All of this 4-4-1968…recognition of the day Dr. MLK Jr was assassinated.

  • Going Stag

Stag and Machismo showed up for what turned out to be a burner of a Bon Iron even without the coffee. After confirming that the circling van was indeed not a late pax member but rather a Bus mechanic, 2 H.I.M.s checked out what they had under the hood for the best 45 min. Sat. A.O. in Richmond.

    The Moleskin

I am Machismo. Machismo-I-Am. And I like this AO, yes I do, man!

I like it on a sleepless night, After movies late by flicker-light. I do not care if I am tired, For this AO, I am quite fired!

I like it when the clouds are gray, I like it on a rainy day! I like it when the ground is white, With snow and sleet—a chilly sight!

I would do it with a crew of two, I did it, Stag, with me and you! Though I would lead the many or few, Today just us was quite enough, too! I do not mind the number there, We led the work with vigor and care.

It’s hard to start a spot so new, But Machismo knows just what to do. It’s a reward, a joy, a win, To see the brothers all dive in!

In Richmond, VA, we take our stand, The finest AO in the land! From 6:00 to 6:45, you’ll see, This is exactly where I want to be!

I do so like this AO, man! Thank you! Thank you, Machismo-I-Am

Prayers for time with family and following the path God has before us. Happy Easter to all. Look forward to when spring break is over, but it’s getting into time to put the seat covers on.

  • Return of BLIMP

Original plan this morning was for Mudslide Gauntlet 2.0(a much more intense and insane version of the gauntlet Crabgrass sets up). I wasn’t sure with this week being Spring Break, how many would show(it turned out a good hard 9(no pun intended)came out with this being my second led Q in the past 6 days(i need to lead more will do as the warmer months roll in). Lets break things down…….

A good WARMARAMMA(SSHs, Dead Man Hangs with elephant twist, Ukrainian Soldiers, Apple Pickers, LBCs and a promise of a little broga afterwards started off. I wanted to get away from the hill(not knowing that where we went between people going to work plus Amazon flex drivers flying to make the early morning deliveries would be in mass. BLIMPS(one of the first times I did it was with Florence. It’s one that normally you stack yet today there’s was no way(I would need 60 minutes for the stack plus broga). Instead, BLIMPS with a build a beast kicker: 5 burpees per spot, 10 lunges per side, 16 Imperial Walkers, 20 Merkins, 25 Plank Jacks, 30 squats). A couple of mini breaks added in due to the humidity(20 counts), then back to the flag for 3 minutes of broga(promise next time 7-10) numbers, announcements and prayer led by YHC to close things out.

Yesterday I was over at Forest Hill Park(great place to train all around for running or overall fitness). I am trying to learn plus improve and get better all around. I have added some meditation to my routine(helps with calming the mind). Can I get a little faster(sure once i thought no way) i am getting better at pacing of training, start off easy then little by little build up the intensity. The next time at Satan’s….we will do the gauntlet(it will be “fun”). I will be at dogpile in the morning, see you there

  • Robert Bobla…

A determined dozen showed up to run/walk among Mary’s outer regions. Good to see some old friends.

5’s take left on Maple from Patterson.

6’s take left on St Christopher’s from Patterson.

    4.2 mile route
    5.1 mile route
    5.9 mile route

  • Epic Beatdown

A pair of SOJ regulars embraced the quant conditions that awaited us at Betty Weaver Memorial Elementary School for a beatdown that will forever be known as one of the most strenuous and tiring. 15+ miles were conquered, mostly up hill per YHC calculations. Some stops were taken to lift fallen trees single handed, wrestle escaped tigers and help old ladies across the street. So much was accomplished, it is hard for YHC to recall.

Prayers for Tin Man and his family for a swift recovery. Coffee was enjoyed by all participants with good tales and laughs. Always good catching up with Rosie. Safe travels for those out of town and looking forward to Boberry’s Tribute to the Don next week. Thank you Rosie for showing up and helping lead. Great work today.

  • The Buffapple Route

With a slight nip in the air, 7 slayers of the fart sack embraced the streets of Westhoe and embarked on The Buffapple Route. I’ve found it a little cumbersome to have multiple street names thrown out there before running a route. People can’t remember the way; folks get lost. Posting the route the night before helps immensely, but it takes a little effort. I thought that having a few routes with names would be cool. So, I’ve gotten the pax to run the following route, which really shines when you are 1/2 way up the beast of a road that Buffapple is, about 4 times now. After trying to imprint it on our collective memory bank, I now declare this The Buffapple Route.

I suppose we have a couple other routes with names: Gypsy’s figure 8, the classic bro code run, the out and back (down and back Ridgefield) – but to me, the more named routes the better.

The Buffapple Route: Launch from Godwin HS, L on Pump, L on Falcon Bridge, L on Raintree, R on Ridgefield, L on Cox, L on Brookmont, L on Singing Wood, R on Buffapple, R on Pump, L on Burnside, R on Summer Wood, L on Glen Eagles, L on Old Prescott and back to Godwin HS.

BTTVF. Names. Numbers. Announcements: Please consider taking UpChuck’s service commitment (Site Q for The Bridge) from him. He’s put in some years and it’s time to pass the torch. Mr. Water Bottle has some potential upcoming cross country, as well as international, trips on the horizon. That guy really gets around. Speaking of guys that get around, with Pigskin gone to Norway this week, we’ve had some new War Daddies. Strangely, no one seems psyched when the are bestowed with this honorary title. Prayer Request: Handshake’s family, UpChuck’s friend and Pinto’s niece.

Perfect attendance today at Dunkin for 2nd F. We took a deep dive on what a beast Homer is and how many Asian cultures are superior to ours. And I learned that Pinto likes Skid Row (the band, not homeless encampments – rock on brother!) and that Gypsy’s son is fluent in Japanese (wow!).

Moleskin: The Stoics practiced Memento Mori, or “remember you must die”. Sounds morbid, but to recall this reality, serves to help us live more intentionally, virtuously and without wasting time on trivial matters, in this day, as tomorrow is not promised for any of us. Go get this one fellas!

    Naked Man Moleskin
Small but strong crew this morning – Taziki, Heist, Matlock, and Hermie showed up ready to work. Loved watching the push on those court sprints and the solid effort on the Dora. Great mumblechatter and accountability out there. Thanks for letting me lead, fellas. Always better in the gloom with the brothers.

  • Pork Chop and Applesauce

I guess the pork chop was YHC since the only other pax member was applesauce. Thought about titling this “moon shot” but felt best to wait until the ship launched yesterday actually got to the moon.

It was the usual 70 and sunny so off Applesauce and YHC went. Warmup on the blacktop. Mosey to the picnic benches and one partner was the pacer running to the entrance sidewalk and back while the other partner did dips or incline Merkins, 6 rounds.

Mosey back to blacktop for 4 corners. Round 1: 10 squats, 20 LBCs, 30 Flutters (Ethel Merman style for Saab) and 40 SSHs. Repeat 4 corners with same exercises but compounding the second time.

Mosey to front of school on Grove for a curb crawl – bear crawl one way, crawl bear back doing incline merkins or decline merkins up to 5 then back down. Finished up at the Pavilion with some pole smokers and several minutes of Mary (APDs, WWIIs, box cutters and American hammers).

Great start to the day. Thanks for all the pax prayers for family members lately!
