  • Rain & Pain

Good temps, overcast, a persistent drizzle, nice. Four true gloom soldiers stumbled from their comfy beds, donned their garb, and set off for Rock n’ Roll seeking a challenge.

Quick mosey around the perimeter of Rockwood. We concluded our mosey at the tennis courts.

Andy Dufresne, helicopters, arm circles, dead man hang, cherry pickers, imperial squat walkers.

11s. Mosey across the tennis courts. Spiderman merkins and jump squats.

Mosey to the pavilion at the trailhead. Dora. Runner there and back. 100 merkins, 200 single-count flutters, 300 SSHs.

An attempt was made to run the entire Rockwood trail. Along the way we did some walking lunges up a hill, stopped at another pavilion for 50 dips and 30 step-ups, and ran some more. Eventually the PAX was routed by…the clock? Battle fatigue? We doubled back, found a cut through, and made it BTTF five minutes late. Sorry gents!

    Names, numbers, announcements.

YHC took us out. God is good, all the time. Thanks for Double Mint’s good news.

Pretty sure we clocked over four miles this morning fellas. Great effort! As always, my spirits were lifted by the fellowship of the PAX, from running and working alongside solid HIMs. Now I can chill in my sweatpants for the rest of the day and feel good about it. Thank you, guys, for coming out, and for letting me lead you. Until next time!

  • How many more Mudslide?

This is probably the most in a month I have led in ages. With my new work schedule, I can only do them later in the week unless a holiday falls where I get an extra day off. With tomorrow’s Muddy Dash plus next week it will be a good month. That said, 10 came out this morning for the final July beatdown from yours truly. The gear came out today, hard work plus body imprints where you can draw our outline Here we go….

A short run to the strip sign and back with a very short warm up(SSHs, Dead Man Hangs, Imperial Walkers Anna a couple of wives). Then to the main event… The idea was that a potential 15 but with 10, tweak things

–Battleropes, Jerkins, run.up to first house on left and back

–Mike Tyson w/ pull thrus, Side Wall Bal, tosses, run

–Sledgehammer, 4 count mountain climbers w/ plank jack, run

    –Tire slams, Banded squats, ru

–KB swings, Over the shoulder sandbag, run

Everyone first time thru did each spot, next rounds find something you like run to the stop sign. There was a thing where if you did not run, 100 jump ropes. The idea be quick run is the recovery back again. With about 6-8 minutes left, broga to close things. Numbers, names announcements and prayer led by YHC to close the morning.

Those at Muddy Dash tomorrow see you there, Enjoy the weekend

  • Coxswain?

It was a river tour at Twin Team this morning. The Q is kind of like the coxswain of the group? But I digress. Here is a very brief summary for your viewing pleasure.

Mosey through JRHS and Robious Landing Park, stopping at various location for warm up exercises. As noted in the Lounge bylaws, no count or cadence was required.

Near the dock we completed a triple check with double tap HR merkins, jump squats, and various running distances.

Followed the same route back, stopping for ab exercises including WWII sit ups, Flutter Kicks, Freddy Mercuries, LBC’s, Hello Dolly’s. Made it back at exactly 6:15.

Final thoughts: Excellent effort by the PAX this morning. Highlights included a Doozy/Last Call race, and Mr. Roper mocking us with a group of bike riders. Great coffee and conversation after the workout. As always, it was an honor to lead.

  • Run the Figure 8

6 men and 2 ruckers met on a glorious Friday am. The route a figure 8. Discussions of Marathon training and adventures to come were had. What a nice day for a run.

  • A Clydesdale Runs But Pigs Do Not Fly

The regulars were out of commission.  For today, Whitesnake made sure YHC was not solo.  Here is how it went down:

      • DQ
      • Helicopters

    • AMRAP on the pull-up bars
    • Stretching and COT with YHC taking us out

Many thanks to Whitesnake for joining YHC today.  Whitesnake saw the unfathomable.  We may now know it is more likely for a Clydesdale to do a running workout compared to pigs flying.

God is good all of the time!

    COT:

I copied the following from Facebook. Sorry, but I didn’t copy the author’s name. There is a picture of the hands on the Sistine Chapel ceiling that the author is referring to. Unfortunately, I was unable to upload the picture.

“In the creation of Adam, the most famous detail isn’t the contact, but the deliberate gap between the fingers. If you look closely at their hands, God’s index figure is strained and stretched to its absolute limit, reaching out with power and determination. In contrast, Adam’s finger is limp and bent at the last joint. This wasn’t an accident by Michelangelo; it was a profound theological statement on free will. The painting suggests that God is always reaching out, but he will not force the connection. Adam, representing all of humanity, is already alive but appears inert and passive. To bridge that final inch and receive the “divine spark,” Adam must make the conscious effort to straighten his finger. It illustrates that while the divine is always present, it is up to the individual to take the final step towards purpose and enlightenment. Your potential is right in front of you–but you have to reach for it.”

