Ultimate Frisbee | Team 2 def. Team 1, 7-6
Team 1 (The Greatest Show on Turf): Crabgrass, Fandango, Rudy, Flyboy
Team 2 (The Patriots): Matlock, Pad Thai, Hei Hei, Da Bear, Festivus
Every so often a game shows up on the schedule that you’ve already seen before. February 2002. The Rams were the highlight reel, the fastest, flashiest offense anybody had ever put on turf. The Patriots were the guys who tackled you, took what you gave them, and never made a mistake. Everybody knew who was more fun to watch. Everybody knows who lifted the trophy.
Team 1 came out flying. Passes were crisp and moving down the field in a hurry. Rudy was going up and snagging everything above the rim. Fandango found the seams all morning, exactly what you expect from the 2025 BOS champ. Flyboy demanded coverage — they had to account for him on every single possession, and that opened things up for everyone else. YHC was dialed in on the throws early and the disc was going exactly where it was supposed to go.
Back and forth to 3-3. It felt like ours.
Then Team 2 did what Team 2 does. No fireworks. No hero ball. Just a smothering defense that closed every window a half-second before it opened, and an offense that took precisely what was in front of it and executed at damn near a flawless level. 5-3. Then 6-3.
We got one back to make it 6-4. They answered: 7-4.
The Iron Pax bill came due right about then. Week 1 was yesterday, all the running you’d expect, and YHC hit the wall square in the third quarter. Legs gone, lungs gone. But we found something — a big TD to pull us within one at 7-6, and suddenly the sideline believed again. Rudy was out there working himself into a genuine puke-shade of green, trying to be a downfield threat and then sprint back on defense. He was about one deep cut from redecorating the end zone.
The flurry came. We threw everything at it to tie it up. It fell short.
Moleskin
- Rudy’s win streak dies at 1. Matlock’s is born at 1. Circle of life.
- The roster sheet says five against four. Just noting it for the historical record, no further comment.
- Flyboy had a couple of drops he’s going to see when he closes his eyes tonight. He also made them cover him all day. Net positive, and the hands come back.
- Fandango fought valiantly right to the end. Champions don’t have a coast setting.
- Credit where it’s owed: Team 2 didn’t get lucky. They defended, they were patient, and they didn’t beat themselves. That’s the whole formula and it’s harder than it looks.
- Style points don’t go on the scoreboard. Ask the ’01 Rams.

Prayers and praises up. Grateful for everyone who posted the day after Iron Pax week 1 and still left it out there. Team 1 will be back. — Crabgrass out.
