 years YHC has been able to make it to a 2nd F lunch.

7 men gathered at Tres Machos – Innsbook and talked about real estate and other things. No problems of the world solved but several identified.

  • Pre-Field Day, On the Blacktop

Two studs, no duds, sprang to life and into the latest edition of The Hoedown. Temperatures remained 70 and sunny. According to the Espresso-to-Go-Go team setting up for Field Day, the following might have happened:

COP: Mosey around the larger parking lot, run the circle, and end up on the blacktop.

SSHs, Dead Man Hang, and various stretches. Work in some mercans, arm circles, helicopters, squats, and ab exercises, including all the wars (WWI, WWII, and American Civil War). Reminder: ACWs are a heels-to-Heaven rolling into a WWI.

Mosey to the – oh, YHC’s weird knee issue flared, so mosey more slowly – wall for people’s chair.

After a slight recovery, line up. Then, sprint to the first basketball hoop, do 5 mercans, and back to the start. 2nd hoop, 10 mercans. 3rd hoop, 15. 4th, 20.

Second round, LBCs, but do 10, 20, 30, and 40.

    Third round, monkey humpers. 10, 20, 30, 40.

Fourth round, side straddle hops, single count. 10, 20, 30, 40.

Walk it off…then mosey to the school wall for a self-administered triple check, including touch-a-tree.

People’s chair, run the loop, 25 LBCs, and touch three trees. Do this 3 times, OYO.

Slow-sy to the smaller parking lot. Grab a parking space. 3 mercans, 3 WWIIs, and 3 squats per space. Go halfway around.

Then, mosey to the bus circle, 4 loops, and BTTVSF.

Finish with 3 burpees…and then add 2 burpees, and then add 1 burpee to wrap it up.

Numbers, names, and YHC took us out.

NMS: 2 person workouts are great for mumble chatter and a good excuse to avoid counting in cadence. All numbers are unaudited.

Prayers for Charlotte and YHC’s grad school classmates (11 deceased in 25 years).

  • Monkey humpers near the Yard Sale

16 Pax regulars including a spirited young new regular went to Short Pump to workout and clean litter from last night’s workouts.

COP: DQs, jazzercise, merkins, arm circles, cherry pickers, freddies. Mosey to football field.

Cumulative go ten yards, do 10 of an exercise. Then 10 and 20 yards 20 exercises, 10, 20 and 30, 10, 20 30 and 40 and lastly 10, 20, 30,40 and 50. Exercises were merkins, WWIIs, 2 count mountain climbers, jump squats and SSHs.

Mosey to other side and repeato with 10 HRMs (50 total), 20 Irish hammers (80 total), 30 Carolina Dry docks (90 total), 40 squats (80 total) and 50 LBCs (50 total). 80 Irish hammers suc%s pretty bad.

Mosey to field next to yard sale. Dora with 50 burpees, 150 American hammers and 250 monkey humpers. I did not look at the yard sale to see if the patrons were admiring our monkey humper form. I did notice a number of more mature folk; that may be what Pigskin would be doing if he didn’t kick so much a#s. Mosey back to home base.

Triple check with balls to the wall, flutter kicks and a run around most of the parking lot. Finished with DQs, a dancing exercise suggested by Fire Chicken and Dead Man Hang.

Closed in prayer for Charlotte, Mary and those looking for work and/or suffering from the drought. I am told that Upchuck may be looking for a replacement for the Bridge. Coffeeteria was good as always. Thanks for letting me lead!

    Fireman Ed

  • It all makes sense now

Lively discussion about expansion and summer time workouts in pool lots – a vision for a log time awaiting execution. 6p workouts at pool lots using signs and next door to motivate the motivators – if we get the right mix of new regs, we migrate to another neighborhood and encourage mornings. Roger Roger will get us started.

  • Into the Bush -or- Senior day

Ten Terrible Trees beat the rush to get to the first workout of the day. According to our cycling friend aggressive and reliable to drive through our frolics, this is what went down, more or less.

YHC took us out. Prayers for the PAX. 2F at Starbucks.

NMS – 9 years ago today YHC started F3 and today is also the day YHC can get free coffee at McDs, and discounts at the finest retailers, except Starbucks apparently. As we assembled from our vantage, it seemed like Horneydo drove into the bush when he arrived, which the pax thought was a natural place for our favorite Ginger Redwood to be.

Mumble chatter throughout was on par, spilling into 2F, including a story about a FL based mother daughter dancing team and other local highlights for which one PAX downplayed eagerly taking notes. The value of higher education was discussed. Finally, we regaled in an interesting solution to Social Security insolvency as well as happy foretellings for our future.

Cannot express enough gratitude to the PAX that push each other. Iron Sharpens Iron.