  • “In your name we play, Amen!”

Where rain maybe threatened our good time this morning, none fell upon us on this glorious morning and game of Ultimate Football… except a rain cloud did follow a certain team in the end.

New Rules were applied: 1. A team can attempt a kick from 25yds out through the uprights and earn 2 TDs. 2. A defender who intercepts a pass can free run but also give up his run and throw while running forward. Once pass is caught, he is no longer the free runner. 3. Thrower can not advance forward but can scramble back as many steps as possible and left and right but cannot break the defenders established line. Defender can press upon thrower which moves the line wherever the defender moves to.

Team Captains Da Bear & Cookie picked formidable teams.

Cookie Monsters = Cookie, Crabby, Rudy, Pad Thai, Matlock.

Da Bears 85 Team = Da Bear, Fandango, Warby, Festivus, Hei Hei

The stage was set and highlights were flowing.

    • Da Bears 85 shot to a commanding lead 3 -0. Cookie Monsters fought back to even it 3-3.
    • Da Bear made some awesome catches, an almost pick 6 with burning Rudy on the outside but the leaping leprechaun got him barely with two sweaty hands and a frightened heart that said “I’m glad I wasn’t a penny on Da Bear train tracks!”
    • Rudy had some deep ball catches that solidified why he is a solid pick. This elusive SOB was leaving DeLorean fire tracks all over the field… his routes looked like Ray Charles taking a piss in the snow spelling his name.
    • Festivus strategized perfectly on his offense and defense to be the biggest threat out there on the field. Swatting down passes and catching some hot streaking passes.
    • Warby was unstoppable in his game play. The man was open every time. The man was reliable every time. The man… was THE MAN out there.
    • Matlock, Cookie, and Fandango were good game managers and moved the ball well with the precision of surgeons cutting up their patients.
    • Hei Hei with the BALL RIPPING grip out of Rudy’s small, elfish hands that made him the reason we call him “G.I. Joe” and “Army Strong”… Strong enough to earn that ball from Rudy.
    • Pad Thai was way too quick and elusive.. always slipping coverage and being open and using his golden arm to move his team down the field.
    • Crabgrass, even though he was harnessing his Mahomes from the Tampa Bay Super Bowl Loss and Eagles Super Bowl Loss, was able to do stuff that still had our defense confused and off balance. Picking his targets and using the scramble video game mode to find his footing to launch. Sometimes heroes bleed … Sometimes heroes live long enough to become the villain… Sometimes heroes need to start with “the man in the mirror, asking him to change his ways, no message could have been clearer, if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change… It’s gonna feel real good, shamone!”

Today was a beautiful day for a game made for boys where we as men showed up and relived our backyards heroics.

COT: We still pray for OHES nurse.

“In your name we play, Amen”

  • Summer Tour heads to Tomato Run/Ruck

Eleven ruckers and runners, some travelling north and south, converged in the parking lot of the Rutland clubhouse for a little exercise on this Thursday morning. The 6 ruckers rucked somewhere. The 5 runners took the traditional route into Cool Spring Forest, Knollwood, and the small and big loops in Cool Spring West. Upon returning to the AO, they were at about 4.9 miles. This route was close but slightly different from the 3 routes that YHC had posted on Slack the previous night.

COT: Numberarama, Name-O-Rama, Announcements, BAM! took us out.

    NMS:

It was great having a large group of ruckers and runners out this morning even with several of the regular ruckers on vacation. With all of them in attendance, we could have been close to 15.

Great having Shinnecock from F3 Blue Ridge join us today. We discussed his time as a student in Prince Edward Island along with running and other topics.

This is also the last time that Hash will join us for at least several years. He will be off to Germany with the Air Force on Monday. Hope all goes well with you. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you.

While YHC was running with his daughter on Sunday in the city, he observed how no passing runners or walkers were making eye contact with those passing and not saying “good morning”, “hello” or anything. YHC grew up in this area. One thing he always enjoyed about it was Richmonders greeted strangers. It’s clear that something has changed. YHC does understand that Sunday it was hot and humid. People might have been focusing on their run, had noise counseling headphones, and other excuses. YHC did greet others going by and hopes it spreads.

Thank you to Handshake and Senor Frog for travelling this morning. YHC hopes to travel to see you guys soon.

    Gotta Run!
