30 minute trail run prior to Rock N Roll

The Growruck gang converged for another Rock&Ruck CSAUP with Sandy making an even 10 heavy weights for gloom glory. The PAX started with a wide loop detour around the AO to observe the Latina Market getting set up (oh goody, they’ve got a coffee truck!). Sandy was passed around the PAX like the good little hoebag she is, and there were a couple stops to stretch. Halfway through our time, the PAX were directed to remove their rucks and carry them in some other manner – baby cradle, over head, single shoulder, etc. Carrying both Sandy and an untethered ruck…

Boberry has had a marathon work week and YHC has been on a hiatus from running since his marathon. We both felt it was time to get a good 5am run in. Unfortunately for Bo, he had to get to work right after. YHC on the other hand, got a nice Ruck in and another epic beat down compliments of Mudslide. As usual, great conversation on the run up Courthouse to Genito, and the neighborhood in that area. YHC got us a little bit lost, but we managed to make our way back with time to do an extra lap…

8 gloom warriors took to the Rockwood trails for a 1 hour ruck training opportunity – today’s challenge were two sandbags, one 50 pounds, the other 60 pounds, which were passed between the PAX every 100-200 yards. For those of us already carrying 50+ pound rucks, we definitely went slower than usual also hefting the Sandies. McRib found us toward the end having enjoyed the surprise blessing of prayerful solitude. I appreciate this perspective – while he could have been disappointed to be unable to find the PAX for most of the hour, he instead embraced the opportunity as a…

You know how you kind of feel weak doing pull-ups? Well we decided to add our weight vests/rucks to the 5am pull-up session… #humbled. 3 HIM’s worked on their 2 rep max for weighted pull-ups with the following circuit. Note – we could not figure out why the Lexicon hasn’t coined something neat for pull-ups… we have Merkins, why not Perkins? I dunno… 5 minute warm-up EMOM – 5 sets 3 perfect pull-ups Plank Position rest V-legged pull-ups (Legs straight in a V perpendicular to body while you pull-up) 10 rotating sets, 1 rep each time Assisted Pull-ups 5 sets,…

Six SOJ studmuffins donned their rucks and embraced the soaking suck as they put in a full hour of Rockwood speed-rucking. Two stops were made to first exhaust the quads with ruck squats, then later Mudslide led the PAX working the upper body through a variety of ruck-holding reps. TClaps to these HIM’s not only embracing the monsoon ruck but then going on to conquer the flesh with a truly challenging Florence beatdown. Getting stronger TOGETHER! ~DTH

The rain did not keep 8 SOJ men off the trails of Rockwood Park. After a few early miles with Big Rig and Boberry the PAX got an intro to YHCs new 50# sandbag and we hit the road taking turns with the bag. Multiple stops for a variety of squats, presses, clean and press, overhead holds, planks and lunges. Everyone seemed to enjoy the extra weight and stops along the way. More of that too come with future training. Big Ruck training next Sunday, 6am at Forest Hill Park. Put it on your calendar and reserve the morning for…

Boberry and Big Rig were out on a run, Broadway then I arrived. Big Rig went to get his miles in, the rest of us strapped up, headed out for a morning ruck. One thing with me: I like speed running I haven’t figured that out but rucking I have it down. The goal was to be under 15 minute/mile(our average for 3.38 miles was 14:27/mile). We felt good the rain and wind was there, yet once you get going don’t notice it. After that a little rest, get ready for boot camp

7 HIM’s satisfied the Morning Wood with a speedy 5K (3.1mi) ruck completed in 49 minutes. Enjoyed the conversations and the push. YHC is leaving for Aruba 😎☀️…see ya! ~DTH Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don’t turn up at all. ~Sam Ewing

Big Rig needed to get to work so he started out on his run(cranking up that training for his race, the rest of us ventured onto the dark trails with the creatures hiding going “the humans are back again with those strange lights”. We are getting a little closer to the time that we get more early sunlight. That will allow us to hit the trails, get used to that type of environment. Overall a good one, all except one stayed for the main workout 3.3 miles today. Ruck tomorrow see Slack have a good Saturday

The morning started early in Big Rig’s world. He was getting his mileage in joined later by Boberry and Hardywood. After a while the ruckers arrived, 6am hit were took off to venture around. Big Rig was joined by State Farm, Posh, and Shaw-Shank during that time while we rucked anywhere from 3.2 to 3.4 miles depending on what you did at the end. Good mumble chatter about climbing and other topics plus with the lights around and the wolf moon you may have presumed there were withers aliens or training for the next mission to get a terrorist on…
